13: Fear and Desire 12: Killer’s Kiss 11: Spartacus 10: The Killing 9: Full Metal Jacket 8: Eyes Wide Shut 7: Lolita 6: A Clockwork Orange 5: Barry Lyndon 4: Dr. Strangelove 3: Paths of Glory 2: The Shining 1: 2001: A Space Odyssey
Can't argue with this list Bruce 🤔🤩👌 because all his films have something special about them and I can see how a person can alter them around to suit, I think it's a pleasure to watch all his movies every couple of years 🤔🤩🤩👍👍
Barry Lyndon is probably my favourite Kubrick movie. Every scene is like a painting you might see in the National Gallery, and the duel scene towards the end is unbelievably tense! A masterclass in film-making.
Totally agree Joe 😊😊👌👌 it seems like Kubrick must have planned every minute detail of Barry Lyndon, the Duel kind of has you feeling the same feelings as the duelists themselves 😱😱 unbelievably amazing 😊😊👍👍
Oh yea, it's in my top 3 easily. Cinematography the epitome of greatness. Costumes, set design, characters, all gloriously done. I hate idea of double dipping if a 4k is ever released because I bought the Criterion blu ray less than year ago and its quality is fantastic as is. But never say never on a double dip with this one.
@pete49327 the Cinematography is quite amazing on this Pete 👏👏😁😁 I've heard great things about the Criterion release and I can understand you saying that, my release is good but not near as good as the Criterion but I'm totally after the 4k Pete 🤩🤩👍👍
The moment Barry Lyndon concluded I was never the same. But then again, that could be almost all of his films. Every visual being a painting at any moment aside, the pacing and performance of every scene is just masterful. Think of the scene when Ryan O’Neill gets robbed or when he reveals his identity to The Count, or when he beats the crap out of the brat, or when the mother is stacking up all the bills, etc.. Perfection on every level.
@houdinididiit totally agree with you here!! I held off on Barry Lyndon for the longest time as I thought period drama!!??!! 😴 couldn't have been more wrong!! It was the composition and the scenes that drew me in!! The Duel scene at the start and end were 2 sides of the coin!! The second being one of the most intense scenes going, yeah I totally got why people raved about it and everytime I visit a Kubrick film for however many times, I get something fresh out of it!! Just a testament to his abilities I suppose 🤔👏👏😁😁 cheers again for the great message 🤩🤩👍👍
Wow the king that is A Clockwork Orange has been dethroned. I was very surprised to see The Shining at number one. Well not surprising on my end because it's my favourite movie by Stanley Kubrick but I never thought it would ever surpass A Clockwork Orange for yourself John. It's amazing how differently you can feel about certain movies. I think it all depends on how it catches you on the night. A fantastic ranking John
I know Keith!! 😱😱 I didn't think that would happen at all but the power of The Shining came through.....this time 😉😁😁 you're right about maybe it was on that day The Shining just worked better for me? Its funny how this happens abd also that's the joy of movies I suppose 🤔😊😊 cheers again for watching mate 🤩🤩👍👍
Totally enjoyed your re-ranks John. Like you, my ranks are subject to change, usually right after I've watched one fresh after a few years. The only one that has never changed for me over the decades is 2001 at #1. It's funny because a few titles in my top 5 I don't really yearn to watch anytime soon; probably because those I have watched just too many times. But I truly do love them all. I haven't seen Spartacus in probably 10 or 15 years, but I'm starting to warm up for a fresh viewing and eyeing the 4k disc. 1- 2001 2- Dr. Strangelove 3- Barry Lyndon 4- The Shining 5- Clockwork Orange 6- Full Metal Jacket 7- Lolita 8- Eyes Wide Shut 9- Spartacus
Great ranking Pete 👏👏 a lot of it probably has to do with my mood at the time and they will probably alter with different watches that's a great way to be, its funny how you can see or get different experiences with his movies Pete!! That's the mark of his talents I feel 🤔🤔😁😁 honestly get that Spartacus 4k!!! Its unbelievably good!! 🤩🤩👏👏 cheers for sharing your ranking Pete 😊😊👍👍
Nice ranking, still a few we haven’t seen yet like Barry Lyndon and Eyes Wide Shut (holding out for the 4Ks to come out for those to get the full effect). Your top 3 are our favourites too, Kelvin’s is The Shining and mine is A Clockwork Orange but it’s close, they’re all great for different reasons
Cheers Rob, I know what you mean when there is obviously a 4k coming soon-ish for Barry and Eyes and you don't want to watch it before that time 👍👍I will say however that those movies are SO good you will definitely watch them again soon after the first time, I did and I could watch them again next week as well 🤩🤩 The Shining and A Clockwork Orange could easily be my number 1 on any given time but I REALLY enjoyed The Shining this time around!! And thanks once again for giving me the 4k to watch on this viewing guys 🤩🤩🙏🙏
It's funny how your ranking can change over the years John, I am the same on some movies, a prime example is Goodfellas, it was my all time favorite gangster flick closely followed by Casino, now their positions have reversed. Surprised Clockwork came in at number 2, I would have put money on it being your number one but who can argue with The Shining being at the top spot.
I know Gary it's weird how movies can swop around mate 🤔 maybe it's an age or change of mindset that alters movies that are firmly in a certain place in your mind....I honestly would have totally bet everything that A Clockwork Orange would have been top with a bullet but The Shining just came quite unexpectedly from 3rd place and stole the show 😱😱🤩🤩 cheers again Gary 🤩🤩👍👍
@adrianselbst6777 the difference is that with a really good 4k player, disc and TV that is the best available level of experiencing the full spectacle of 4K... and form of steaming takes the quality back somewhat as the stream has to reduce the quality to get it through the devices as it would just freeze all the time, if your happy with the HD link then that's great, just comes down to personal taste Adrian 🤔🤩👍
Delighted to see your reappraisal for the cinematic masterpiece that is SPARTACUS. You began to lose me somewhat by comments made in the previous ranking, but even though you switched it off halfway through just look at the difference it’s made in your eyes having dedicated your full attention to SPARTACUS. Kirk Douglas is arguably the greatest actor to work with Kubrick and why I can’t get enough of PATHS OF GLORY either. That’s why with you being such a fan you must check out this extra special episode of TALES FROM THE CRYPT. I think you’ll get a real kick out of it: ruclips.net/video/7iNLKChzyo0/видео.htmlsi=wwlcWDU5lAmS2EII
Yeah Amicus, I definitely didn't give it the attention it deserved, I did think I would struggle with it but full attention and all that! Yep! Loved it....so glad I gave it another shot and next time I watch his movies I'll look forward to it 🤩🤩 Kirk Douglas was exceptional in his 2 movies with Kubrick....wish he had done more Amicus 🤔👍 I'll take a look at that episode, thanks again buddy 🤩🤩👍👍
Hi John ❤ hope you and the family are well. 👍 The one thing that remains the same with both listings is I'm still filled with bluray envy at that Fear and Desire 😂😂. Like you say they're all fantastic films but Paths of Glory really spoke to me last time i saw it and maybe edges top spot for me followed by Full Metal Jacket and The Shining. With Kubrick i think everyone's list will be different. Oddly enough Clockwork orange would be near the bottom for me. ❤
Hi Roy, yeah all good here, hope all is well with you all as well 🤩🤩 as soon as I get a 4k of Fear and Desire I'm sending you the blu ray, I know it's crazy oop, strange one to happen to 😵💫😵💫🤣 Paths of Glory is totally amazing!! What performances in there!! 👏👏 you got the 4k? Funny that Full Metal Jacket slipped down for me and A Clockwork Orange can divide people for sure Roy!! Cheers again mate 🤩🤩👍👍
@MondoChelloveckMovies paths of glory I have the Eureka bluray like you. I didn't know there was a 4k. There's so many oop now with Eureka. Makes getting the collection 😍 a real challenge. Mate if that one was to make its way here I think 🤔 it faint 😆 🤣 and be certainly sending something in the opposite direction. All the best mate 👍 👌
@roybarratt5609 yeah it's a Kino Lorber 4k Roy 🤩👍I've noticed that Eureka titles seem to go oop more than most companies for some reason 😵💫 haha, it's got your name on it mate 🤩🤩👍👍 couldn't go to a more deserving chap 😁😁👌👌 thanks a lot for watching Roy 🤩🤩👍👍
You certainly did mate 🤩👏 yeah I honestly thought it might go to the bottom but wow!! Really got into it and possibly it could climb higher for sure 🤔🤩🤩👍👍
Good video, John. It's a shame we don't have both cuts of The Shining available on 4K, as I prefer the theatrical version. Scatman Crothers' is great in this, as well.
It's weird how they didn't put both cuts on 4k 😵💫 I do prefer the extended cut myself but they should have put both on for sure! Scatman's chat with Danny is SO good!!👏👏 cheers Nick 🤩🤩👍👍
@Paul-01_jane it was strange it just popping up on ITV 🥴🥴🤩 I had the shorter video version, but once I saw the extra footage I never went back Paul 😁😁👍👍
I think you have to be in a certain frame of mind to watch particular films. I’ve never seen Dr. Strange love, many years ago I recorded it on a VHS tape (you can see how long ago it was,l.o.l) but never did get to watch it.
Yeah absolutely Stephen, I think I've had certain movies in my hands to watch and keep putting them back, you just don't "feel in the mood" for it 🤔🤔 haha that's a long time for Dr Strange mate 😱🤩🤩👍👍
Good point Gerry!! I remember around the time of The Shining, I found out about Stanley Kubrick and it seemed like an eternity for his movies to come out after The Shining!!! Only 2!!! 😱😱 wish he had done more!! Cheers Gerry 🤩🤩👍👍

The bullied soldier in full metal jacket is Vincent D’onofrio, king pin from the daredevil series. He’s a fantastic actor, love everything he does. 👍
Yeah that's him, when he dropped weight and grew his hair I didn't recognise him 🥴 he is a great actor you're right Stephen 🤩🤩👌👌
They’re all masterpieces. They are all #1.
Can't argue with that mate 🤩🤩👌👌

Can’t WAIT for the David Lynch video!
Thanks mate, it'll be a while off yet but I'm excited to do it as there are movies in there I've never watched 🤩🤩👍
I love Eyes Wide Shut so much, definitely my favourite Kubrick film!
On this watch I certainly agree that it's a great movie mate 🤩🤩👍👍
John, 2001 is where the line- See you next Wednesday comes from. Dennis.
I noticed that in the movie Dennis, it's funny how it took on a life of its own 😱🤩🤩👍👍
good stuff, the shining is my fav, i used to watch it endlessly at one point, it's a nice little puzzle to get lost in.
You can get lost in the various analogies of The Shining for sure David 🤔🤩🤩 that's one of the fun parts of watching it I think mate 😁😁👌👌
Thank you John.
No problems Cheekster, thanks for watching 😁😁👍👍

Thanks Sjoerd, has fun revisiting Kubrick's movies again 🤩🤩👍👍

What exactly is the difference between 4K and a really good looking basically HD link I find online for free?
@adrianselbst6777 the difference is that with a really good 4k player, disc and TV that is the best available level of experiencing the full spectacle of 4K... and form of steaming takes the quality back somewhat as the stream has to reduce the quality to get it through the devices as it would just freeze all the time, if your happy with the HD link then that's great, just comes down to personal taste Adrian 🤔🤩👍

🤩🤩👍👍yeah totally amazing and I think its the perfect Kubrick film on this watch Stuart 🤩🤩👏👏
Good rankings John.
Thanks Mark, really enjoyed watching them again mate 😁😁👍👍
I had exactly the same experience as you with Eyes Wide Shut. Did nothing for me on first viewing, loved it the second time. Very odd.
I honestly thought I would watch it one more time and never go back but WOW!! It blew me away Steve!! Funny old game isn't it mate 🤔🤩🤩👍👍
Great video John. Thought 2 was gonna be 1 I must admit ha. Take care
So did I till I watched The Shining this time around Jordan 🥴🤩🤩👍👍
I did say Eyes Wide Shut gets better with each watch, on your first ranking.
It might go even higher at the next viewing, John. 👍🏻

@Paul-01_jane I remember seeing the longer cut on ITV way back and couldn't believe I was seeing things I hadn't seen before Paul 🤯😵💫🤩🤩👍👍
@MondoChelloveckMovies I agree, it's probably one of my favourite scenes in any film, to be honest.
@Paul-01_jane it was strange it just popping up on ITV 🥴🥴🤩 I had the shorter video version, but once I saw the extra footage I never went back Paul 😁😁👍👍
I sometimes prefer the first cut I saw of a movie (you kind of get used to it) 🤔😁😁👍👍

It is almost surprising that Kubrick made as many as 13 feature films. Considering that he only made 5 films during the last 30 years of his lifetime.
Good point Gerry!! I remember around the time of The Shining, I found out about Stanley Kubrick and it seemed like an eternity for his movies to come out after The Shining!!! Only 2!!! 😱😱 wish he had done more!! Cheers Gerry 🤩🤩👍👍
