For anyone wanting to learn to play this, practice the d major scale! Lots of the riffs are just variations on it and it's a lot easier to understand if you're super familiar with the scale!!

This is unfortunately kind of bad advice without further instruction. Literally the fourth note of the melody is outside the key of D-major being the minor 7th C. While the song is in D-major it borrows _a lot_ of chords from it's parallel minor key, giving it that bittersweet sound. If you want to learn the song, practicing scales can still be a good idea of course, but in this case you can't rely on just the root major for very long.
I've no Idea on how to play a piano, but this song is a real inspiration to me... Nostalgic and warm.. just like the day when I played the game and cried after Aerith's death.. The anger, the pain and sadness.. It's a precious feeling. After seeing this vid, I decided that I'll learn how to play this song, no matter how long it takes to learn it.. Thanks for the Video! Great Job!

took me 2 years and a month on and off piano to get through the whole song. now all i need is to practice to smooth it ! still worth it!

@Obsidiax Yes, one color is meant to show what each hand plays. But the length (duration) does not say how long the finger must remain on the keys. After you pressed the key, you can remove your hand (and hold the notes down with the pedal).

I don't know where you did your research but developers means the team that built the game: Programmers(as in the engineers who write the code), Animators, Artist, & Writers. They all play a part in developing the game.
This music, makes me remind, of my errors in my life, my aggressiveness attitudes, with my friends, my family... and make's me fix all the problems with big facility :')

i really like this song! i have never heard it before but it is quite moving. thankyou for the upload.
All the green bars are for the right hand, and the blue ones are for the left. When a blue bar is being held down, and a green hits the same note, that just means that you need to quickly let go of the left hand note and play it with your right. Some of the bars you don't need to hold down as long as it does in this. You just need to figure out whatever's easiest. I know that's complicated, but that's the best I could do without showing you. =D

My wife just bought a piano and I am trying to learn this song. I have never played the piano before and I can get to about 0:50. But this is my favorite song thank you for uploading. Eventually I am going to be able to play it all the way through! lol

For some reason this one looks very strange, I have corrected some of it on a newer version. But you are right, it is messy. By the way it doesn't make different sounds when the same key is pressed. It might have a greater volume, but the note is the same.
i don´t know if you did any research, but i´m an engineer (informatics) and i´ve never seen an artist / designer calling himself "developer". also, the development of final fantasy 7 was heavily funded, so it wasn´t just made "from passion".
do your research next time :-)

I remember defeating Sephiroth and watching the final cutscene, then the game cut into this never-ending loop of stars. I sat there for about 15 minutes because I couldn't accept the game was over.

I just spent a thousand dollars on a piano, Synthesia, accessories, and will be spending more on lessons, just so I could play a handful of songs. One of them was this song.
I can't believe people can learn to play songs from videos like these O.o This games so much harder than reading notes on the piano sheet music for me...I really wanna get the learning pack so I can read the sheet music while I play! I LOOOVE that feature! :(

If you learn how a game is made, it isn't as simple as it sounds nor as fun for the devs. Devs would have to make & animate each and every aspect of the game to modern expectations. Let's not forget updating music, sounds, and voices. Oh and programming. . .I feel people have forgotten that the devs are humans trying to show us their passion. There's little room for creative freedom in a remake.
Games made from passion stand the test of time, games made for money last until next year.
@Dependablehero Sounds to me, you haven't plugged your piano in. To fix it connect your digital piano to your pc and configure synthesia to use the piano as an input. OBVIOUSLY you must have figured out something is wrong, when you couldn't use your piano? I'm feeling kind of like the tech support guy, who was trying to help someone without power to start the pc up.....

Well, any piano VSTi sounds better than what windows plays as standard. Try truepianos and pianoteq, but there are many other alternatives you can try.
it shows the note held down because of the pedal, u dont hold fingers there
