    Good introductory video. This would have helped me quite a bit when I started. I use Garage Band on my iPad with a Focus Rite IDock (discontinued). All of my albums (see my channel) have been made this way and mastered on Bias Fx Final Touch, never leaving my iPad. I’m using a Line 6 Helix Floor LT and couldn’t ask for more. I like how straightforward GarageBand is and having some limitations keeps me focused on the song instead of all the plugins and other toys. I will say, GarageBand has THE BEST keyboards I’ve ever come across. Doing ambient guitar based instrumental music makes it super important to have these awesome keyboard available. I also have a metal side project that GB is more than enough for. I still have yet to find an amp sim quite like the Brownstone (with gain maxed and the OD pedal engaged) in the Helix or in Bias Fx. It’s the only one I still use in GB but the other models have their strengths too. My Uncle Michael Metal Vol. 1 uses that amp almost exclusively. After I got the Helix I’ve moved on but I need to revisit GarageBand’s amps.
    Thanks again!

    I just learn the proper way to set my gain for both of my mics the problem I have is with boosting the volume and the right volume to set it when exporting because it sounds way lower when it's exported

      Make sure you have the auto normalise option UN-CHECKED in the GarageBand preferences menu.

    I’m having trouble with the audio/vocals. GarageBand isn’t picking up the high notes when I sing through my SM7B mic, which is connected to my focusrite and cloudlifer. Haven’t had trouble with it before. Tried everything. Any idea? Thanks 🙏🏼

    Hi Patrick, any insights on how to get the best from Garageband's fairly rudimentary noise gate? I always have difficulty suppressing unwanted noise from my electric guitar, and have tried applying different noise gate settings, but haven't been able to eliminate the audibly obvious cut-off thresholds. Would a better strategy be to DI as clean a tone as possible (via my Scarlett Solo) and then add any overdrive or other effects afterwards? Thanks for the amazingly helpful videos!

    • @TheGaragebandGuide

      The built in noise gate is a bit pants really. Doesn’t give you any kind of fine control. Try this free guitar specific gate by Nembrini Audio: www.nembriniaudio.com/products/analog-rack-noise-gate

    Great video. I have a problem I can't find an answer for. I'm using two USB mics (audio technica AT2005usb). My recording level is "greyed out" and I can't move it for either mic. The recording level is way too low, even if I have my mouth literally touching the mic. I can't move the slider, and it won't allow me to choose (or not choose) the "automatic level control" either. I'm banging my head against a wall trying to figure this out.

    Really good info here. I'm running into a problem where I record a backing track, but then I want to record a live improv into the iphone. The issue is that I have to connect the output to the interface, and then the interface (with the improv instrument plugged in) into the phone. I get feedback every time, because the input is ALL the tracks plus my improv track. (If I record it, all the sounds go into the improv track). Is there a way around this? Do I need to have two interfaces?

    Hi, I am using Mac M2 and Rodes USB type. However, I am never happy with the recording sound quality. I dont know how to fix this issue. The sound wave always looks the same as your video profile picture

    How do I set the levels on iPad? Maybe I’m missing something, but there doesn’t seem to be any adjustments for input levels in GarageBand. The auto level was turned off when I loaded Bias FX3 into GarageBand. I turned the channel volume all the way up and still get very low levels. The input level is always greyed out so can’t use that, which would seem the obvious for level control, but I think that is just for the microphone. Thanks.

    When I record with my HX Stomp my recording levels are very low and I can’t change it in GarageBand. The only way I seem to be able to change it is to modify the output block on the HX. But that in turn will increase output volume as well. Does anyone know of a solution?

    • @TheGaragebandGuide
      @TheGaragebandGuide  2 года назад +1

      Can you adjust the levels on the HX directly?

    • @Htbaa
      @Htbaa 2 года назад

      @@TheGaragebandGuide I can modify the output block, but the default should suffice. This would have to be done for every bank which is cumbersome. Doing so would also require me to turn down the output level for headphones. I could use a jack output and connect it to my audio interface and then it’s all fine. But I lose the USB recording function, also useful for a DI signal (which is also very quiet).

      You can do this globally under your settings. What I wound up doing is selecting it to do auto volume so every level is the same between presets which bypasses the big volume knob. You can also use your amp block’s master volume. RUclips how to change your helix output/volume for more. Or read the manual.

    • @michaelsnydermusic
      @michaelsnydermusic 2 года назад

      One other thing you can do is if you are using a interface then adjust the input gain.

      @@michaelsnydermusic hmm I don't recall seeing a setting like that on the Stomp. I'll have another look.
