What Made Balatro A Royal Flush of a Game?

Balatro was released on February 20th and hit a million uploads in under a month. 🃏 This indie game is set to be a contender for game of the year ALREADY! So what makes this rogue-like poker game so special? Why have so many fallen in love with it so quickly?
I delve into the logistics and mechanics behind the game as well as the one man developer, LocalThunk. Shrouded in secrecy, he doesn't reveal his true identity. He has no problem going on interviews and sharing his experience and thoughts on the game. From a regular developer, to full time game developer working for himself, he has quite the story.

It's crap. You don't need a good hand at all. You need to repeat rounds till a good "multiplier" joker turns up at the shop. The rest is padding.

That's one way to play it. The multipliers are OP but there's a lot of other jokers and enhancements that have good synergy
