My friend has a 2010 Corvette convertible. When he bought the car, the tonneau cover was hitting the back window and the latch on the toneau cover was hitting the back window. He got the roof straps replaced and that fixed the tonneau cover from hitting the roof, but now the tonneau cover latch is still hitting the roof. Have you ever seen this problem before and if so, what is the fix. The local Chevrolet dealers Corvette guy doesn't seem to know the solution.

Thanks for asking. Let's assume that the straps have been installed tight enough. This means your friend is still experiencing the same symptoms, but not as severe? This can happen when there is air in the lines going to the main lift cylinders and the roof linkage falls back just a tiny bit once the pump is not pressurizing the main lifts any more but only closing a valve to hold them in place instead. Have your friend check the fluid level in the pump. If it's low, that would already explain it.

The hydraulic system of the C7 is largely similar to that of the C6. At this point (2023), the most common failure is damage to the hoses going to the front latch cylinder. The failure happens most commonly to hose 64, see our location diagram www.tophydraulics.com/diagrams/c7diagram.png. The failure is caused by inadequate hose quality and less than perfect routing, which results in the hoses bursting either from getting stretched or from getting kinked. The same problem exists in the C6, only less pronounced. Top Hydraulics' hoses are superior to the OEM hoses because we make the walls 25% thicker, which makes all the difference for longevity and avoiding kinks. Disconnecting the lines at the cylinder end is done the same way as shown in this video, and disconnecting at the pump end is identical to the way it is done in this C6 video. To reconnect, Top Hydraulics includes the o-rings for both ends, a wire snap ring for the hose connection on the pump end, plus a snap ring installation tool. Now it comes down to routing the new hoses the same way the original ones were routed, which is straightforward if you replace them one by one.

I see now that you placed an order for hoses 63 and 64, thanks! They shipped today, you should receive them in a couple of days. Feel free to reach out directly via email if you run into any problems. For fluid, we recommend Mercedes 0009899103 or Pentosin CHF11S. Both of them mix with your original fluid. Fill the pump to the MAX line on the reservoir, cycle the top and refill as needed. The system is self venting as long as there is enough fluid in the pump. When closing the top for the first time, let go of the button once the top reaches the highest spot, so that compressed air in the system doesn’t accelerate the to_ and smash it into the windshield.

Know it's an old video but my brother's c6 corvette top will not go down you can hear the motor whining but does not move. If you give it some manual assistance you can get it down. Is this the pump going bad?

Check the fluid level in the pump. Unless the fluid level is low in the pump, it would appear to be a weak pump. If the fluid level is low, then the pump is sucking air and you need to find the leak, which would most likely be from one of the cylinders and they need to be rebuilt. If the fluid level on the pump's reservoir is between the MIN and MAX marks, then you should send in the pump to be rebuilt, see www.tophydraulics.com/chevrolet/201-1904-rebuild-upgrade-service-for-corvette-c6-hydraulic-pump.html#/30-core_exchange-send_your_parts_to_top_hydraulics_first. Here is our website's Corvette C6 section: www.tophydraulics.com/59-corvette-c6. On the pump and/or cylinders, you also have the option of getting them from Top Hydraulics' inventory first and later sending back your cores for a refund of the deposit.

My top will go up but will not come down fully in the bucket do you know what may cause this???

Exactly how far will the top open? Rear bow goes up, does the tonneau cover go up all the way? Does the tonneau cover collide with the rear bow? If the top goes into the storage compartment, how far would it still have to go to be down all the way?
