    $698 for 100 rides is ridiculous.
    Maybe that needs to be addressed, and then there wouldn’t be a driver shortage.

    • @MJSmithGroup
      @MJSmithGroup 3 года назад +7

      Yep. That's the core problem. The base pay rate these companies offer is so bad, no driver who understands their true expenses and can do math, will drive absent an over the bonus offer being on the table. And even then, only driving enough to clear the bonus.

    • @MJSmithGroup
      @MJSmithGroup 3 года назад +2

      LOL, "keeping" drivers was never part of their business model. Their business models were (are) based on a constant steady "churn" of new drivers from whom they could extract as much value as possible until they quit (too many new drivers are "math" challenged and don't properly understand their true expenses). Now that that steady stream of new drivers seems to have dried up, they have a problem that they don't seem to know how to fix. Simply paying drivers a better base rate, and if necessary raising what they charge riders and/or keeping less for themselves, just doesn't seem to be on the table from their point of view.

    • @johnmcdade1001
      @johnmcdade1001 3 года назад +1

      The exact reason they can't keep drivers is because they are not making a living wage. If we are all pulling in 1k a week, would they be a driver shortage?

    Im going to be very clear per my experience as a driver: If Uber and Lyft actually paid a sustainable wage to its drivers long term, there would NOT be such a shortage of drivers like there is. It’s their fault for failing to provide a reasonable compensation for rides. Even if they offer incentives, drivers will jump the boat as soon as they see it’s not convenient. Can you blame them? No. The cost of living is rising immensely and we will do whatever it takes to keep paying our bills.

    All these new drivers getting PAID. The drivers that have been driving the entire pandemic are like, "....sooooooo, what are we? Chopped liver?" The kids want the pizza for dinner and not the chopped liver, so we're just kinda taking a backseat to what's new on the market.
    Horrible marketing plan, as many of us are purposely NOT driving to create a demand in our areas. Seems that it forces bonuses when they see no one online and a lot of demand increasing. I'll sit home and turn on the app - BAM! I'm sitting in an $11 bonus zone RIGHT on my house. LOL! Airport runs about 8mins away from me and that's easily a $35 ride with the bonus added. Any tips added just make it sweeter.
    Sucks that we gotta do that as older drivers, but experience has taught us not to sell our time for cheap. Enjoy your kids. Enjoy being home with your spouse. Enjoy LIFE - but under NO circumstances do you settle for $9-14/hr during a pandemic when they're charging riders HUGE fees for our services.

    Drove with LYFT for ten days and had this recurring issue. In Atlanta,
    Ga if your vehicle is older than 2014 the app will log you off when
    dropping passengers off at the terminals because the vehicle does
    qualify for airport pickups. Well. when a on a three ride streak this
    will break my streak. it happened four times in four days as I go to the
    airport regularly. After a lengthy chat session with a different rep
    every time in which I had to explain the entire situation over and over I
    had three support reps acknowledge it is an issue on Lyft's end and
    credit me the money. The fourth rep basically said I should stay away
    from the airport since I do not qualify. Hello, what am I supposed to do
    with my rider that is going to the airport? I am finished with LYFT
    since it is barely worth my time with the bonus and certainly not worth
    my time without the bonuses. After gas I averaged around 12 dollars an
    hour in my ten days and 156 rides. Not getting rich here folks. I see
    why LYFT is begging for drivers.

One-off bonuses don't solve that problem. But for whatever reason, simply paying drivers a decent base pay rate ($/per & $/min) just doesn't seem to be under consideration by these companies. They prefer intermittent conditional "bonuses" that are more about manipulating driver behavior than paying the drivers for their time, labor & expenses.

      The $6k for 100 rides wasn't regular pay. It was a "new driver bonus guarantee" for 100 rides in first 30 days. Yep, $60 per ride avg. It was a real offer in Tampa Bay (I can't speak for other markets). I can confirm that lyft offered that new driver bonus in Tampa Bay. I can also confirm they retracted it after 3 or 4 days.

      @@matthewdixon6252 same here, brotha. I used to clear almost $350 in an 8 to 10hr shift easily. Now? Shit. Maybe $200. Maybe. If tips come thru. If no tips, clearly not making $200 in those 8hrs. It's bad. But all the new drivers seem to love the promos they're getting JUST to be on the road.
      These companies are killing the veteran drivers' morale. Driver retention should be a priority. We know the roads and areas better than new drivers would. We cruise thru airports with ease. We navigate highways and business areas with ease. New drivers are sometimes learning what we've already mastered, yet this apparently has no value to these rideshare companies.
