  • Snap crackle pop. Here is another of McKinney's six Whelen 4008 sirens. This is siren #16 in the system. I met up with WhammyP-50 who recorded this as well.
    This siren has received a front panel upgrade as well as a replacement cover for the speaker drivers which had been missing. However, loud intermittent popping could be heard from one or more speaker drivers during the test. This siren was still very loud up-close and had good voice clarity.

    That's the fastest rotating 4008 I've seen.

    The popping sound you hear is fro the controller itself. All of McKinney's 2810s and older 4008's do it too since they have the same controller. They originally had ESC-864 panels. For some reason the newer logic boards don't sound quite like the older ones. I guess the old ones natively generated the tone since that is what they were developed on that platform, where the new ones have custom tones to fill in. These 2030 boards pop randomly and have an uneven warble effect, while the 2020s, from what I've heard in the videos online, have a gargling sound to them when they make the tone.

      DJ2226 Interesting, I never imagined the controller would be the problem. It seems like both Plano and McKinney have been plagued with this issue.

      I think it might be the drivers popping

    I don't think I've seen anyone test in "Best Possible Alert" mode or what ever it's called.

      Adam Carter I'll try to make it back out to see one of the 2910s. However my classes will be starting soon so it may not be as early as September.

    I originally thought Best Possible Protection tone was a European-Only tone, but I guess it's also exclusive to McKinney, Texas. Cool!

    This one, I have a theory that they either swapped the controls with an older one, or they specially made the 2030 to sound a 2020 fast BPP.

      WhammyP-50 I'm pretty sure this one has a 2030. It sounds just like the Evans Middle School siren after it's controller was updated.

      TboltTX1 exactly!

    • @whammyp50
      @whammyp50 7 лет назад

      Hmm... I was thinking the 2020 was the fast one , and the 2030 was the slow one. Since most older sirens do the fast, I was thinking it was the 2020 that does the fast, since the 2020 was made before the 2030, and since many newer sirens do slower, I was thinking they had 2030's. I guess it's the other way around though.

      WhammyP-50 my theory is they did that because they would only have to replace one item per siren site unless of large wind or other things. The old heads would break pretty soon while the controller would survive lets say 2 sirens before something goes wrong and vise versa with a new siren and would only have to replace the controller if it happened to break.
