Good to see Matt there as well, as you are all getting the big mean green machine taken care of and back to working order. taken it you replaced the Hydraulics as well?? wondering how Jerry is gonna take to the extra controls..??Like the idea of the marking on the digger, and thinking engraving is the best way to go..on the chair just put on differtent colored zip ties on it!

Hey Mike should you install gusset plates to help strengthen those welds, probably set the gusset plates on a slight angle to keep dirt from building up on the gusset plates which will cause
rust issues, you guys did an awesome job engineering that plow & putting it together, and seeing how well it put pipe in the ground, I sooo enjoy your videos, keep them coming thanks Mike

Instead of using velcro on the joystick...
Step 1.) unscrew the bottom plate of the joystick.
Step 2.) check for clearance issues to install 2 or 3 small bolts*. (I'm thinking a #6-32 nut and bolt combo sold in most stores).
Step 3.) drill 2 - 3 small holes in the joystick plate and metal plate, so that they line up.
Step 4.) insert 2 - 3 small bolts pointing downwards in the joystick plate.
Step 5.) reattach the bottom joystick plate with the screws you removed in step 1.
Step 6.) run the bolts through your plate with holes and tighten down with nuts, washers, and split washers.
*(Note - machine screws, bolts, etc.. Also- use stainless if used in a wet area.)

    Solution to marking depth on back side of plow;
    1) grind a horizontal line 1/8” wide and deep enough that paint in groove won’t wear off
    2) grind a slanting line from left edge of 2’ lint to right side of 3’ line. Repeat this between all horizontal lines
    3) grind a hash mark on slant lines where it is 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4 away from left edge
    4) paint horizontal lines and slanting line from 2’ line and 3’ line bright red, repeat with different color for other lines
When plowing, if ground level crosses slanting line at the 1/4 from left side of red line, plow is approximately 2’ 3” deep. If ground level crosses red slanting line 1/2 way from left side of plow, plow is 2’ 6” deep. If ground level crosses red slanting line 3/4 way from left edge, plow is 2’ 9” deep.
Hope this solves your depth indicator issue.

Looks good and user friendly. The nice thing about paint is not only does it look good, it's also easier to spot cracks. Nothing is indestructible, sooner or later things will break. Thats life. Could you use the chain as a "measuring tape" when the paint lines wear off? Keep smilin.

  • @DANIELVINZANT

I agree with Aaron, the mager parts need to be stick rod, Being an oilfield field exray welder of 35 years. Depends on the structure connection, some can Be squirted with wire. Others most definitely needs to be stick rod or dual shield. I would say you need horizontal gusset at the bottom of where the cracks were. For sideload force when plowing in a curve. FYI.

For Matts measurement idea on the back if the ripper, you could always paint the 1 foot block between the 2&3 and the 4&5 a different colour. Either black so its not too obvious or go full HiVis yellow/Orange so that way you know the bit where the 2 colours meet is the foot marker. The paint seems to be holding up well on the back of the ripper so it should stay good for a while.

I was having trouble welding my clamshell bucket together and making it stay. My friend who works for a large welding company told me to get rods that were rated as high as my welder could handle. He made me weld it three times, one down either side and one in the middle. He said it is the strength of the metal in the rod that does the actual holding because I doubt that you can heat that metal hot enough to make it flow from one metal to the other like you can with smaller metal. Turn the heat all the way up as if you are welding railroad tracks and get the strongest rods you can. Now, on a lighter note, I told you previously where it was going to break, and it did. It gives me no comfort to be right! You are underestimating the extreme stress that the plow has on it. That huge plate that you have at the top, put another plate just like it on the bottom!
