11:50-12:04. Words that EVERY lead guitarist show live by. Music has to come full circle. A band as a whole should complement itself throughout the song, intro/verses/chorus/bridge/solo's, the whole thing. That's one of the biggest things in my opinion that makes Marty one of the greatest ever. He GETS it. He knows how to make the lead sing with the song versus fighting for a spot for it just sit there. Definitely without a doubt my favorite lead guitarist!
Marty's work in Megadeth was the biggest eye opener for me, and still is to this day. I call him the Metal Stevie Ray Vaughan. Because he plays with so much emotion, technical skill, power, and attitude where I instantly know it's Marty playing. His playing is so recognizable, and he is, without a doubt, one of my biggest influences as a lead guitar player.
@ Scales and licks are only a sure, Kirk Hammett may be closer in terms of scales and licks, but anyone can easily hear that the attitude of Marty and SRV is much closer. Both Marty and SRV pick HARD, both have crazy, wide vibrato, and such. Scales and licks are really the only thing separating them, honestly, but the attitude and the way the licks are played is much closer. Marty's attitude and the WAY he plays, is what makes him my second favorite guitar player of all time, right behind Steve Vai.

I think Marty's description of Metallica doing a ballad and him wanting to transfer that sound to a megadeath record is the problem with Risk as an album. Although Metallica and megadeath are similar bands, part of me thinks that Dave always intended megadeath to be the anti-Metallica of sorts. Meaning that when Metallica went soft or poppy then that would have been megadeath's turn to be even heavier than before.
yeah but Metallica’s ability to write great ballads is the reason why they’re the biggest out of the big four and why they’re ultimately better songwriters than Megadeth

@@goodfella2400 for me he looks like he is still in his 30s
Samin Ahmed you’re pretty generous. I’d say he looks good for his age but still around 50. In the ‘90s he looked like he was 30. Either way, good to see a rocker take care of himself since so many do not.
@@goodfella2400 yeah right , dave mustaine looks so much older than Marty , but actually he is only 1 year older .
What a very classy and smart guy. I'm impressed.
I know a girl that looks like Marty Friedman. I'm not saying Rachel looks like a dude as much as Marty looks like a pretty Jewish girl.
Great interview as always! And Marty you are so right about giving permission to "shredding" in your solos, there always got to be a reason to that in that particular context . Other than that: I really respect your great bending style in your music , no doubt you are one of my greatest inspiration!
Next up try to get James Lars or Kirk
Or Robert.
@Stallion Duck lmao
With Lars,takes 1 hour.
Nah he’d speed it up and slow it down😂
I love his solo albuns!!!
Introduction and True Obsessions are my favorite ones.
Superb.! Now it's time for John Petrucci from Dream Theater or Phil Sgrosso from As I Lay Dying . I wish you guys could have a session with one of my favorite OLI HERBERT when he was alive💔
Marty is soo cool man..
Thank you loudwire, this Is a happy surprise
A very wholesome interview
I think Marty's description of Metallica doing a ballad and him wanting to transfer that sound to a megadeath record is the problem with Risk as an album. Although Metallica and megadeath are similar bands, part of me thinks that Dave always intended megadeath to be the anti-Metallica of sorts. Meaning that when Metallica went soft or poppy then that would have been megadeath's turn to be even heavier than before.
*megadeth
yeah but Metallica’s ability to write great ballads is the reason why they’re the biggest out of the big four and why they’re ultimately better songwriters than Megadeth
Mustaine is a twat
This guy changed my perspective on what music could be. Of course I have to thank my college friend for giving me a copy of his ‘scenes’ CD but its’ never been the same since!
He's great. This interview barely even gets going! Shoulda been an hour long.
One of the greatest and most grounded
You guys know Marty is a genius right?
The right words to describe Marty Friedman are Legend and Virtuoso. Mannn all the way form Cacophony to Megadeth his music is just an inspiration.
Fact or Fiction: *Does Dave Mustaine hate Metallica?*
Yes and no
I don't think he hates them now
Fiction
They all used drugs.
Lars was a douchebag, but kept him instead.
They grew up, and work together now on gigs, anniversaries and making songs for fun.
Answered it for you. Welcome?
@@janacko6011 wasn't the question
I've met marty and his band in 2008. Damn, he doesnt get old
Marty Friedman seems to be a down to Earth type of guy! For Dave Mustaine to say that his current guitarist is his Best ever guitarist for Megadeth doesn't seem fair to Marty!
Kiko is a pretty awesome guitarist though. But let's be honest, he's obviously influenced by Marty.
Marty will always be in my top 5 guitarists. Great guy too.
Glad Marty evolved past Megadeth, his solo albums are much more interesting.
Well I love the music you make marty. You are an unbelievable musician, and a massive influence on my playing. Along with many, many, many other people.
Next time Jeff Loomis please🤘
Great to see Marty is alive and well :-) He is such a laid back dude :-) ROCK ON!!!!!!!
