Keep in mind that some states do have "Stand your ground" laws that negate some of the retreat requirements. Please research your state.

Correct Sean Connelly-Florida is one of those states. Whenever possible, disengage and deescalate. If forced to engage, laws like stand your ground are clear on your right to defend yourself. Always check with a law professional. Thank you for commenting!

Don't say anything to Police without a lawyer after you use a weapon on someone in self defense. Whether it's a gun, bladed weapon, bludgeoning weapon, etc.

I believe that a more accurate description of the cane would be "Less than lethal" rather than "Non-lethal." Non-Lethal envisions that any application is non-lethal which isn't accurate. It can be lethal however it's intended use isn't.
I'm not a lawyer. I'm merely speaking as a retired LEO and a baton instructor.

We agree and find your comment to be on point. - What you'll run into with ACSD methods and strategies is a departure from "head hunting" and the like, with a mindful respect for law and human life while acknowledging one's right to protect themselves and loved ones. - Thank you for commenting Gus!

The most ‘hostile’ place I go to regularly is Wal-Mart. ANYTHING can happen there. While I have a Weapon Carry License I prefer the cane as there is no hassle to carrying it openly in places that would prohibit a weapon, licensed or not. Also, using a gun carries the chance of causing harm to innocents in the vicinity. Once a bullet leaves the gun it is beyond your control but you are fully responsible; not so with the cane. I also pay a monthly fee to a legal firm that will defend me regardless of what ‘tool’ I use.

*not a lawyer, it is up to you to look into your local laws*
if at all possible deescalate and disengage. But some states have "stand your ground/defend your castle" laws (look into your state) that allows you to stand your ground in a physical altercation, or self-defense means, AS LONG AS YOU DID NOT START OR FUEL THE ALTERCATION.
While some might get carried away in a fight you need to remember measurable use of force. Some court systems will sentence you if you use excessive force even if you were in the right to defend yourself.

Thank you Sir for answering my question in this video. Do you have anyone in the Kentucky area that teaches your cane defense classes?
