Actually in the piccolo your breath last longer than in the flute, and the bigger the instrument is, the less your breath will last. In the tuba you breath the same but you will not be able to play long passages with breathing, as long as I know.
Nicolas Frangiosa But on both picc and flute, a good amount of air that you blow misses the instrument, not being used by the instrument. So you would still need about the same amount of breath as a tuba.
The flute requires MUCH more breath than the tuba. I know, because I play both instruments. The piccolo requires somewhat less air than the flute, so it is about equal to the tuba. Uppish is right about the reason -- most of the air blown into a flute or piccolo misses the instrument, because you blow across the mouthpiece, not into it.
"the bigger the instrument is, the less your breath will last." That makes sense, Unfortunately, it is not right. The flute takes more air than any other instrument, brass or woodwind. That is because you blow across the mouthpiece, not directly into it. When I was in high school band, our teacher tested us on how long we could sustain a tone. We had to be able to sustain a tone for 30 seconds -- the only exception was made for the flautists, who only had to do 20 seconds. I played flute for four years before switching to tuba. When I started practicing for my long tones test on the tuba, I found I could effortlessly sustain a tone for 45 or 50 seconds, way over the 30 seconds I was supposed to make. That was because of the years of practicing the flute.
First, I love this performance; second I love Vivaldi and the Pic' Concerto in C is my all time fave. I've played it on my piccolo (no, I am not near as good as this performer) but I could not believe how physically exhausting it was when I tried to play it on my flute or my oboe!
then again, this person here will have trained for many, many years on conservatory. Would it really be a fair comparison? Not that I don't agree with you that this performance was quite refreshing to many other piccolo performances here on youtube.
Jonathan Martinez My point here is that she played beautifully and the other piccolo players and flautists could benefit from watching her performance. My comment was a positive one. I would gladly oblige playing an excerpt if I had the proper recording equipment, however I don't even own a webcam.
Eline Teune No, but any flautist or piccolo player could benefit from watching/listening to this performance. In music (as in my main study, dance) learning from others is one of the best ways to improve your performance.
Very good performance. Yes, I hear a few mistakes, but considering that she's playing this for an audience of 100+ people, I'm sure that anyone would slip up a few times. But she did a very nice job and she played with a good, sweet tone and vibrato despite all of the pressure.
this is beautful i wanna play this soo bad in fact im gonna go order the music later today cause this is beautiful and my piccolo needs a good song to play , it hasnt been touched very much cause i swtiched to oboe
Harmonica is a easy thing to get a sound out of but I don’t think people realize how it takes longer to actually learn how to play it correctly, now for piccolo which is my instrument is definitely hard to play if you’ve never played flute. Even for some flutists it’s hard because of how small it is and things like that. You also need nice vibrato on the pic or else what I’ve been told is “you’ll just sound like a plain old whistle”
Usually in orchestra, the conductor conducts the beat on the upstroke, to match the bowing of the string instruments. That's why it looks like he's always ahead of them.
It´s such a shame the recording breaks off that early. A very sensitive and utterly intensive interpretation of this concerto. I have been digging through loads of recordings of this today, and had had it been complete, this would have made the top of my list by far.
I've tried the piccolo before. You have to adjust to the hole size because it's smaller than the flute. Also, you have to force your air to get the high pitched sound.
Ahhhhhhh is so dificult and I have a old barroque piccolo with just a key and another old piccolo with 5 keys and is so hard to play the pice.... but not impossible...
that's actually a recorder concerto, not a piccolo concerto. but it's okay because recorder and piccolo players borrow each other's songs all the time.
Con esto se demuestra que el piccolo es un instrumento pequeño, pero al mismo tiempo, vigoroso porque su tono agudo sobresale sobre los demás; es frágil y fuerte, cualidades que lo ubican como el David de los instrumentos.
She is a young player, but wrong trill fingering for the 'c'. The piccolo is a different instrument from the flute, because is conical, pitch-wise, sound production, etc. The scale mapping is whole different, if you play this like in flute you will not have a good intonation. Learn extended fingerings, they will help a lot. My suggestion to you is to have an accomplished technique and sound on flute first, then, the piccolo playing will be more natural.
nice hello for you (nice lady me) and lady four seasens of life me/1- seasen love me2-seasen dream me 3-seasen member me &4-seasen goodby of all my love goodby/& now i want you -- 4 seasen vivaldy of the best simin bari,s
Good performance! But in the first movment the breath is not perfect and in second movment the piccolo is too forte!!The difficult in the secon movment for me is the dinamic piano.
Her music plus her dress is beautiful.
isn't it weird how one of the biggest instruments (tuba) and one of the smallest (piccolo) both require the same amount of breath?
cause for flute and picc, 75-90% of the air misses the instrument
Actually in the piccolo your breath last longer than in the flute, and the bigger the instrument is, the less your breath will last. In the tuba you breath the same but you will not be able to play long passages with breathing, as long as I know.

It is really lovely to listen to, and as Annette says her dress is beautiful.

Okay, THAT'S how you play the piccolo. All the amateurs here on RUclips posting their vids need to watch this.
then again, this person here will have trained for many, many years on conservatory. Would it really be a fair comparison? Not that I don't agree with you that this performance was quite refreshing to many other piccolo performances here on youtube.
Lauren, I'd be delighted to see an enlightening performance of yours playing this very same concerto if you would so kindly oblige.
Jonathan Martinez Being able or unable to perform something doesn't mean that the one can or cannot judge the performance.
Jonathan Martinez My point here is that she played beautifully and the other piccolo players and flautists could benefit from watching her performance. My comment was a positive one. I would gladly oblige playing an excerpt if I had the proper recording equipment, however I don't even own a webcam.

Vilken talang. Perfekt och så vackert!
Very nice ! Thank you !! ♥️👌👏
Outstanding job!
the girl is amazing !!
I'm just impressed she had enough air left after wearing such a fitting albeit nice dress.
Very good performance. Yes, I hear a few mistakes, but considering that she's playing this for an audience of 100+ people, I'm sure that anyone would slip up a few times. But she did a very nice job and she played with a good, sweet tone and vibrato despite all of the pressure.
So beautiful !!
WOW
1Q84을 통해서 알게 된 곡인데 너무나 귀엽고 아름답네요.

this is beautful i wanna play this soo bad in fact im gonna go order the music later today cause this is beautiful and my piccolo needs a good song to play , it hasnt been touched very much cause i swtiched to oboe
Perfect
That's my solo for UIL. Here we go
OMG !!! I play Harmonica and it's so easy too play. Piccolo is likes so difficult
+Fraser Lasnier Renaud 3 year olds can play some harmomica with some proficiency
not really but its easy like that for me cause I play the flute😂 and they are the same notes and fingering
Harmonica is a easy thing to get a sound out of but I don’t think people realize how it takes longer to actually learn how to play it correctly, now for piccolo which is my instrument is definitely hard to play if you’ve never played flute. Am I the only one here who is really bothered by the fact that the conductor conducts in a much faster tempo than what the strings actually play?
Usually in orchestra, the conductor conducts the beat on the upstroke, to match the bowing of the string instruments. That's why it looks like he's always ahead of them.
i thought this was written as a recorder concerto
Bellissimo
It´s such a shame the recording breaks off that early. A very sensitive and utterly intensive interpretation of this concerto. I have been digging through loads of recordings of this today, and had had it been complete, this would have made the top of my list by far.
theirs a second part to the video to continue the piece in case you didn't know(:
👏👏👏
Fascinated by that harpsichord part during the solo.
o my god he does!!!!!!!
On my sheet it says "Concerto for flautino" and flautino refers to sopranino as well as to piccolo, right?
I've tried the piccolo before. You have to adjust to the hole size because it's smaller than the flute. Also, you have to force your air to get the high pitched sound.
yeah, the piccolo is REALLY HARD TO PLAY!!
I'm just trying to keep it real! Y'all making her sound like she's god's gift to the piccolo!!!
鳥の囀りみたい
PERFECT LADY! :)

Am I the only one hearing some descending violin ? Btw the piccolo is amazing !
Right on brother! lol
what is up with that piano
this music is for sopranino recorder not for piccolo...it's so much better on the recorder
blokflotnbrass actually it's a famous piccolo solo. It's for both but in my opinion it's more known as a piccolo solo.
這是什麼曲子

Underbart eller hur?
The Conductor looks like benjamin franklin
Basically, every serious flute player.

not steady air speed and column of air
They could have differant music then you might have!

Vivaldi has forgotten that humans need to breathe...
🤣🤣🤣
no, he has written this for the recorder which needs much less air...
Good performance! But in the first movment the breath is not perfect and in second movment the piccolo is too forte!!The difficult in the secon movment for me is the dinamic piano.
