My least favorite makeup technique is baking, specifically under the eyes. No matter what the person says their skin type is I think it just makes everyone look so dry and crusty and find it a bit unnecessary myself (but I have really dry skin, hate matte skin and don't even own a loose powder so what do I know). I set my under eyes with a pressed powder (usually Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Ethereal Light) but I personally don't think baking is necessary the way some people make it out to be.
I also hate baking, although I have combo skin, I need to set the concealer under the eyes because my undereyes are pretty wrinkly and it always creases. What I found is that taking less powder on a demp sponge and really working it into the skin until its no longer visible keeps the concealer from creasing just like baking, but the skin doesn't look as dry and cakey this way
I never use powder, not even under my eyes. When it creases a couple minutes after I first blend out my concealer, I just tap out the creasing and it's mostly good for the rest of the day. Powdering makes me look so dry and old
@@victoriabyers5161 AMEN! I let mine dry/settle then use a flat concealer brush or q-tip to remove the excess from my fine lines. If I'm doing makeup for photography (my blog or IG) I set with a little pressed powder but in my day to day life I rarely use it
Heather A. Turner yes! I’ve never seen it look good in person. Never. I can see it being good for photos/camera maybe, but then it doesn’t matter if it lasts a long time, so why would you cake on another product? I also do not use powder I’d rather have creases or fading then cake face
Jamie please do videos about how you use Excel in real life to organize things. You have mentioned in one of your videos that this program is your best friend 😁
My favourite technique is to apply highlighter first before the test of my cheek products ... I feel like it makes the highlight look natural and has a lit from within look
I cannot leave out a trick I learned. If concealer breaks up, looks cakey throughout the day or dry. Use a beauty blender and spray it with a silky setting spray like tatcha luminous skin mist and tapping it out. Fixes it INSTANTLY. I have done it! Try the Estee lauder double wear concealer it has a hydrating serum as a primer and then the concealer it is really beautiful.
I loved this video!! I feel like RUclips is saturated with reviews of all the newest makeup, but I never learn new techniques from videos anymore. This made me want to go play with the makeup I already own!!
I love this video so much! Also appreciate how you gave credit to everyone and mentioned what they’ve taught you. You’re glowing lately! Keep doing whatever you are! ♥️
These are great!! I've been using the reverse method since seeing Samantha do it. It's been great for summer. I alter that lip trick because I have lines around my lips (I'm 46) I use a cool toned brown shadow and just use it right under the center of my bottom lip and a highlight on my cupids bow. Really awesome video!
Girl, I'm so glad you mentioned over applying foundation and concealer. Your base was so flawless and beautiful today and you focused on coverage where it was necessary. Even when I used shape tape it was so hard to apply the right amount because you need so little and my dark circles are real. So when I see people applying heavy foundation or concealer with bright under eyes and even skin, it kills my soul a bit every damn time.
Adding a marula oil mixed in with foundation. First going in on the face with drunk elephant d bronzi drops. Looks crazy at first. Using cream blush on the eyes and lips.
Jamie! I can’t stop watching this video. These techniques are so achievable and perfect for everyday makeup. I don’t experiment with looks that much, and the subtle techniques you showed and described look really fun without being too out there for someone like me. Great job and I can’t wait to try some of them out!
This is literally the most helpful makeup video I've ever watched and I've probably watched thousands of videos! I'm going to save this and reference it in the future!!
BEST VIDEO I've seen in a long time! Greta concept. Love that you demo'd and provided alternative suggestions, including products to work with. Thanks so much!
Love this video. Ever since I watched Sam’s reverse foundation vid (+ Wayne Goss) I haven’t done my makeup any other way. Totally one of the best techniques. One of my faves to fix under eye concealer lines is to spray some fix+ (or any other finishing spray) on a beauty sponge or your ring finger to blend it out. No more crease!
One technique that I've been doing recently with a frustrating foundation is applying it to the back of my hand and mixing in a little bit of moisturizer and then blending it out on the face with a brush that I dampen lightly with a spritz of face mist. This combination of steps really makes the foundation apply like skin instead of looking cakey which it had been doing no matter what. I also have oily skin so the cakey-ness isn't related to any dryness.
It amazes me how you're always bringing new content after all theses years. Beauty videos have been a little repetitive over the past years and you're always innovating. Always awesome 💕
Jumping off the concealer technique, what I like to do is use a concealer that matches my skin tone all over under the eyes and then use a little bit of concealer that is one shade lighter just in the most inner portion of the eye to give that brightened and awake look 🤗 amazing video Jamie!!! 😍💕✨
You are beautiful inside and out! I feel like I learn SO much from you and I'm a seasoned makeup wearer. Thank you for being just a refreshing breath of air in this community!
Love your beauty tips! Since I have a combo skin type, I'd normally set my eyes all the way to my brows with pressed powder and my brows would never fade throughout the entire day! Best technique ever!
This was an incredibly helpful video that I'll definitely be referring back to in the future! Reverse foundation was so interesting; I've never heard of that before! I love how subtle techniques almost seem like magic tricks... people can't tell what's different about you; all they know is that you look amazing :)
I'm loving the content lately, come through Jamieee ❤️ thank god there are still talented artists out there who don't need drama 🙌 greetings from Greece 🇬🇷❤️
So I recently came across a different technique. I have been trying to utilize a “pore filling primer” as my pores are a little emphasized with how dewy I like to look. Well every time it was looking cakey and like I had a crap ton of make up on. Well I do my complete routine without a primer, then finish my pore region with the tarte poreless primer. It looks so flawless I can’t even. The key is to push it into your pores versus rubbing.
I have been doing the eye elongation technique since I watched your video with the Alper sisters (sorry if I misspelled) and I love how my eyes look! Thank you 😍
I always learn so much from your videos. I hadn’t heard of most of these tricks before, I want to try them especially putting contour and blush on before my foundation. I really enjoy these tutorial videos!
Thank you so much for just being you and sharing your wisdom! Your passion for makeup really comes through in every video of yours I've seen and I honestly cant wait to try these techniques
Hi Jamie! As a “mature “ subbie I’d have to say my worst technique would be trying to disguise fine lines/ wrinkles with foundation and/or powders! In my areas where I have lines I actually take my beauty blender and dampen it with a bit of facial essence . Then I press away any excess foundation , concealer, tinted moisturizer etc and only powder areas that have no lines! 🌷💕🌸💕🌷 looks fresh and crease free all day 🙏🏼
I love this more dewy natural look! Its what i usually go for on work days. Don't get me wrong. I do like full glam on nights out and crazy dramatic eyeshawdow but for most of summer and day to day this is what I'm going for. Great video 😙
Great video! I need to try the contour cream at the outer corner technique! Becca backlight primer is also good for that lit from within effect. Also would you do a nail video, one where you take us with you to get your nails done or tell us what you use i.e polish, gel, or dip powder?
i love the reverse foundation technique! i use it with the bite multisticks and my powder foundation. i second the too much concealer application being one of the worst...i actually don't mind if my darkness peaks through a bit. kinda gives "cool girl"/"model off duty" vibes.
I used a technique that you do often which is only using powder on the t zone today n I swear my makeup looked beautiful after 5 hours of wear. I swear where I powdered I didn’t like as much as where I didn’t and I’m in love with the technique. I have combination dry skin and it works so well
Great video! I have something to add to the cat eye trick using the tight line. I have one eye that’s a bit more saggy and you can see more of the lid. I right line the upper lash beginning with the sagging eye. I start at the very middle of the upper lid and tight line only the very middle. I don’t go down. Then I do the same on the other eye so they both have liner. Then go back to the bad eye and add more a bit higher until they look the same. I’m 51 so sometimes I have to figure out a way when your skin starts to sag. After I’m done with mascara I go back to the lash line again with a felt tip liquid liner and fill in any skin that’s showing. I can wear a nice natural look, even with this technique.
This was lovely! I got more into a "natural" makeup look, too, and have been doing that "reverse foundation" thing with cream products since Sam posted the video on it awhile back. As for a least favorite technique... personally it stresses me out when people start their makeup with really dark shades and then try to blend that out with lighter shades 😂 Kind of like you mentioned it is so much easier to add than take away - you can always deepen a color but once you've started out with a heavy dark purple in the crease... well, may the odds be ever in your favor 🤷🏼♀️😂
Have you ever tried YSL the shock mascara? If not please try it on camera it's my go to. Also another trick I love. When someone has short thin lashes. Close the eyes and put the mascara from root to tip. Truly makes lashes look longer and thicker and holds the curl. Just clean lower lashline with a q tip after if it transfers.
*Best techniques I've learned are 1) to use a physical only SPF/moisturizer as my last step before primer (if I use one) Josie Maran makes a regular one and a glowy/tinted one. Her SPF 47 moisturizer is lovely and makeup sits on it beautifully. 2) Winged liner hack - weather applying to yourself or a client, take a small amount of gel liner on a palette and add a tiny bit of Duraline to it. Not only will it be the easiest liner to apply, ever. IT WILL NOT MOVE. 3) Highlighter - to apply highlighter use a dense brush and buff that shit into your skin starting at the corner of your eye, going back to the temple and down to the top of the cheekbone. (See Mariah Leonard or Wayne Goss for example). 4) No matter who you are or where you're from, don't line your cupids bow exactly on your vermilion border. Draw a line straight across the cupids bow. Just trust me. 5) do your blush after your bronzer and highlighter. It blends better.*
Wonderful video!! I truly appreciate that you still do such informative videos while so many other RUclipsrs just keep doing hauls & tutorials which are nice too, but this is for everyday tips, u know! .. Thank You ❤️
Can’t wait to try out these techniques! I really don’t like carving out my brows with concealer anymore. Like you, I try to draw hairs to get bushy brows. 😊
A makeup technique that has never worked for me is concealing around my brows to "clean them up". It always ended up looking weird :D But great video!!
These were actually awesome tips that I haven't seen anywhere else. Thanks Jamie!! My only question is...…..how do you know what lip to use with your eye look? I feel like I always just go with a true nude- like basically my lip color- because I don't know what else to do?
I love the way the reverse foundation technique turned out!! I was really worried about how it would look before you put the foundation, I was like shouldn’t you blend the contour a little more? Lol. However, from what I can see on the video, the cream contour around the lip(not the pencil) looks a little weird. But that’s coming from someone who doesn’t like overlining, I just don’t like the way it looks. So it might just be me lol! Love you Jamie!
I tried the contour trick to open up the eyes and it totally worked! I used my Milk makeup bronzer cause that’s all I had but it worked fine. Thanks for the great tip!
Oh and if you go one way with your brow pencil and still see sparse areas, go in reverse with the brown pencil. Go toward the ear then back toward the nose for example. I have to do it that way. Brushing the brow hairs up and down and really fill in the sparse areas.. also setting a black liquid liner that's not matte with a black eyeshadow. Totally pressing and rolling translucent or face powder into the face to set it and using minimal powder with a POWDER PUFF
I'm going to go get some cream bronzer along with the new Natasha Denona palette! I hate to much concealer, baking, and overdrawn eyebrows. I like my brows to look natural.
I agree with all mentioned techniques. No. 5 in the worst category is BAKING. I hate BAKING with passion. I have dry skin and it makes me 10 years older 😆😂
Tina Naté EN I agree on Baking. I would have to say it’s also my least favorite technique. I tried it once and it looked horrible and I never tried again.
The reverse foundation technique is great for beginners because you do not need to be so exact with your placement. I use this technique most days and I love it!
5 best 5 worst cream blushes!! There are so many out now, especially since colourpop released affordable ones too
I agree! RMS, Nudestix, and Kjaer Weis have very good cream blushes. But I'm also curious about other brands like Tata Harper and Colourpop.
Stila has a good one too and there is a new Revlon one that has good reviews
nlemoine18 I haven’t tried colourpop yet, but I really like tata harped’s lip and cheek tint. It’s beautiful!
I really enjoy the milk makeup ones too!
Oooh or the Daniel Sandler watercolor blushes!
Haven’t been this early in a while! Love the 5 Best/5 Worst series! Please do a 5/5 on cream products 🙏🏻

Yes! The Estee Lauder concealer is the best, yet no one talks about it.
Donna Burkett how does it compare to the original one?
I loved this video!! I feel like RUclips is saturated with reviews of all the newest makeup, but I never learn new techniques from videos anymore. This made me want to go play with the makeup I already own!!
I really liked this video but wish you would have done half face of best techniques, and half face of worst techniques!!
I love this video so much! Also appreciate how you gave credit to everyone and mentioned what they’ve taught you. You’re glowing lately! Keep doing whatever you are! ♥️
"as you can probably tell I'm wearing NO makeup right now" OK Jamie like u don't look flawless already smh cant relate
I actually didn't know she wasn't wearing makeup until she said that
Gurl your no make up face is flawless! Your skin is looking soo good✨
What about a five best, five worst Canadian beauty products?
Love this look!!
Love this idea, would be a great video for Canada Day!

Doing that cream contour (with the same tom ford product) and following it with a solid medium coverage foundation literally looks so crazy natural
I loved the liquid lip and liquid illuminator trick 😍

wowww when u put the bobbi brown lip on your cheeks it tied everything together, your makeup looks so beautiful

Girl you are G L O W I N G with and without makeup 👏👏
I'm excited to try the eye contour thing! I've done a lot of these but that one is pretty unique to me. Love this video!
i love the reverse foundation technique! i use it with the bite multisticks and my powder foundation. i second the too much concealer application being one of the worst...i actually don't mind if my darkness peaks through a bit. kinda gives "cool girl"/"model off duty" vibes.
Can’t wait to try this reverse foundation trick!! It looks so beautiful

this video was insanely helpful!!! thank you Jamie for always enlightening us - I always learn SO much from you!
Wonderful video!! I truly appreciate that you still do such informative videos while so many other RUclipsrs just keep doing hauls & tutorials which are nice too, but this is for everyday tips, u know! ..
Thank You ❤️
YESSSS! I agree with you, Jamie, less is definitely more, especially when we get older😉 caked on makeup products age us!
This is my favorite video by far!! I screen recording several of the tips!! Loved it , thanks girl ❤️❤️
I looooooved using the eye elongation technique
This entire video made my day...your skin looks so amazing, like you've been kissed by the sun, thanks for sharing lovely ❤
You should do a brow tutorial on your mad skills achieving hair-like-strokes ❤️.
The reverse method works with powders. I use a powder foundation.
Great tips! TY! I love them all but especially the contour lips 👄

Oh and if you go one way with your brow pencil and still see sparse areas, go in reverse with the brown pencil. Go toward the ear then back toward the nose for example. I have to do it that way. I was doing the cat eye technique as you started talking about it !! Love it
You look amazing! Love the techniques. Please make more of these kinds of videos☺️
Tina Naté EN same. I tried it once. And once was enough for me. So dry, so wrinkly. Wrinkles i don’t even really have. 🤮
The reverse foundation technique is great for beginners because you do not need to be so exact with your placement. I use this technique most days and I love it!
totally!!
Love it! Love it! Love it! Great idea for a video. You reminded me about some techniques I forgot about and I learned some new great ones.
