DJI Mini 2 - A beginner's first drone experience - Sample Images and videos

- When I was first researching drones, specifically the DJI Mini 2 and the Mavic Air 2, most of the videos I found were made by experienced drone pilots. They were very helpful and inspiring videos, but in the back of my mind, I wondered what kind of footage a beginner could get with this drone. In this video, I share footage from my first few months flying the DJI Mini 2. When the DJI Mavic Mini 2 came out, I liked the price and the specifications, and decided it would be the best fit for my first drone. I had always loved seeing aerial footage in movies and wanted to see if I could mix in some drone clips into my family's vacation videos. This video is for other beginners who want to see what kinds of clips they can expect to take with this drone. I don't go much in to the specs of the drone, but simply wanted to share some sample footage and photos taken with the drone. Hope it is helpful to anyone researching to purchase their first drone.

I've had my Mini 2 since 12/25/21 lol. 62 years young and having a blast with mine. I have 6 batteries now because I don't want to stop playing with it. I go higher and further than I should and using the map, I can always bring it back safely. If I panic, I let go of the thumbwheels, take a breath, and maybe use the RTH feature. The range is amazing. I have not crashed it...yet. I will be using it while on vacation, camping, fishing, etc.

I too have the Mini 2, for about a week now and I am loving it.... so much fun and getting more confident in flying it in the UK. I have got an operators license and also did the pilots license to make sure I am covered by the law.... I just wish I could get a stronger signal as I live in a town the signal can be a bit weak when flying. Great Video Shane keep it up buddy.... 🍻🍻👍👍

Very cool vid. My wife is a semi-professional photographer, and we have both wanted a drone for quite a while. We pulled the trigger on the Mini 2 a few weeks ago, and what an amazing little machine it is! We also had no prior drone flying experience, and yeah, if you can drive an RC car, or beat the first level of Super Mario Bros you can fly this thing, lol. And boy does it take some amazing pics! Can't wait to get some filters for it, and play with it some more.

Nice to see another person from MN. I grew up in Vadnais Heights north of Saint Paul in the 70s. Congrats on getting your Part 107 UAS certificate. Many RUclips channels will ignore the fact that they need a Part 107 certificate to use video captured by the drone in the "furtherance of a business". I recently added a DJI Mini 2 to my drone fleet. I love it so far.

The Mini series is incredible, I did something like 80 RUclips videos with the original Mavic Mini, but the Mini 2 really is so much better. Occusync is a blessing for those new to the hobby, and as shown by yourself in this wonderful video, it's absolutely possible to get some real cinematic footage with the DJI Mini 2. Happy Flying 👍
Totally agree! It is just crazy how well the technology works! Even 15 years ago I couldn't have imagined we could ever get content like this!
@@ShaneLongPhotography I don't think many could have foreseen the gigantic leaps that have been made in drone tech....the Chinese really mastered this field
I just got a mini 2 also. I am also a Wedding photographer. I noticed that if you have a photographer’s eye it really helps your footage.
It's a great little drone, and a huge improvement over the original Mavic Mini. You can definitely get cinematic footage with the DJI Mini 2

@@mrbrent62 Yep, you definitely need ND fliters to dial in the exposure etc on the Mini 2. I literally never fly without them

Thanks so much! I am still a beginner with video since it isn't my career. I still have lots to learn! I am just using iMovie. Many of the clips are unedited. Some of them I used iMovie to adjust the contrast, exposure, and white balance a little bit. Hope that helps!

Excellent work! I'll be taking the part 107 test in April here in Miami but I'll still continue to fly for fun. I just want to take the test so that I don't do anything illegal. I hope I can learn to do as well as you do. 😁
Thanks Dean! Good luck on the test! It can be stressful but you'll be fine. The biggest part on the test for me was finding things on the sectional charts. Wasn't expecting that. Have fun flying!

Nice video. As a professional photographer would be interested in your thoughts on using the Mini 2 for photographs. I have seen some quite impressive landscape photos taken with it, surprisingly good. Read recently that there is a way in Photoshop to effectively quadruple the size of photos which together with AEB may be the way forward. A professional's view on this would be really interesting. Thanks
From my experience, it really is quite an impressive drone. It might have some limitations, but for the price, there's nothing in the same ball park for performance
Hello Stephen! Great question! I have started mixing it into my professional shoots for portrait sessions on the beach. I am very impressed. Though I can't push the files as far as I can on my Canon R5, there is still a good amount of shadow recovery and dynamic range. And because I can position the camera anywhere, I don't often need to crop, so 12mp seems to be just fine! If I need more resolution, I have done a manual panorama, and then stitched the photos together in Lightroom. Then I can have more resolution (though the clarity is still determined by the lens, which is good enough). But truthfully, I love this little drone and camera. Im in the same boat. Just bought a dji mini 2 about a week ago. Its my first drone and iv never flown anything. I got it set up with the fly app but still to scared. The terminology is even a little intimidating. So just trying to learn and gain as much knowledge as I can before I make a claim on the 200$ warranty.

Was this taken in Southwest Florida?
It was! We based in the Fort Myers area and so much of the footage was there and the surrounding beaches!

I just use iMovie. Photo is my specialty. Video is my hobby :)

So how was your wedding income in 2020 covid? Was there a dramatic change and how do you feel about this year with work coming in?
Thanks for asking! You know, it was a crazy year. We prayed a lot and saw God get us through it! Lots of rescheduling. And lots of smaller weddings. Many of the weddings got moved to 2021, but they were still willing to send in their final payments to help get through the year. We didn't see much lost in income. Really hoping 2021 wedding season is back to normal! We'll find out in about two months! How about for you? Do you do photography and have much of a loss?
