The original Pilot episode before the show became a reality.
I thought this was lost media
@@hannahmartin9705 No this episode became the 6th ep instead.
The show where you confess and testify
Law and Order was so unpolished back then, and the pilot was the most unpolished of them all, that's why it was so appealing. Hardly recognizable from the later seasons and SVU.
The lack of polish makes the show seem more real, and I love it.
I agree. There was a gritty aspect to it. I hope it goes back to this format instead of the glossy unrealistic format of the more recent SVU or the even more recent OC
You beat me to it. I was going to say the exact same thing. I like the entire series and glad it's going to be back on but the early season are my fav.
It's cool that a lot of people do like the rough around the edges version of L&O from it's inception.
Unpolished not by choice, that was their budget lol And it's only the pilot episode that was this gritty. Given how gentrified Manhattan has become, gritty wouldn't work for it anyway today.
Imagine going from the wife of a councilman to the wife of an abusing psychiatrist
Yup, that’s what I think when I see her too:) that last scene in the elevator, after the trial. Yeesh.
Either way, she played both parts perfectly...
My first thought: Pookie.
😬 that’s the line.. “pookie’s scared”
Poor Pookie!
Old cabs, blue police uniforms, no cell phones, the bulky computer monitors, the gritty look of NYC, it takes me back to the days when New York was affordable and fun (as long as you were street smart.)
“Bulky computer monitors” ah, that reminds me of the old, heavy Macs we used to play some transportation/railroad tycoon game on…
Early 90s....yeah those desktops were mini-tanks
New York was still a could of years away from being affordable and fun. At this point, affordable meant living in a craphole in a not-the-safest-neighborhood.
@@AndyBluebear-fi9om I remember it being far more affordable then. You could get a good studio apartment on 92nd and 2nd avenue for $900.
Sam Watterston was great in his role, but Michael Moriarty was amazing
Isn't Mrs. Halsey also the same actress who was in the pookie episode where her husband abused her and their son?
Yep. That’s her alright. She and her husband caused the death of a pre-schooler (Didi)
The abusive husband was played by David Groh (Joe on the Rhoda series)
The first seasons were so gritty it felt so much better than the shows that are on today
I know what you mean. I watched only part of episode 1 of season 21. The quality of writing has definitely taken a serious nose dive.
The way it was shot too felt more like a movie then a tv show.
This is a comment that is not just stupid but also wrong.
That's the downside to all the hi def, high tech, digital 4k Ultra cameras used today. It glosses and glams everything up so much that it's almost impossible to capture a classic "gritty" aesthetic like directors and cinematographers used to be able to achieve using traditional film cameras. Even worse is the decision to try and compensate for that by using less lighting and darker color palettes. Now when they try and acheive "grit", half the time they only accomplish creating scenes that are just difficult to see.
@@davidhoward4715Granted it’s a broad statement, but that’s their opinion which isn’t necessarily wrong or stupid.
*At **6:43** That is Paul Guilfoyle aka Captain Jim Brass from the ORIGINAL CSI!*
I know, I love him!!
0:41 - The Bagman's wife was also the battered wife of Jacob Lowenstein in the S1 episode "Indifference" and its' sequel "Fixed" 14 years later.
Tight casting was glaring issue in Season 1, but as soon as Season 2 hit I don't think they reused actors for criminals
@@terminator3768 wrong, don't make random guesses and make them out to be facts
It's the little things I find I miss from this time in Law & Order. I really miss the buzzer sound that lets them know they have a call.
Whoever that actor was in the brown jacket, he played the cop in the original CSI.
Jim Brass!!!
@@azizcammioneur7311 Thanks
Paul Guilfoyle being the actor. ☺ Nice to see two worlds collide: CSI and LaO.
@@Indy_21 Yes! My two favorite shows colliding feels surreal.
@@Indy_21 That's Trey Wilson as Tony's attorney. Like Paul Guilfoyle, Wilson was a wonderful character actor.
Is that Paul Guilfoyle aka Lieutenant Jim Brass from CSI??
yes
Captain Jim Brass
Las Vegas Homicide
WHY does Peacock only have Seasons 13-20? With the reboot starting soon, they really need to have ALL of the seasons!
Same with Amazon Prime.
Likely due to lisense rights.
I'm not certain if that'll happen Anne.
100%
movies2watch has all 20 seasons
The last scene made me realize I could never be a District Attorney because I am no good at negotiations.
"Murder 2"
"Man 2, minimum time"
"Man 1"
"Man 2"
"Deal"
you forgot about literally every other part of the job too
Jim Brass looks so young 😂
And has hair! Well more of it.
Same thought 🤣🇹🇹
I sure hope Moriarty’s got a pocketful of mints. All of these tight shots where the actors are right in each other’s faces… so uncomfortable as an actor. Nobody behaves that way in real life unless they’re about to fight or f*ck, certainly not opposing counsel.
Ha ha ha ha
This looks like it was filmed in the 70s.
The 70's! It was made in the 80's. Can you see the cars that they're driving?
@@TMANN-jo1ps haha! I know it was made in the 80s, I'm talking about the quality of the filming.
@@Lefeurouge The first season of Law & Order premiered on NBC on September 13, 1990, and concluded on June 9, 1991.
@@TMANN-jo1ps The first season of Law & Order premiered on NBC on September 13, 1990, and concluded on June 9, 1991.
It is so gritty and fast pace I am reminded of how NY used to be in my days as a boy.
1:00- pretty sure that's the same woman who played the character abusing her 2 young children & being abused by her husband in another episode
yup, that's Carla "Pookie" Lowenstein
Wait is that the captain from CSI?
6:38 Nate from The Negotiator 🤣
Please add 1990-2002 of the original on Peacock. You’ve got SVU and Criminal Intent why not the original?
Legal rights maybe?
@@deborahwalker8042 If they own the show wouldn't they own the rights to all of it?
@@deborahwalker8042 Nah, the old seasons run alot on other networks (BBC America, MeTV, Sundance) and NBC probably makes a nice bit of money from that and don't want to change it.
River Song must have missed the doctor and married another man……. Again.
Wrong actress, but I like your Doctor Who references
The last minute where the camera pans shakily is magnificent
“I’ll have your butt.”
“Kinda sus and not at all intimidating, but don’t threaten me with a good time.”
It’s supposed to say @ss but they changed it to butt. @ss sounds way more intimidating
Robinette doesn't have his high-n-tight yet lol
5:21 Hi Ben, wanna take a step back there buddy? 😂
The manager from Bull Durham!
Hey, that's Detective Jim Brass from the original CSI with long hair.
It's amazing how far film quality has come. Look how fuzzy everything is compared to say season 5 or 6.
This is the pilot episode
It’s not even on Peacock. LAME!!
Sorry hear that.
Now this USA drama at its best!
4:50
Never meet your heroes
She's been in a few of these episodes as different people.
Where can I stream this whole pilot?????
You can't. Heh heh heh.
You CAN'T!
Maybe Paul shouldn't be on this case, he might be a little biased. Perjury is a felony.
Its neat seeing the evolution of tv through the lens of a show that's run for so long.
1:18 The way Ben says, "Her coat size" with a straight face kills me. 😂 Imagine being the wife and the man investigating who shot your husband just asked you about your size of clothing.
Whoa. Jim Brass. Very very interesting. 😅
Great series.
Bad ADR.
After the Gainesville ripper was ARRESTED.
Isn't that the guy that was on The New Adventures of Old Christine?
6:26 - Heh, it's a younger, crooked Jim Brass😉😁.
Kirsy's cash in America
Back when Ofra Haza was still around. Better days.
We need more Lupo and Bernard!
Hey Joe... where is Rosa?!!...#4D
What am I? Carnac?
spoilers?

🥰😍🤩
"the only reason he is still in the force is because he is black" is the single most inaccurate to real life thing said in this entire show.
This was set I believe before racial equality was really cemented in people. In later episodes, you see the big change
You couldn't be more wrong
@@v4mpire723 Yup, I know some people in the NYPD and the punishment hand is light on minority officers, especially if it doesn't make the papers.
@@machinist7230 sure, believe that if you want
@@rsybing it is a fact. qualified white people are rejected while unqualified blacks are promoted. blacks scream racism when they are disciplined and do law suits hence agencies do not discipline them or fire them
