Barcelona Olympics 1992 official song ....and what a belter it was LOL
Very sad Freddie died a year before the Olympic games.
Best olympic anthem ever...
HOLY COW, that just took my breath away !!! And to the person who disliked this video, YOU HAVE NO SOUL :-(
Jeffery Franklin Sheer Drama
It's not for everyone
@Diane Sikora that really sounds cool, I will look it up
"She was almost overpowering her"--believe me, she was holding back on those high notes. It was very polite of her not to show off but to give him the chance to shine. She knew he wasn't much longer for this world. She was a great lady.
They weren’t singing live, and she wasn’t holding back, trust me.
Barcelona was recorded 4 years before Freddie died so I don’t know how you can say she knew he wasn’t much longer for this world!!
@@cole_b when they did this performance, he had just told her. The song was recorded some time before this performance.
@@cole_b
Freddie told her he wouldn't be there in 92 to sing this with her. She was one of the people he told his illness to. They would be working closely togather and he wanted to make sure she was okay with it. Caballe said he didn't have to tell her but it let her know the type of man he was. Also she knew she was his friend for him to tell her something so personal.
Always has to be one prick this song was mesmerizing and you if course feel need to say something stupid f--k off this woman adored Freddie and vice versa do your dumb attitude means zero
2 Titans, singing together.
And we shall never see their like again.
I can't watch it too often. Just cry every time. Such talent !!! Freddie I miss you so much !! Never be another to match you ! Ever !
This song is (to me) the crowning jewel of Freddie's performances. He is surely missed. Thanks for showing this one... Its not always about Bohemian Rhapsody
Love what you said. Pure magic.
I will say, though... I hadn't listened to this in ages. When I did now, I actually thought several times, _"Ah yes. From the maker(s) of Bohemian Rhapsodie."_ :-)
What can I say, Freddie Mercury is missed. What a performer and voice
Would have loved a duet with Floor Jansen and Freddie... the two greatest marvels...
Freddie was a huge fan of opera and Montserrat and had met her briefly. When Montserrat was asked to record a song for the Barcelona Olympics, she is from Barcelona, she asked Freddie to help and this was the result. They actually ended up making an entire album together. They absolutely adored one another and Montserrat, who passed away in 2018, was utterly devastated when Freddie died.
Just amazing, fulfilling his dream. I keep goosebumps through the whole performance. And Freddie was ill during this time. RIP TO BOTH.
Actually Freddie was concerned his on stage persona would be too much for her. His friend reminded Freddie that she was a opera Diva and he would have to up his game to keep up with her.
And he did splendidly
I didn’t know that story That’s quite funny 😄
@@janeblog1900 I read an interview with Peter Freestone awhile back and it struck me as funny which is probably why I remembered it after all these years. I rewatched Barcelona and you can see them trying to keep up with one another.

Montserrat Caballe is a famous opera singer who sang in most of the most famous opera houses around the world. And Freddie loved opera music and he was a very big fan of hers.
Never heard this before. I actually started clapping. I really thought about a standing ovation. For sure playlist.
OMG I've heard this song hundreds of times and it still sends shivers down my spine
me 2.......
I agree! I am a trained lyric soprano, and the combination of their voices raises the hair on my arms, every time I hear this. Once the two of them realized how well their voices blended, Montserrat asked Freddie if they could do more than one song. She asked how many songs a rock and roll album usually contained, and Freddie answered “about ten,” she said then we will make an album. Freddie wrote or co-wrote all the songs, and the world of music was never the same again!
Freddie wrote this & they did a video for 92 Olympics. ( l don’t think it was this one. They did 2 for this song) Freddie had already passed away. They did an album together. They loved & respected each other. How many rock stars can do Opera ?🔥🔥
Frankly I can't think of any other rock star who could do this.
@@prettybullet9875 Elvis did but not at same range. His voice was lower.
@@AL-jb1mh he wasn't trying to have an operatic voice. The point was neither tried to sing each others style.
Freddie had a demo tape that has the operathic side of freddie that monseratte loved after she listened to it, that's what the start of their collab..and a friendship til the end..Check out mike moran interview, had listened to the demo last year another amazing side of his voice..
This is the one for the 92 Olympic's.
OMG!! Thank you for reacting to this video!! I have never seen it and I'm so impressed with the power and passion of these two awesomely talented individuals. I was brought up to appreciate all types of music and my mother made sure I got a chance to attend an opera as well as a Broadway musical performance here in Boston. I have all types of music in my collection to help me smile and sometimes even cry when things get really almost overwhelming. I'm elderly so my listening years span from Glenn Miller to EXO, LOL!! Amazing performance!! Thank you again.
Montserrat Caballe was one of the greatest opera stars of the 20th century. And Freddie was, of course, one of the greatest popular musicians. Two legends singing together, it's iconic.
I love this video… and I love that he didn’t interrupt the song like 20 times for analysis👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
One of my favorite Freddie Mercury performances. Freddie Mercury singing Opera is something special.
Freddie didn’t sing opera, only Montserrat’s part was opera, it was an opera rock fusion
@@Penddraig7 then you should listen to "exercises in free love" by Freddie. He sure could sing opera.
Jdk Kl I didn’t say he couldn’t and didn’t sing opera ever, I was specifically talking about this song, as clearly stated in my comment which was in response to someone saying he was signing opera in this song
This wasn't opera at all and by no means did Freddie Mercury sing operatically.
Montserrat asked Freddie to write a song about her home town of Barcelona, so he did and this is the song he wrote. They recoded and released it in 1987.
1991 when the plans for the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona were being arranged, Freddie was still alive and the song was going to be used as the theme music to the Olympic, however when Freddie passed away that was replaced, Montserrat did however sing the song live with Freddie’s recordings during the opening ceremony.
This video itself was just a music video, they did both perform it live together with an orchestra in front of a crowd in Ibiza in 1987
Thanks for the information.
@@AnnieC-uq1tq mistakenly? What an absolute load of rubbish! Such a stupid thing to say
I remember hearing this during the Olympics a TON of times! Like going to a commercial break, or in a highlight reel, etc. I LOVED it! It wasn't until recently I realized it was Freddie!
Freddy Mercury was very smart & talented. He didn't stick to just one genre .. his talents surpassed that. Amazing .. ty Bridgette & Ty 👌🏼
Love love love this!! I was raised on queen and Freddie Mercury, and this Olympic theme was the best and still is in my opinion.
What the world lost.....Freddie never reached his full potential. This is one of my favourite Freddie Mercury performances ever. And then, there’s Monserrat Caballé.....
This song was released in 1988,it was later adopted in 1992 for the Olympic Games in Barcelona. It was not specifically written for this event, but knowing Freddie he was thinking ahead!!
Freddie Mercury wrote all the music for the 1992 olympics....she did the harmonies...he died in 1991 ... he didn't get to hear it...... Freddie did a CD of all the "Barcelona" music.....I CRY!
Anything Freddie was associated with is wonderful. What a genius the world lost when he passed away. RIP Freddie.
Freddy was a musical genius!!
Freddy didn't live long enough to perform this at the 1992 Olympics. Boy we really missed out on something.
They had a pure love and respect for each other together now in heaven the heavenly sky's must be rocking Freddie wrote the song for them both it never fails to give me goosebumps
Freddie Mercury always loved Opera and Monsteratt Caballe' was his all time favorite Soprano. In interviews with them both she states at first she thought he was an ok performer and then she said write something. He did and she liked it and they had met in person and decided to do an album together. Freddie wrote this song and they performed this Opera a couple years after Freddie was Diagnosed with HIV. She said that while they were performing and he grabbed her and that she knew that they would never perform together again. This Song was used for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics as their Theme song.
It was beautifully written and executed with grace. Monsteratt passed away 2 years ago and they are probably singing beautiful music with the angels. I suggested this for you to listen to because of your connection with Barcelona but I also knew that you would appreciate how they complimented each other with their voices. There were over lays of his voice but there was also a choir singing with the orchestra. Two Diva's making beautiful music together. Glad you liked it. Bridgett and I have discussed this performance numerous times and thought it would be great for you to react to.
On another note yes Freddie hated his teeth but he also believed that they were what gave him the ability to hit those other ovtives,, and that is why he never had the overbite corrected. It amazes me how people can have something critical to say about music when they haven't taken the time to actually sit and listen to it in its entirety before judging it. Sure Opera is not for everyone and that's fine. But I did notice that after a while everyone was actually enjoying this. So Kudos Bridgett we did good.
For those out there that believe I did this just so Bridgett could get it played you are wrong on so many levels. If you go back the live chat a day or so before this and see where I mentioned it to you in chat and then put it in the comment section that it was originally just a suggestion for you to listen to on your own time. They can follow Bridgett's and my conversation in the comment section.
Thank you Lethal! I've seen a few versions of this song and this particular one absolutely mesmerises me. Nonetheless, this is not the first (and hopefully not the last) time Ty has reacted to a video suggested in the comment sections of reaction videos, so I don't understand how anyone could have taken offense. With that said, thanks again for this incredibly awesome version!!
@@bridgettstephens6927 I was happy to do it. You know Lolly has my heart but Freddie is also up there. Ive always appreciated good music.
@@lethalweapon4052 And now every reaction seems blah in comparison 😣. Ok I adore Freddie but..in another life Freddie and Lolly are yours as long as Tim is mine. Deal?😀👏👏
@@lethalweapon4052 Im sure you saw this but nonetheless it's worth the smile factor just the same ruclips.net/video/sl_4I7vLLc4/видео.html
When you're good, you're good.
This is the official video, it's not from a movie or tv show or anything
When you first started reacting to songs, I bet you never expected you'd be reacting to opera songs! But this one is stunning, two absolutely legendary voices soaring up into the stratosphere! Sadly, Freddie was gone before the Barcelona Olympics occurred.
@ 2:32 You have no idea what you're about to hear. Live. No microphones. This is what I studied in college. Vocal Performance. Mr. Mercury wrote this song.
When I looked this up, it mentioned the name of the person who "made the video" which explains the "no clapping" at the end. So this is not a duet from an opera - but it COULD have been. When he wrote this I think that, like the song Radio Goo Goo which is about the early days of radio, he's touching upon types and sources of music that Queen's everyday fans may not yet have come in contact with. Mercury's voice lends itself to opera but I'm not certain he ever received vocal training, but I'd be surprised if he did not. So far as the harmonies, we've heard this type of tracking before in Queen songs like Bohemian Rhapsody. Thanks for doing this one and thanks to the person who requested it.
Belle Canto is a style of singing that was developed in Italy hundreds of years ago when Opera was Queen of the entertainment world. I've read several articles about Mr. Mercury's overbite, how he didn't want to have it corrected because it might affect his voice, and I think that was wise. It's the bone structure, the shape of the mouth and teeth, and sinus structure, among other physical attributes like lung capacity and chest depth that give our voices their unique sound. It's the reason why people who "look" alike in the face sometimes sound alike in the voice. In Belle Canto, as in all singing, breathing from the diaphragm and breath support is crucial. Shoulders should be relaxed, not all up around your ears and the sound? The sound is to be focused as high as possible, inside, on the soft palette inside the mouth, (which is right behind the nose on your face), That's why, as you watch this video, you may notice that she, and to some extent, he seem to be projecting and directing their voices almost through their eyes. It's difficult to describe how it feels to produce an operatic singing voice, except for the fact that Belle Canto singers land on their "high notes" from above, like a bird instead of forcing the note higher from below and tightening up the shoulders and throat. It's how you continue singing into you elder years without distorting and straining your vocal chords.
This wasn't live. This is the studio version. Every time they performed this(3 times that I know of) they lipsynced. Because he was ill at this point and wasn's sure about his voice live.
@@JustMe-vk4fn Just so no one misunderstands; Freddie Mercury did not write Radio Ga Ga. Roger Taylor wrote that.
Goosebumps. Every time. Love this song x Freddie x we love and miss you x

Now this is a great great collaboration!!!
Freddie wrote this song singing with Montserrat Cabala. The connection together was just sensational. Beautiful. xx
The look on your face was priceless when Freddie started singing
Awe love this. Freddie heard this opera singer and needed to find out who it was. Turns out it was Montserrat. They met and became fast friends and ended up doing this song together. I think this was pre recorded to make a video.
I've been to Barcelona, they play this song in a fountain and lights show, breathtaking.
this could also be a Messi best moments tribute song.
Watch the actual live performance Standing ovation there which lasted forever lol 😂
Monty (as Freddie called her ) passed away recently One of the best opera singers of the time
She became a great friend to him
Rock and opera who’d have thought eh xx
Stay safe everyone 💋
Wow 🥰 simply beautiful ❤️ Freddie Mercury ❤️
You can't go wrong with a little of Freddie or Queen! Thanks for doing this one!
At the time they performed together, he already had AIDS, which makes it even more incredible. She's a great opera singer, and, as I wrote before, they became great friends, and she was one of the people he still wanted to see towards the end of his life. Plus, he worried about kissing her hand and didn't want her to feel he was turning her down, because his carefulness was because of his disease. I read that she was very warm, friendly, and admired him. What a nice combination. Freddie looked thin, you'll notice.
My stepdad was the janitor/caretaker of the very amazing "Wuppertaler Stadthalle" (city hall of the city Wuppertal, Germany) where a lot of of very known classical/opera artist performed.
That's where I saw her performing live, yes it was amazing!, and to meet her afterwards alone in her dressing room.
To cut a long story short: she was making fun and jokes, laughing very very loud all the time and yes: I can confirm! SHE was very warm, had a gently soul, was funny and extremly friendly!
She was an amazing person! I totally understand how Freddie could fall in love with her - as close friends of course.
Absolutely love this video ❤️ Freddy Mercury was a Genius! I had the privilege seeing him live in the mid 80's he will live on forever... Excellent Choice
Every time I hear that "VIVA!" I get goosebumps.....every single time!
In other videos there are actual background singers. There is a video on youtube somewhere with Freddie giving an interview and speaking about this song and their album. He said she came to him and asked him to write songs for them to record together. I swear when he hits the note in "The moment that you stepped into the room you took my breath away!"-that away gets me every time! I would have loved to have seen them at the Barcelona Olympics singing this! Love your videos! :)
I miss Fredie
He was taken from us far too early 🙏
Always get the goosebumps when I hear it
They did a whole album together called 'Barcelona'
OKAY! I'm coming back to this many times. So loved watching/listening with you, and I have several CDs of this and listen to it constantly on RUclips. But your body language didn't require any verbal commentary. It was a stunning experience. Thanks. I'm certain folks have answered your questions so I won't...but Freddie handled his solo collaboration with Montserrat while background done by others.
She is a fabulously well known opera singer. He heard her once and he had to meet her. They became great friends.
The best ever major sports event anthem. Still gives me chills
Freddie wrote the song and when she heard it, she was ecstatic with his voice. Mainly because he sang her own parts of the song, the operatic verse.
Nice reaction and one of his best collaborations.
Two legends, never to be seen again, thankful they left us this legacyThis was LIVE! He wrote this for her. It was used at Barcelona olympics
They are together in the heavens
Listen to the album, also called Barcelona. It is beyond what you expect. Not long ago they re-recorded the music and released a new version of the complete album with a classical orchestra, while the original album mostly featured synths. Personally I liked the original more, though.
Freddie at his typical brilliance..and with the amazing Montserrat Caball' what a great mix..main theme song for the Barcelona Olympic Games 1992..a great song and could easily have been a Queen song..thanks for the reaction ..Keep Strong Keep Safe My Dear Friend
Beautiful, thanks dear for this reaction!!! Hope to see more Queen. I suggest Show must go on or Innuendo. Great lyrics!❤
I remember watching the 92 Olympics in Barcelona, and this was the track played before and after it was on TV. I remember the view of the sunsets on TV from the place they held the diving competition. Magical
I LOVE this song!!!! Probably one of his very, very best. SO...have you heard "A Winter's Tale' by Queen (On the 'made in heaven' album. The main song is crazy good too.). Or 'I was born to love you' ? That man had a one of a kind amazing voice!
What makes it even more special, is Freddie wrote it for Montserrat Caball. After seeing her sing Opera for the first time. She was the one that walked into the room or " on stage" and took his breath away, and if God willing they would meet again and sing together. He was very nervous about singing with her, but he had no need to be. Montserrat couldn't believe how Freddie could move from one register to another with such ease. After this they were very close. I like it because it's almost like rock meeting up with opera, it shouldn't work, bit with these to phenomenal singers...it does😁
You must react to The Golden Boy from the album Barcelona. It is AWESOME!! And, Freddie did not write the songs on the album by himself. Credit must be given to Mike Moran, co-writer and pianist. 💜💕💜 Sending love to Freddie. 🥰
Check out if you please “is this the world we created “ it was recorded in 1985 and the topic is very contemporary.
This was part of the opening ceremonies for the Barcelona Olympics. I believe it's pre-recorded
This was the music video to Barcelona which was released in 1987
The Olympic organisers planned to have Freddie and Montserrat perform it live during the opening ceremony but when Freddie died, Montserrat decided she would go ahead and perform it live but have Freddie’s recordings in tribute to him.
we miss you freddie every day till we meet again
I believe Freddie wrote all the music for Montserrat and himself but she wrote her own lyrics to suit.
As with many of Freddie's performances he double tracked his voice to achieve the flawless harmonies that he was so incredibly good at doing. Beautiful track that still makes my hair stand on end when I hear it.
And so is thank God it's Christmas
Montserrat asked Freddie to write 10 songs for them to sing together. I think theirs an album ‘Bocellona’. Freddie was very proud of this. He loved Opera. He saw her at a concert with his house keeper and loved her.
Boy this is going to be good. 👑
This was the openingssong for the Olympics 1992
I think it was performed at the end of the Barcelona Olympics. At the end of the actual event/song - there are massive fireworks going off.
It was brilliant.
This was the theme for the Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain. He was dead before the games.
OK FOLKS WE KNEW FREDDYS VOICE WAS ON HIGH LEVEL, THIS WOMAN AN ANGEL SINGING FROM HEAVEN!
People. Do your homework. Barcelona Olympics
This was for the Barcelona Olympics.❤️
They made this as a collaboration for an album. The song was written for the 92 olympics. She told Freddie 'we'll play this together for the olympics" and he told her "no, I won't be able to be there". then he told her about his illness. She was one of the few he told. She felt as a treasured friend that he told her.
Go figure Musician .yes you as in RUclipsR xx
I always liked this song but haven't heard it for the longest time.
If anything it improves with age that's pure talent and passion.
Opening games 92 Olympics I think in barcelona
The world is more than the USA. Americans are so in to their own naval. Barcelona is a city in Spain on the European continent. And the song is to this city- an the opera singer is from Barcelona.
I can't answer your question but to me, it sounded like Freddie harmonizing with himself like he did in the beginning of BoRhap. I would guess you were correct!
Lisa Marie has the correct back story, now you have to watch the making of Barcelona..interviews galore.
this was written for the Barcelona Olympics.
It was written for the Olympics by Freddie
The entire CD is amazing.
They sound wonderful together.
Love it! 💖👍 Miss you Freddie Mercury 😢 you were amazing so was Queen 👍💚 a great video 👏
The music was written for the Olympics. He wrote the music and it was performed outdoors in Barceona prior to the Olypics. Please review I Was Born to Love You. Really enjoy watching you.
Freddie I was diagnosed with AIDS about this time and he was so exhausted during the performances and rehearsals. People were wondering why he was so fatigued after rehearsing.
I love this whole cd and I am always amazed at their talent. He thought she had the best voice and worshiped her talent.
For the Olympics held in Barcelona
...
It was for the Olympics.
As someone I am sure already mentioned, Montserrat Caball was a Spanish operatic soprano.
Mmmmmmmm...... Dramatic Soprano - My favorite.
Still miss Freddie ❤❤❤❤
You are not alone😔
I've always liked Queen, rock and roll, and opera. This song, Barcelona, is one of my favorites.
Excellent reaction vid! I especially liked it when you didn't say anything during the performance
Glad you enjoyed!
Freddie wrote this song for their voices to perfectly harmonize in a beautiful opera.
It should have been sung live at the opening of 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Unfortunately, he died in 1991. 😩😭
There’s a video where Freddie sings both her and his parts - it’s insane!
He was a HUGE fan of her and couldn't understand that a star like her would meet with him.
Ty you should react to Under Pressure with Freddie and David Bowie in Acapella. I know you have reacted to the song before, but Freddie’s voice is absolutely AMAZING when you can focus on JUST his voice. You may pull a lot of your hair out in the process. 🤣 Love your reactions ❤️
Wowwwwwww never heard this ! 👍🏻👍🏻 Niceeeee voice but couldn’t do my house cleaning with this lol
This was a video made for this song. Freddie was taken to his first opera, and was so impressed with her that he said he would love to meet her. She was a famous opera singer, and when she heard that the famous rock star wanted to meet her arranged it. She went to his house and they stayed up all night talking and singing. She said when she left at 5am the paparazzi had stories. They became great friends and she asked him to write an album that they could do. He did and this is one of the songs. She was the only person to sing at his funeral.
Actually I'v documented he had "Precious Lord Take My Hand" and "You've Got a Friend" by Aretha Franklin played at the beginning of the funeral and a Verdi aria sung by Montserrat played at the end of the service. His loving Diva was out of the country.
One, two, Freddy's coming for you🤣, great reaction
Freddie was very unwell when he did this song he would end up passing away a little more than three years later
exageration
This was a live concert. The day they met they stayed up talking music & singing until dawn the next morning. It was love at first site for both. I am so glad we have this to remember them by.💕
Thanks for reacting to this. One of my favs of Freddy's. These two sounded so beautiful together.
