Best fitting face mask for wearing with glasses. Hand sewing pattern for a DIY mask handmade from cotton fabric.
This week I collected the best tips for making a well fitting cotton face mask to sew at home with no sewing machine. This pattern fitted best to wear with glasses. I used a cable tie wire to reinforce the nose bridge and make the mask sit flush under glasses. When this mask is worn under the bridge of the glasses it prevents glasses from steaming up!

As I had no printer, I traced the pattern from the computer screen (setting brightness high and tracing round). I used 100% cotton fabric for these face masks. For these masks I have hand sewn them. This did take a long time (roughly 7 hours) for one mask I did start to finish as I did a back stitch to get a tight seam. A simple running stitch would be much faster but will give a looser seam. And I was enjoying the project, especially since time is no obstacle during lockdown!
With rising cases of Corona virus in Scotland, the UK and globally, it's now more common to wear face coverings. It's now recommended to wear a face covering in Scotland. This pattern is easier to stay in place than a scarf for sure!
ALTERNATIVES to cable tie WIRE include pipe cleaners, jewellery wire or a soft garden wire. For finding cable ties, have a search around the TV cables, the WI-FI router cables, or items still in their box.
ALTERNATIVES to ELASTIC include vest top or spaghetti straps, bra elastic, or a simple strip of cotton to tie in a bow.
