A few other things that I want to touch on: The biggest key to my approach in this battle is Tao’s innate skill Saint’s Prayer, which has an English description that reads “While in the active party, allies in battle will recover from ailments when returning to the stock.” However, this doesn’t quite convey the full scope of this ability, which hasn’t been documented in any source that I’ve seen. While it might sound like Tao has to be present when the swap occurs, the skill actually activates after a swap has occurred, but before continuing to the next action. Because of this, Tao gets treated as an active party member even if she was being swapped in and the game recognizes the party member that was swapped out as the target of Saint’s Prayer, even though the two were never in the battle at the same time. Saint’s Prayer also doesn’t activate when Tao herself has an ailment and is swapped out, since she isn’t an active party member when the ability would normally activate. While we likely have no real way of knowing whether or not this function of Saint’s Prayer was intentional or not, I think it’s reasonable either way, although this makes it much more valuable and cooler. Some might chalk this up to a translation mistake, but even if it were intentional, I don’t know if there would be a way of phrasing the ability in a manner that would also reflect this function without making the description undesirably long. In any case, I like that Saint’s Prayer works like this because it gives Tao a very unique niche as a tool when Me Patra or Amrita Showers aren’t readily available, plus the ability to cure ailments without a full press turn action is something that’s never been seen before. Something else that I could have done here over the course of my attempts for this battle was make a greater effort to off Mara with an aggressive Omagatoki: Dance setup, which could have significantly reduced the battle length if I had been fortunate with Mara’s ailment inflictions (side note: from this point forward, I have pledged to refer to the act of terminating demons as “offing” in order to cultivate a slightly more family-friendly environment on this channel, drawing inspiration from the “Off Koga Saburo” Main Quest from SMT IV). However, since I had already featured powerful Omagatoki: Dance + Ice Breath setups with Jack Frost in my recent Khonsu and Vouivre battles, I wanted to take a different approach to offing Mara to better present the characteristics that make this battle unique. While I still used Jack Frost and Omagatoki: Dance to lay into Mara for a good deal of damage here, relying on them less allowed me to exhibit how effective Tao and Saint’s Prayer can be in certain situations and how to deal with Mara’s other threats, plus battles that enable me to use my entire demon stock creatively to make up for their substandard individual performances are generally the ones I enjoy the most. Additionally, I think that most of my viewers understand by this point that I don’t think having longer battles is an issue. Basically, I’m saying that if I had the benefit of a stroke of luck and played my hand right, I could Jack Mara off much more efficiently, but that’s not how I roll. I pride myself on making use of more unconventional methods to satisfy my viewers, so I’d prefer to use the other toys and tricks at my disposal to rub him out.

"Lastly, Mara has the innate skill Fear of Death, which slightly boosts the power of Hell Thrust and Megaton Press and also gives them a slight chance of instakill under Magatsuhi, which I believe can even activate on guarding targets." Guarding reduces ailment and instakill chance by 60%, if I recall correctly. Fear of Death has a 20% instakill rate by default. These two values interact multiplicatively. As a result, a guarding target has a 8% base chance to be finished off by Mara ramming into them, assuming the same amount of Luck and no Hellish/Abyssal Mask in play.
That Saint's Prayer healing trick is really cool, never though it would work that way. I don't want to be on the receiving end of Mara's Hell Thrusts...
*Number of boss battles not impacted by Innate Skills: 12 / 23* Fear of Death's added instakill chance during Omagatoki: Critical could be scary if his turn doesn't get nulled for using Dance of Mara. If he uses Hell Thrust on his second Press Turn, not even Phys Block could stop it from cheesing you out of nowhere.
also crusher onslaught/megaton press is probably the worst skill in the entire game aside from the jirae magatsuhi skill and maybe some other magatsuhi skill i'm forgetting. you know it's bad when even the enemies miss all the time with it
Megaton Press has 260 base power to Hades Blast’s 190. If you’re using it in situations in which you would lose press turns or without Critical Aura, you’re probably using it wrong. For enemies, that base power can often bring them a lot closer to the one-shot threshold, so it doesn’t matter as much if they miss some targets.
@ well i'm pretty much judging it based on the enemies usage of it, also yabusame shot just seems more efficient than crit aura+megaton, aoe in general isn't very good outside of a select few bosses

Lmao I hope you made mara proud in your endeavors haha
Oh ho that’s interesting! I’ll be sure to document that on my innate directory. Great find!
That last paragraph tho 😅

SnooPING AS usual, I see
Ah, hapPINESS is always so much more enjoyable when it's based on the misery of millions!
starting the year off with a bang, i see

Good Job on the lean green pounding machine.

I can see why cironnup was chearing cautiously
Take 2 for an aggressive Omagatoki Dance setup?
LMAO @ Dazai being dead while showing the characters/demons

but yeah in that case it's probably just crusher onslaught that sucks since you don't really need aoe phys in the level 20s-30s
i really do not like the noises mara makes when he attacks
But, he tries so hard...
Or she, in this game I don't remember the gender lol
@@keicamboom9915it’s a he in this game. I think the only games where Mara is female are SJ and Devil Summoner.
I really do not like his Toxic Spray animation
@@J0oBieswdym it's a she in sj? Only now I realize it?
