- In This Video, I will be giving my honest review of the anime Bocchi The Rock! My content is satire in nature and while it may sound like I disliked the anime it's mostly bad jokes. I will be talking about what makes it one of the greatest Anime of the season ... by insulting everything about it. Season 1 of this anime was released on Oct 9, 2022. There are probably about 3 episodes remeaning this season and I predict there will be another season. There is a manga that you can read. This video contains light spoilers so be aware if you plan on watching the anime or reading the manga. This anime is currently not available in the English dub. Honestly i started watching it when it began airing cause i was bored and now it has become one of my fav shows of all time
I saw a clip on r/anime last monday and decided to watch.
Same, but 5-6 weeks after it began airing.
@@fredde2593 i watched it after a couple of days episode 11 came out
@@shadowstorm7548 Same
Same^o^
Best anime this season and no one can tell me otherwise. The creativity that spews from this show is insane. Action anime are easy to get hype about especially with so many this season, but Bocchi just provides an "umpf" that no other anime have this season.
The characters all feel very alive and like real people (leaving aside the exaggerated jokes and traits) which can't be felt to this extent in any anime this season either.
Ultimately what I want to say is...
#bocchisweep LETS GOOO
Honestly, it's a contender for anime of the entire year
HELL YEAH #bocchisweep
#bocchisweep 🔥
@@F2p7YshCn9 can easily win aoty only competition are mob psycho, edge runners maybe csm
@@matthewalivio9186 I guess chainsaw man doesn't exist anymore
Bocchi is relatable. That is an understatement. Komi was never supposed to be a relatable character while bocchi is. One scene that most people can relate with was when bocchi imagining herself in future recollecting how simple and enjoyable her life was. For grown ass adults like me it hit harder than anything that's why I love the show.
My favorite character is actually Kita. She's unconventional compared to other characters who are shown to be extroverted. She has shown compassion for her peers and thinks about everyone so that everyone can have fun.
My fav character design is def PA-san
I haven't seen the show, but isn't one of the most worrying things for high schoolers in general being what the fuck they're gonna do in the future? How the hell can she be both anxious beyond reason and knowledgeable of future career choices? Do the people who made this actually think that having social anxiety means you're actually responsible? Most often those people are without a doubt very irresponsible and extremely fearful of their futures (I'm one of them), maybe students are more responsible in Japan cuz here in Canada when I get anxious I just continue to get stressed then don't do anything about it, get more stressed, get depressed, get self-hating, don't eat, then inevitably fall asleep hating myself.
@@Mayhaps-a-turtle Everyone's anxiety related problems are different. In Bocchi's case she's extremely shy and can't interact with people because of it. Everytime she tries to talk to people she induces panic attacks. Japan has a very collective social structure, everyone works together for the sake of the collective and anyone who doesn't fit in is casted aside. Bocchi was unable to mingle with everyone hence was worried about her future. One day she saw in a TV program that a performing band member was introduced and also had social anxiety and being in a band helped him. She assumed that if ahe learnt guitar she'd also become famous so she shut herself in her closet and made herself even more socially inept. She began to love playing guitar and got very good at it. So she mainly worries about her fitting in society in future rather than what's her future is going to be. Many kids get bullied horribly in Japan because they are socially awkward irl. That's the reason Japan have very high teen suicide rate.
Kita is also my fav, her contrast with bocchi just make me smile
Ryo is best girl because I relate to eating weeds
@@Mayhaps-a-turtle Context is important. Bocchi started imagining her future after she met Kikuri, the always-drunk crazy-ass hyper-charismatic bassist/lead of an actually popular professional indie band. Turns out she's always drunk because that's how she dealt with her social anxiety. Meeting someone who's potentially the adult version of herself, Bocchi started imagining her future life as a less successful but equally alcohol-dependent version of Kikuri, holed up in her closet making youtube videos, and realized that this was exactly how her future would go if she didn't improve.
Bocchi The Rock is not JUST my AOTY for 2022, but it's now a deserved member of my top 10 all-time favorites. The amount of visual creativity to make up for the divergence from standard animation as well as a generous share of really nice character pieces to go along with, especially in terms of Bocchi herself and how she addresses these mental hurdles, and some really great music to go along with it. It just works too well for me, even in a season with other heavy hitters like CSM, Bleach TYBW, Mob Psycho, and Spy x Family.
impressively, the anxiety noises Bocchi makes are the VA without any assistance; she just does that
He face melding of and her feaking out are moods man. XD
When her little sister introduced herself as Futari, I started scolding the parents. Naming your kids 'single (child)' and 'pair' is not okay.
You are the reason Futari annihilates her sister with a single sentence.
The Hitori joke doesn't end just with her first name... Her last name combined with her first in the western format is Hitorigoto which means "Talking to oneself".
Not just Bocchi is relatable... Every single one character is relatable to someone...
Glad to see Bocchi getting the recognition this show deserves!
glad to see milk outside a bag of milk getting recognition!
milk girl, hey look a O!
This has to be my favorite slice of life anime. I love how the show makes music look realistic for once. Making the characters learn to play in the band rather than already knowing somehow and playing perfectly. Also the social anxiety is peak comedy. Also great review subscribed.
Notice how in the three times they play live, they screw up each time. It's SUPER realistic.
You should watch "Beck" if you want the most realistic example of learning the guitar. It's definitely not as funny or wholesome though, it's more grungy and has some frustrating relationship drama but, it all felt authentic.
Bocchi is the only anime every week I'm actually waiting for. It's really rare for me to have that. I'm thankful for youtube on recommending me Bocchi dancing in her room. That made me curious af. I was weeks late, but hey I'm already rewatching the eps while waiting 😂😂
I agree with the animation take, even something like Chainsaw Man is not impressing me that much compared when I watched something like One Punch Man, nowadays good character animation and creativity like Bocchi impresses me way more because it's not as common and hard to predict and obviously being more expressive than fight scenes with a lot of effects.
Finally someone said it !
I have not been undstanding the hype for Chainsaw Man, i mean oginal ending animations for each ep, cool sure.
But well i supose i would love CM alot better if i was 15 and just about boobjoke and action.
Now days its the suttel stuff like seeing a girl like Bocchi over come her fears that hits harder than kiling any demons.
Bocchis fears and struggle is real, and her cringe is the prefect brand of "I see where she was going with that but... dam... that failed hard"
Yeah. One punch man and mob psycho 100 were my favourite style of animation and Bocchi hits the real port
@@MouseGoat I'm 20 and I loved both Bocchi and Chainsaw Man
I honestly think people were actively trying to hate on Chainsawman because it was popular. The animation was godlike. Bocchi is great too but, it's a different vibe, you didn't even need to compare them.
The unexpected references are also cool, like the Dragon Ball one last episode and this episode had the "Another Unfamiliar Ceiling" quote in the medical room.
Let's not forget the awesome songs it has. I like the OP (Seishun Complex) and the first song they played in their debut (Guitar, Loneliness, and Blue Planet) the best. The vocalist of these two is the voice actress of Ikuyo and the other two members had a solo song as ED. Waiting for Bocchi's solo song.
Honestly, I want to thank you, Lunar, and everyone who advised me to continue watching this anime.
The anime was really amazing and it became one of the best new anime for me in 2022.
I am glad
i dont think its getting buried, the show goes trending in Twitter japan zone every week when an episode airs ! its really good like K-on minus all the school slice of life! its all about the band scene and bocchi a really good guitarist! i couldnt ask more for this show!
This anime is like the origin story of Band-Maid - a real band rising in popularity. It's like they take the personalities and back story of Band-Maid members and swap them around to form the characters. Really cool!
Kanami the lead guitar in Band-Maid was also an introvert uploading her covers to internet. Kinda like Bochhi.
Miku found Kanami and get her to form a band together like Nijika did with Bocchi - except Miku isn't a drummer. She's a vocalist who can't play guitar and had to learn to play rhythm guitar from Kanami, so very much like Ikuyo.
Misa (bassist) is just like Ryo in personality, and she's also good friend with the drummer Akane before they join the band.
The big difference is Band-Maid has 1 more member. The lead vocalist - Saiki who joined some time later through audition.
I don't know who you are, you just popped off on my recommendation... but holi sht this review is an S tier production. Thank you covering this masterpiece!
Thanks!
Lunar is good. His videos have a certain feel to them. His content reminds me of gigguk's tho it's mostly inspiration in the narrative part. I have high hopes for Lunar and would love for him to make it big in the scene because his content deserves it.
If you like Gigguk or Echidnut, Lunar’s video is definitely for you
Heck yeah let's goooo!!! This anime deserve more recognition because the amount of passion and creativity the animation staff team putted. #BocchiSWEEP 🔥
Speaking of Clover Work and hidden Gem, Shadows House is a show that flew unde the radar for most people despite being amazing. It's a show full of suspense.
I just started Shadows House and was baffled how I missed it when it aired. Definitely underrated.
Fr! It filled my hole with what they did with Promised Neverland. Yes it's not exactly the same, but the mystery vibes is just right to my alley.
@@reezwave I wonder if people ignored Shadows House because of Promised Land season 2.
They have been sscared that no matter how good the season 1 is, they may screw the second one.
(I personally have that fear in the back of my mind that they could screw Shadows House at one point).
I started watching it because my brother started bugging me about how great it was. I'm not much of a slice of life fan since I'm more into character development and fantasy world building but Bocchi the Rock was honestly crazy good. So good that it's my favourite anime.
Sure, I can't make theories with there being nothing like fantastical creatures and powers, but Bocchi herself is enough to power everything.
After I watched the entire series, I still take in media of the anime. From clips to their songs, I have been watching them. It's good stuff honestly.
I was reading the manga back in 2020, and I remember thinking that I would love for it to be made into an anime. This was several months before it was announced back in February of 2021, from which point I was eagerly anticipating the anime. Based on the patterns I've seen is several videos talking about it, the main talking point of this show is Bocchi's social anxiety. While this is of course an important aspect of the show's character (and one that provides most of the comic relief), this wasn't particularly what attracted me to the series in the first place when I was reading it.
I started reading it at a point where I was interested in music related series, and it is in this regard that I was attracted to the series. People compare it to K-On, but as someone who (more or less) enjoyed that show, I found it super annoying as a musician. The characters go through no personal struggle and everything just works out for itself. Bocchi the Rock feels more realistic as they go through the trials and tribulations of a young upstart band (auditioning for a show, facing an indifferent crowd and trying not to suck at said show, not to mention trying to bankroll their band). There's just more at stake in Bocchi the Rock.
I think the music is standout in this show, not only are they bangers, but it has a more indie, alternative feel, especially in the instrumentals, which I feel suits the characters a lot more than some generic J-pop/J-rock would, so I really appreciate that. In short, I think the show is a standout as a music series, not simply a slice-of-life about someone with social anxiety
So glad you made video on this, keep up the good work man!
Thanks!
What I love about this show is how the protag is almost always about to grow or develop with the situations presented but instead has an internal battle with her anxiety. I find myself yelling at the screen begging for her to have the sherd of confidence she needs to make her dreams happen. It's incredible. This transcends the screen into many of our lives, how often have many people struggles with various degrees of self doubt keeping them from making some giant leap in personal development 👌👌. Great show

I didn’t need to call me out like that, ya know!
at first i overlooked this anime until ep 4 came out and i was bored so i started it because i had nothing to watch and it immediately became my favorite of this season. I just find myself eagerly waiting every week for the next episode to come out.
The show as a whole is perfect, the creativeness from the art style to how the music sounds. It draws you in so well and keeps you wanting more the first time I watched it I didn’t think much of it but still I watched and watched and it got better. I want more anime like this that just gives so much creativity like bocchi, and at some point we all could relate with bocchi one way or another
yes finally you made a video about this absolute masterpiece anime
ever since i watch anime i`m never been a fan of musical, idol SoL genre anime.. until i watch Zombie Land Saga and that blew me away on how a musical anime can be this good.. and now this bocchi the rock anime is one of my favorite this season
5 minutes into the anime I knew it would be dope with the gag of her learning the guitar & proceeding to continue to do nothing for 3 years haha. I love Bocchi. As we get more eps tho I think my two favorites are starting to be Nijika & Ryo a bit more. It's probably bc I'm more of a weird mix between them as opposed to Bocchi but every character is really fun to watch. This & Do It Yourself have definitely been my comfort watches this season(DIY is underrated!) but alas I am also a filthy SoL lover. Nichijou, Yuru Camp, & Non Non Biyori have my heart fr
I just hope Bocchi gets as many seasons of joy like Non Non Biyori has. The 3rd season hit hard last year.
@@luckyowl10 same they definitely deserve more than just one season. Heres to hoping. I wouldn't mind another non non biyori season as well while we're at it >_>
@@Wavyles considering the NNB anime finished the whole manga, that's pretty unlikely, but for Bocchi we can dream
@@luckyowl10 Pain🥲 but glad they made it all the way to the end
6:06 goddamn i know in my mind that the anime is relatable but i've buried deep in my brain the memories of WHY it was relatable. And you just digged it all up. My middle school trauma...
you got some good videos mane, definitely subbing
First video I've seen from you my man and I gotta say I enjoyed it greatly! It feels like I found a gem in the rough, and I think Ima give this anime a watch just cause of how well you showed it off in this video. Keep up the quality commentary!
Thanks!
LOVE YOUR VIDS!!!!!!!!!!!!
anyways, do black summonner
Amazing content!

thank you, I just noticed the phone crack detail because of your video
Dude this fictional band made me study songs on guitar again. HAHA the songs were hard especially if you're someone who haven't been practicing for months, but they're really really good.
Never heard of the anime. Looks good. Thanks for the anime review. 😎
Also kudos to the mangaka when the side story chapter of manager and nijika past got released near the same time as ep 8 and nijika ed song.Although i just read the chapter summary and didn't see the full page/dialogue,it really makes nijika ed song lyrics hit harder once you read the chapter
I need to check this out now. Lunar giving his audience something to self reflect on while wearing drip
I'm watching your channel because you make good jokes, keep making videos till 1M subscribers
Dude, nice video... The memes are soo good 😂
Masterpiece? What an understatement!
I feel like I've heard the komi comment somewhere before
goated opinion anyway
The peak of 2022 for me.
A Masterpiece yes it is!! 🎸
Lunar "March Comes In Like A lion" Gib.
Yes, I'm going to be a pest in the comment section of every video you put out till you watch it.
PS- Like always, your editing and creativity is top-notch, and thanks for the recommendation.
One Day... Maybe...
I second that show, I watched it when it first aired in 2016 because I like chess and shogi is quite similar to chess. Turns out, the show was a classic in its own right, I'm even rewatching it again rn
I watched it when it's first episode got released but man as a guitarist this show was hell relatable for me.
I am still waiting for watamote to get another season so I can ger the rise of tomoko animated and actually hear her being creepy voice acted.
Bocchi is probably my favorite anime this year
Congrats on overcoming her amount of subs, now you just need to hit 100k before season 2 airs to brag
Another sick review of Bocchi
4:00 I'm actually watching this in a weekday and I'm skipping my uni lessons to watch this video
imo it’s just on a whole other level compared to what’s airing right now and feels more like a well put together youtube series than an anime
So from what I understand the animation is a bit like Chowders in how it changes it's style a lot and that's pretty cool
I loved opening song
Always listening never skip
I took notice of the anime when it first started getting into the top 10s and I legit thought it was just a story of a rock called bocchi in like some fantasy isekai world lol. Hence the title "Bocchi the Rock". Well it became my favourite anime of this season and probably all time!
hell yeah !!!! this is what I needed in my life SATIRE
Goal of this year is telling my anime friends of this channel to spread it across all their networks in hopes that he can at least get to 100k subscribers, honestly having a blast watching this shit
I live for bocchi Saturdays. WIll sweep 2024 anime awards.
“Bocchi the Rock” -Nijika
Sorry Lunar, despite you being my favorite anituber, if the god of social anxiety Bocchi aka Guitarhero made a RUclips channel, I would sub 9.99999/10 times to Bocchi.
As the saying goes "nothing person kid." :3
Same tbh
6:53 Same. Personally as an anime viewer, anime watcher, I believe that Character work must always be the most important thing, including (especially, actually) in animation work. Every single bit of Bocchi sakuga work is about the development of the character, either their inner struggle or their outer struggle in the world they're living in. (in Bocchi's case, it is about their inner struggle and is narrated inside their mind.) Sometimes it can be a start to a conflict, sometimes it can be a climax that leads to a resolution. Every time it is something that will affect the character's personal sense.
BOCCHI SWEEP
I Love music anime but so many of them are focused on more unique instruments instead of a classic guitar and drums band so this is nice to see
I'm generally not a slice-of-life enjoyer. And to be honest, I have even dropped K-On (that my friend claimed to be a masterpiece). But I think you persuaded me to give Bocchi a shot. Although if the gag about social anxiety as too repetitive (like in the Komi can't communicate), I'd probably drop it too and return to my favourite genres.
Finally the bochi the rock review
Everything this season is good in such a different way, that I genuinely. Lost on all of them on which is the best.
0:59 Yuru Camp I see, a fellow enlightened individual
Damn bro, that's a nice suit.
I remember calling it when the trailer came out, that this show would be really good
a few people replied saying that it looked boring and the animation was bland, hindsight is funny
also 6:53 is absolutely true, Nichijou still looks fantastic nowadays and Dragon Maid S2 was just gorgeous, Bocchi hangs tight with that group
This anime is an underrated gem.
Have seen many bocchi reviews... This one is by far my fav one
Yeah, it definitely flew under the radar of most anime watchers to their "most anticipated anime". Now everyone's loving it due to having no expectations to it before watching that it blew everyone away. The anime really made Bocchi, her social anxiety, and her adapting to her new environment, the center of attention.
The scene at the vending machine with Bocchi and Nijika blew me away the animation was so good
3:57 Lunar, don't do us so dirty, we aren't introverts, we just happened to be free to watch your video about the best anime, besides JoJo Stone Ocean, of the season. Social Anxity/10, around 100000, considering it's Bocchi The Rock!
Fun fact: if you sort out seasonal anime by score on MAL, bocchi is 3rd rank, and threatening Chainsaw Man by very thin margin.
4:01 this one hit too close to home 😭
I am secretly hoping that Bocchi the Rock Johnson wins anime of the year
Bocchi the rock is great!!!! I can relate to Bocchi a lot with stuttering, autism, anxiety, introvertedness and messed up head/mental health issues (combined with the randomness and natural introvertedness of Ryo) and if i ever have to explain to someone what anxiety attacks are like i would show then the "Bocchi glitch" scene among others.
Also Ryo is a goddess of Drip/Fashion and say what you will about Hitori's parents, but her dad is SUPER GOOD LOOKING
laughed a bit on the hitori and futari joke lol, ik hitori but didnt notice futari's name.
You should check out the new Gundam it’s really fun not sure if it’s your thing though
if I'm gonna be honest the social anxiety I like but for the comedic part rather than the relatable part, that's what hooked me but if that had been it I'd have dropped it like I did cour 2 of Komi-san. What kept me around was the literal insane devotion the staff at Cloverworks put into this, I am still floored they made a Game of Life piece to have a throwaway gag of Bocchi's internal thoughts that lasted 5 seconds and 99% of people will have just missed.
Then there's the literal cardboard cut outs to have internal thoughts of others insulting Bocchi or making a damn Plushie of Bocchi's slug form or anything else - they replicated the Scream in Episode 11 ffs!
The animation and off the wall craziness is the best thing in the world and it makes me love this way more than I should talk about.
I watched this anime for the first time yesterday and watched all 12 episodes in one sitting. Normally slice of life and music one's aren't my thing but I really liked Bocchi the rock. I found myself relating to Hitori/Bocchi so much which was surprising but comforting to. I really loved all four girl's, they were great and fun to watch. The opening was good to. I wish it was dubbed though because I like my anime English dubbed. However, Bocchi the rock was really worth it
it took me 8 weeks to start watching im so glad i decided to start watching it :)
Alright, I'm sold
good viddeo :D
I don`t know if you will read this, but could you maybe make a video about Asscendance of a bookworm?
Something I havent heard echoed is that her name being Hitori and he nickname being Bocchi is a reference to the anime "Hitori Bocchi", another SoL that is about a girl who has social anxiety and wants to make friends
i actually went through a time in my life where typing comments on youtube would bring me anxiety. heh. absolutely loved this anime. bothering all my friends about it so they watch it.
3:59 you dont have to do this to me 😭
For me b4 starting the show I never anticipated I would get past episode 3 but it's Christmas day and am waiting for a bocchi episode
Lunar: takes over a year to get just over 24k subs
Bochi: gets 30k within 8 minutes
You did not even include the Blender cube scene!!!!!!
The best way in description of describing Komi to Bocchi
Is literally
Social Awkward girl who no one wants to interact with cause Everyone sees her as pretty and above them when actually the girl herself has no social interaction
Vs
Girl who grew up being friends with quite literally only the teacher, sacrifices her middle school social life to instead learn the power of shredding like Dragonforce, and Still be socially inept but has a desire to be in a band which does come true
YAYAYAAY BOCCHI THE ROCK
Congrats LunarTunes on beating Episode 1 Bocchi subscriber count
Any other slice of life anime / manga that are good??? This is my first one
Honestly thought this anime would just be one of those simple money grap slice of life anime, but i saw it was made by cloverworks so i decided to watch it. And oh boy it seriously didn't disappoint me, i seriously got isekai by the quality of the anime.
You don't bring a whole piano and walk around, you bring piano-themed items to show around!
