    Dude he covered Workin Man’s Blues during the middle of his set and then closed with Time (Pink Floyd) and transitioned wildflowers and wine into ramblin man. Great set

    The real ones know that SRV would’ve loved Marcus and loved his version of Texas Flood! The world doesn’t need another SRV clone!!! But the real star here is the slide player …. my god that was a masterful piece of playing 🙏

    I love that he isn't just trying to sound like another replica of SRV's tone and phrasing. That's what makes a great guitar player great - doing it his own way without turning it into a different song. And he's got that "edge of going overboard" energy thing to his playing that certainly gets my attention.

    I don't believe anyone plays Stevie like Marcus, but this rendition is insane.
    More akin to hearing Johnny and Edgar Winter cover this song.
    So awesome to hear this, ty!!

    Actually this isn't a Stevie Ray Vaughan song. He covered it. A guy named Larry Davis actually wrote and recorded the song in 1958. It became a blues standard and then SRV went on to cover it. The original version is pretty good too

    • @spacecityshows
      @spacecityshows  22 дня назад +4

      I already addressed this with another commenter. Most people know the SRV version and this was performed on what would have been his 70th birthday. So since Marcus is obviously honoring SRV, and many don't know the original, I put an easy indentifier in the title and then a note to the original in the remarks section below the video. Thanks for your reply and cheers!

    For the record, Larry Davis wrote Texas Flood and SRV took it next-level with his cover.

      Thanks for the clarification. I will update it on Setlist.fm and put a note on this. Since most people aren't familiar with Larry Davis or his version, I will leave the title alone for search and attention purposes. Cheers - SCS

    I asked on another clip if he'd ditched the horns and backing singer mid tour, and it seems he has. I've got a couple of tickets for a UK show next month. I'll have to liaise with the other half to see if she still wants to go now (assuming it's just the 5 piece). It's all sounding a little generic to my ears, nothing wrong with it, but can't see my wife being overjoyed! (She liked the bigger band).
    Great video though, much appreciated.

    I love about 80 percent of this. Tone, amazing as always. Vocals, damn. Love the slide solo. But ... I was expecting an explosive launch into a Marcus solo, and instead he kind of teased and when he *did* let loose pushed it too hard. Still a great cover, but I was not killed dead by the end of it as I had been expecting.

    I always enjoy Marcus King‘s vocals. I think that’s the bright spot for him. He’s still overplays, plays too loud, & too fast. when I think of blues, I don’t typically associate orange amplifiers with it. It’s a completely different sound. Definitely a cool interpretation of the song. I believe as he matures as a musician he’ll adjust his playing to fit the song rather than always playing the same irregardless of what song he’s playing or style of music he chooses to incorporate into his set list. I’m glad to see there’s somebody out there that’s from the new guard that’s keeping the blues alive. There are very few Titans left to carry the flame. 🎉❤

      I was thinking “these guys are playing at the blues” You can tell the drummer has a metal background, he doesn’t swing. As good as the players are, this was like a bad blues open mic night.
      For the record, I’m a big fan of Marcus King.

      MK sounds better than SRV? MK sounds like a local blues bar shredder compared to SRV. You can compare 1 note played by MK to 1 note played by SRV and you instantly hear SRV's note sounds WORLDS better. They are not in the same galaxy, sound-wise.
