  • In this episode of Back in the Garage, I'm working on my 2008 KTM 990 ADV. I show you how to access your factory air filer and how to upgrade the air box to a Rottweiler-style air intake with foam filter. I also delete what is left of the secondary air system. Parts are linked below.

    Very informative video with appropriate detail and why you're doing certain adjustments to the air flow.

    Nice…it looks exactly like Rottweiler too

    I also used the "No Toil" spray filter oil (the RED stuff) and found that it degraded the foam of the ITG filter. Caused it to "crumble" little bits of foam.
    The RED No Toil uses *alcohol* as the solvent, and THAT may be the cause of the problem.
    After replacing the foam filter, I used the GREEN No Toil filter oil (water-based) and I'm hoping the foam element will like it better (time will tell..)

    Any thoughts on Rottweiler vs Triple Clamp Moto airbox? I'm about to tear the 990 apart to adjust the valves, using your excellent video, and seems like a good time to upgrade the airbox as well. TCM is less expensive but on backorder...and I want to get this all done next weekend.

    My concern is that allowing water and dirt to be in direct contact with the linkage/ throttle body. Anything that you thought about?

    • @2WR

      Have to be a LOT of water and dirt to get thru the radiator.

      @@2WR I was thinking about the sides that now are exposed. Not sure it will be an issue over time or if it's just me that worries to much :D

      Lol stop worrying. I’ve been running this setup on my 1290 for tens of thousands of miles with no issues. No issues on the 990 thus far either.

    any mods to the ecu map with this? also, have you considered a 2 into 1 exhaust?

      My map has been tuned and will be updated to further smoothe out a bit of a dead spot around 4500rpm. A retune isn’t necessary. And no, this is a budget bike for me. Bought it cheap and putting minimal amount of money into it.

      @@2WR makes sense. Im following a similar track. My 1190 has the upgrade intake with a dongle to richen slightly. Looking to get more low end grunt on the 990 as well.

    Why do people delete the SAS?

    • @2WR
      @2WR  2 года назад +2

      On some bikes, (like the newer 1090/1190/1290) it opens up under seat storage space and makes accessing the front cylinder for cable checks/adjustments much easier. For all bikes, it eliminates points of failure along with a little weight savings.
