In episode 4 of her program Total Recall, Anna Nemzer tackles the topic of the murder of one of the main Russian journalists, Anna Politkovskaya. She was especially inconvenient for Putin and the leader of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov as she not only wrote truthfully about the Second Chechen War but saw it with her own eyes - she always insisted on only reporting on things she personally witnessed. Anna Nemzer explains how this murder not only began the tradition of eliminating political rivals and independent journalists in modern Russia, but how Vladimir Putin's reactionary rhetoric seems to play a vicious game with the audience: claiming that it wasn't expedient for the government to kill Politkovskaya, Nemtsov, or Navalny.

"Kill the meaning of words" what a perfect phrase. I read Anna Politkovskaya's book "Putin's Russia" a year after her murder, at a time when Western leaders were still cosying up to Putin. Thank you for this great presentation.

Great video Anna. An exceptionally strong part of your very powerful and informative Total Recall series, which puts the murder of a great and brave journalist into a wider context.

How many Russians do think like you, I wonder? Thanks for sharing your vision. We need Russia to fight for their freedom so that we can have peace in this world. Keep informing them about the truth.

There are so many examples of Putin's cruelty and utter lack of humanity. I have to shake my head in disgust when the religious right-wing Western politicians express support for that murderer.

This is so much important for us in the West to remind us all what the Putin's wrongdoings😡 were during the time he was still somehow accepted by the West - mainly Germany and France!!! Policy of appeacement for cheaper gas deliveries all the time (Merkel - though I quite liked her - but she should have known better)!!!Thank U very much for doing that! 👍👍👍

I look forward to the bright shinning light of TV Rain each day. Your undying courage is so Russian, stanch, simple stated truth in the face of tyrannical hoodlums and game show propagandists only trying to take Russia back to darker times...rr

"She preserved the true meaning of words." I feel very touched by the truth of these words.
Thank you, Anna - for inspiration for all of us to follow that path.
