Not relevant to the video but I just wanted to thank you. Your videos inspired me to start judo, and it probably saved my life today. I was carrying groceries up my stairs and they broke as I was heading down, I was about to fall ~12ft head first onto a rock but instinctively leaned back into a back breakfall and slid down on my back with only a cracked tailbone. Thank you, and anyone on the fence about judo take this as a lesson of its value even beyond fighting.
Had a related experience where a car pulled out in front of me when I was cycling downhill at speed (about 30mph) - hit near his front wheel and somersaulted over the car, landing on the road surface. No broken bones, just soft tissue damage, and most of that from the bike landing on me. It was a serious breakfall!
My training partners and I are still at the, “all the way out, or all the way in” stage. We may bomb each other once in a while but we still have to step out after each attempt. 😂
To sum it all up: 1. O-soto-gari × O-soto-gari 2. O-uchi-gari × De-/Okuri-ashi-barai 3. Ashi-uchi-mata × Uchi-mata-sukashi 4. Ippon-seoi-nage × Kuzure-tani-otoshi 5. De-ashi-barai × De-ashi-barai = Tsubame-gaeshi 6. Tai-otoshi × Ko-soto-gake 1., 2. and 5. can also be found as 1st, 3rd and 4th technique in most Gonosen-no-kata variations.
Very useful. I have a randori partner who is bigger than me and usually goes for a neck grip Tai Otoshi, and the only thing I could do is a sneaky Tani. I will absolutely add this Kouchi Gake counter, thanks.
Mr. Higashi (unless that's your father's name), could I request a video about the following things? Partner strength/conditioning drills Kuzushi drills for either general purpose or specific throws I'm going to show you "The most efficient Judo drill" to my coach to see if we can work that into our rotation.
The first uchi-mata counter was uchi-mata sukashi (void throw), correct? Would sumi gaeshi be valid with the hop around on seio nage (drop or standing), or would that appear too close to completion of seio nage?
I would love the opportunity to throw this guy around! Too bad I'm 57 and Broken; - ) Great Video's & Channel, Thank you! Throwing you around was just a joke my friend
So ... o-soto-gaeshi, ko-soto-gari (ish), uchi-mata sukashi, tani-otoshi, tsubame-gaeshi and ko-soto-gari (again) Tani-otoshi and tsubame-gaeshi are my favourites. offering that tempting foot for the sweep, many people find it irresistible! (although, I did have one guy take my tsubame-gaeshi, use it to put his foot up to my stomach and then took me over with the tomoe-nage... opps!) I love counters, and used to specialise in them, but with the modern rules on passivity, it's a bit of a risk!
Your counter to seoi Nage and uchi mata is a Yoko guruma, not Yoko wakare. To most it’s a minor thing, but I’m a fan of the original Gokyo (40 throws) and I like to call things by their correct names.

@@richardgodivala4680 😅 I slipped over a chain and stopped my fall on asphalt
@@richardgodivala4680 Stay safe!
Counters is where Judo really begins. Nice work!!!

Great video! Counters are my favorite part of judo.
Thank you sir, you are the one who inspired me to practice judo
Thanks for the wonderful counters. Direct to the point as always.🥇🏆
Amazing demonstration!
Great! Love these videos.
I love counter attacks! Its super useful imo ..thank you for this video!

Shintaro-sensei, this is gonna be so helpful. In countering Uchi mata did you just flip the opponent over with a ukiwaza like movement?

Thanks for the video. I got specially interested in the counter-attack for 大外刈り!!ありがとうございました。
Amazing counters
Nice moves for judo.
Thanks for posting this Mr. Higashi. Do you suggest any counters for big throws like ippon, morote, koshi and o-goshi? thank you!
What the hell, I'm subbed and I had no idea you were still uploading vids. Had to look up your channel cuz I was wondering what you were doing
I like this channel

That step to the side.

I train in a great Dojo, but it would be a great honour to train under Sensei Higashi

I've got the right build for Judo.
Just remember what Elvis Presley said: a little less talk and a lot more action.
You forget a counterattack technic for uchi mata: yoko guruma
I think I've won with osoto-gaeshi more than anything
I hit the de Ashi one on my friend 😂 go Sensei
燕返し!💪
