But you guys must also mention that this song is just a cover, it's not him who delivered the song, just the vocals (which are great by the way). The original is by "The Supremes". Know there is are also great artists today who deliver covers of great songs. So if you speak about creativity you can't compare Phil to today's artist based on this cover. Also today there is much more music, and also good music out there, but you have to search for it, it doesn't automatically come to you via radio and tv because FAME nowadays comes with Image or Sex. And rappers can mumble or only say one word an be famous, as long as they know the right people, have the most gangsta attitude or look weird and extraordinary.

I have always enjoyed the original Supremes version, but this is the one that grabbed my heart and had me running to the record store at age 14 to buy the single. I love the key this version is performed in and the video is adorable!

Maybe someone among you will know : at 1:31 while he's singing "thes precious words keep me hanging on", Phil Collins points at the sky.
In the original version, The Supremes sing "these precious words keepS me...", making a grammatical mistake if I'm right (I'm French).
So maybe a, now deceased, friend of Phil Collins was annoyed by this mistake and was often telling him about that ?
And Phil Collins is making a tribute/homage/salute to his late friend ?

Usually covers don’t do the originals justice, but as a Teen Of The ‘80s and lover of every era of pop music, I love this as much as I love The Supremes’ classic.
I was afraid of the opposite : the original version could be not as good as this one.
But I listened to the The Supremes' version, and I agree with you : I find it as good as this version, it was already very rhythmic and dancing.
I love both versions.
There are certain 80’s songs that give me an overwhelmingly painful and bittersweet sense of nostalgia. This is definitely one of them.
