If you ever want to know what a doctor in the hospital is truly like, their temperament and demeanor, how good they are...ask the nurses who work with them. Nurses _ALWAYS_ know, and if they hate a doctor, it's always for a goddamn good reason.
FAAACCCTTTSSS.... I have family members who are nurses are involved in other parts of the medical system. When I tell you these are the people to ask if you are given a new doctor? What to find out about said doctor? They are the go tos.
Agree. I had esophagus cancer 8 years ago & had to have surgery & treatments. I met my Dr. first & liked him, after.my first treatment, I asked the nurses if they liked working with him. Every single one said they loved him!!! He even gave me his personal cell to call if I had any issues!!! This was at Mayo in Scottsdale, AZ by the way.
The three clips for this episode are: "A Jim on the rocks for the Doctor", "A Prescription that Kills", "Sobriety Test in Court". They are all posted on RUclips
Spoiler for anyone who wants to know the ending * * * * * * Auster was winning the trial but the trial broke for lunch and he went out, having 5 or 6 bourbons in 45 minutes. Stone, guessing that he would drink during lunch had him followed by the police and he was able to show that despite being drunk, Auster didn't look drunk. This horrified the jury and proved that he had a drinking problem so they found him guilty. Moral of the episode: Being brilliant doesn't mean you're invincible.
Powerful man, all the accolades and accomplishments gets away with destroying lives because the medical and legal system protects him. Way true to life and 1 of the best episodes ever.

You are pretty strong and sharp to understand that. Most people would view the husband's actions as good or bad but he understood what dragging this out could do to his wife. So, he did an evil thing for her. It certainly doesn't make him heinous but he could barely live with his decision. I feel nothing but sympathy for him.
While this was the first episode of Law and Order's NBC Run (Sept. 13, 1990), I think most of us know that technically, the first episode was "Everybody's Favorite Bagman," which was produced in 1988 as the pilot for CBS, but wasn't aired until the sixth episode during the NBC run.
I own this (first) season and I'm still watching these clips. I just watched this episode the other day, too. That was one heck of an episode to launch a TV series on. 😃

The next part is “Sobriety Test In Court” to those who want to see if he was convicted.
I’ve seen that clip. First time seeing this one and was wondering if this was part of that!
Thank you! Very nice of you!

Stone got lucky. One of the fav cases.

the audacity of him to be sarcastic to the DA when he was actually wrong.
Having a part on Law & Order is still on my bucket list. Perhaps one day. Love binging these :)
Maybe someday you will get part. Who ever you are... I'm rooting for you.
If you ever do, come let us know.
The series is coming back on 2/24

Good thing they buried the pilot in the middle of the season, it was interesting but not nearly as compelling as this episode.
Loved this episode! It made looking into the first season of Law and Order worth it
You know the difference between Auster and a serial killer?
The weapon.
Yikes. They got him, right? Please tell me they nailed the guy, lol...
Yep, quite dramatic closing courtroom scene.
correct, one of the best scenes in early l&o in my opinion
@Backroad Junkie • I agree on your choice of line from this clip. Comparing a doctor to a serial killer is really brain jarring.
This reminds me of the movie Malice, where a lawsuit involves a doctor who was seen at a bar right before performing emergency surgery.

the arrogance of this man is just baffling.
That doctor Stone and Robinette interviewed, he experienced that arrogance firsthand.
I hope this means the early seasons are coming to Peacock!
Eh I wouldn’t hold out hope they’ve posted early clips on again off again in the past two years since peacock came out and still no seasons before 13
Eh I wouldn't be too sure about that. Only time will tell.

The first episode of a new series has to draw people in, so they want to see more. This did that, and it still works.
I need to see more of the early episodes. Great acting!!!!

Possibly the most worthless line in the entire episode. What did this mean anyways?
Comparing a medical intern to a janitor is insane
The episode had lots of future stars. The father of the victim was in LA Law. And a young Director Vance (Rocky Carroll).
Wow a very young Erick Avari...with hair!

What episode is this ?
The original pilot episode back at the start of season #1.
5:00 even in this scene the actor seems to be playing the character as if he's been boozing.
That can't be Bill Burr is it?
this episode was kinda like if House M.D was realistic
This is false. You can’t watch episodes earlier than season 13 on peacock!
