@Nat20 Damage Right. They bought the clueless media lie about Ghost in the Shell. In GitS manga, cinema, software, and anime, Major Kusanagi has always been white... or, rather, her "shell" has been while her "ghost" is Japanese. Kusanagi's shell is Caucasian and, thus, the actor would need to be Caucasian to preserve that aspect of the character. The entire point was to show a disconnect between her mental and physical self.
Nat20 Damage and Emmet Turner I was actually talking about the trans role she tried to play and the horrible response she and her manager put out to try and justify it. I know she was picked for that role by the director, so it wasn’t completely her fault but 1) for the director to chose her to play a husky trans man makes no sense and 2) just because other cis people played trans roles in the past doesn’t mean that it was ever ok, but especially since she looks nothing like the real life person the movie was based on. If they wanted name recognition they could have easily cast her in a supporting role more suited for her to play and given a trans actor the chance to make a name for themselves. I couldn’t care less about ghost in the shell since I haven’t seen the anime or the movie.
@@emmettturner9452 exactly. Even just compare the faces of the characters in the anime, because most of the characters look distinctly Asian compared to Major.
Also, the trans person role it doesn't even makes sense for a trans person to actually play. If you want to show someone transitioning, you don't hire an already transitioned person and "de-transition" them or something. PLUS, if you believe that trans men are actually men, then isn't it kinda shitty to say "actually, no, trans men are oppressed and underrepresented women and SJ is taking a job from them"?
And to top it all off, without Scarlett Johansson's star power behind it, that project flopped anyway, so the only thing all the hate towards her did was decrease the amount of LGBT media in the world.
