I thought senior said the bike was from the 90’s but I believe they only used the Hurricane name for 2 years 87 and 88

I've loved these bikes since the hiding ninja commercial. I finally got a 1988 Hurricane 1000 a couple years ago. I love it but I think it has a curse on it, bought it, restored it , crashed it, restored it, dropped it, now its back in the shop. My only problem with it is how heavy it is. It's a beast if it starts to go down.

Killer!! I grew up next door to our local Honda cycle shop, & remember these bikes New.
Decades later, we used a custom Hurricane 600 as the donor for a chopper project..
Said chopped turned out amazing and came to be known as the Hurricane ChopRocket.
Sooo many memories & Sooo much fun! 🤘😎

Ken, You’re always on the money with me and your Honda’s. I have an all black with grey 87 1000 in my collection also. These are the best of both worlds, smooth as silk touring at low RPM, bring it up to 8-10k RPM and it’s an absolute animal.

I bought a new 1987 Honda CBR1000F Hurricane w/the rarer Monza Red/Black color scheme. Had a lot of fun w/that bike. Used to race Friday Nights at Oxford Plains Speedway & Dragway up in Maine. Great times back then.

Love your bike content.. I recently added a 1991 CBR1000F to my collection. It’s in the multi coloured so called, Benetton colours. It’s completely original, with 23k miles.
They are becoming rarer these days, especially in nice original condition. I enjoy just owning it..
Nice video of an under appreciated classic 😊👍🏼

Had one of these. Amazing bikes. Funny that some of the "little" things that bothered me as an OCD type person also appeared here: 1) How the rubber (?) cover for the rearview mirror arm wouldn't mate well with the front fairing and 2) how the rear turn signal arm popped out causing it to not seat properly and flex up. Regardless, super fun bike. It was actually the first street legal production bike that could hit 160mph (or so said Motorcycle Magazine) back in the day. I personally had mine up to 155mph and it just floated. Was like I was in a time warp. Super fun bike.
Got stolen from me and recovered. Was never the same after that since they popped the fuel cap and dented the tank. It would never seal properly and caused the fuel to gunk up requiring regular carb rebuilds. (Yeah...I didn't ride it enough...) Tried FOR EVER to get a new tank but never saw one come on the market. Finally sold it for close to what I paid for it. Great bike!

I have a vf1000r with Yoshi pipes jetted & exhaust. No way that bike is making 135hp at the rear wheel. I would bet everything I own that it doesn't produce over 110. Definitely a piece of history and was a great stepping stone to get to the 800vfr. These are great highway machines and love to sit at 100mph, all day long and twice on Sundays!

They did produce 132hp , pretty sure they have over 110 at wheel, was ripping these large when they came out in 88, went 160mph on one, balls out as fast as it would go down the 401 Highway in Ontario

You would be 100% correct. The Japanese always quote "measured at the crank HP" and like to be generous with that, because HP sells bikes. We ran a Factory Pro EC997 Dyno at the shop i worked at for years, bikes from this era were usually 25-30 hp less than the figure in the advertising brochure.

I had a 87 Honda Hurricane 1000 all stock. I have read they are 130 crank hp and also 135 crank hp. What ever it really is mine hit 119 hp on the dyno.Check out the video and please read the info. In my video it only dynoed 83 rwhp due to dirty carbs and one carb had a worn spring and a split in the rubber diaphram. Took them apart and cleaned them and replaced the carb rubber diaphram( it had a split) and the spring on one of the 4 carbs. Went back to the dyno and she hit 119 rwhp. A buddy of mine bought VFR 800 after owning a CBR 600r for years. Nice bike and great looking. The VFR 800 did not have enough hp ( 110 hp) to outrun my 87 Hurricane 1000. I pulled him everytime by a several bike lengths. We raced many times on the straights and in the curves. This was back around 2014.
Another riding friend had a 2008 Yamaha R6 it was 125hp We both were the same weight but his bike was much lighter than my 1000. I could pull away but it was very slow from him up to 150 mph. But they were very close in HP. The earlier year Yamaha R6s were much slower.
The Honda Hurricane 1000 was a true ass kicker in her day. I sold the bike with 65K on her and she still ran great. Then got a 94 CBR 1000F.

Bro, That is one mint, gorgeous, and killer bike. Always loved the Hurricanes from when they first came out. I would much prefer to ride one of these, with a comfortable riding position, rather than being leaned over the whole time, with my back, on a new sportbike, that's not comfortable enough to take for any long rides.

    Howdy Ken.
Here in the UK it was just simply known as the CBR1000F - I had a Black 1988 model a few years back, paid £600 for it.
The only thing I disliked was the very narrow rear tyre that looked rather silly when you look at the width of the bike.
Thank God Honda got their act together on the 2nd gen model in 1989 where they used a much wider rear tyre that looked more in proportion with the bike.
Apparently you can use the wider rear wheel of the 2nd gen model though you have to modify the rear brake bar to stop it rubbing on the wider tyre.

    • @Joe-mz6dc
      @Joe-mz6dc Год назад

I owned one of them. The narrow tire was purposely on that bike to help it turn.

They don't actually make 135 hp, thats the number the marketing boys came up with, real HP measured at the rear wheel, is in the region of 105-110.
