George… I greatly appreciate your review and demonstration of this new Swiss Tech Knife. Your creekside demonstration took this knife through its paces. I’m like thinking that this might be a little too large for a bushcraft knife of my liking. I’m gonna look into some of the other offerings from Swiss Rech. Thanks again.
You my friend are welcome. I agree to big for a bushcraft knife but a solid camper for sure. Appreciate the support
hey! just subscribed. Great review. I appreciate it when the knife is actually field tested. Relaxing to watch, and allows us to see the product in action. Keep up the great content!
Thankyou sir appreciate the support
I don't usually get too intrigued with Bushcraft knives but this knife did peak my interest. American Specifications, Chinese made, D2 Steel, and powder coated for less that 50 dollars? Well, I had to check it out so I ordered one from Walmart. (Walmart does offer fair pricing on their Buck knives too)
I'll follow-up on my thoughts and get back with you George.
UPDATE: WOWWW, This knife is a Beefy Full Tang monster. It Weighs about 10.20 oz wo/sheath and 13.o8 w/sheath. Yep, I am impressed. Sharp out of the box. (and a fine box it is) Thank You George for showing us a Game Winner.
@skipjames52 nice. I be interested to see what you think. Be safe
if I see d2 I always skip over whatever the product is. Not a fan
@escapetherace1943 I hear you. Personally the best knife zi own is Knives of Alaska bushcamp. It's D2 steel and awesome. Be safe out there
Interesting review, plus nice scenery, thanks for sharing, George.
Thankyou my friend be safe
I want one!! I like that knife. I will wait for it at my local Walmart store. Thank you George for video review. 😊
You won't be disappointed. Not sure when or where it will be available. They said 20th
I've been interested in this brand since we both received the wurdig at almost the same time . This knife has potential. I agree about the sheath. I didn't buy there other fixed blade because of the sheath. I enjoyed the video. Well done George!
Yep. It is a solid knife. But I im with you. They need to do more with their sheaths. Be safe my friend
I like it already. Glad I watch your show , now we get the early bird review, that’s cool man!!!!!!!!!!🎉
Lol..thankyou. not sure how often that will hapoen...Just saying. Be safe
Yes, he is always a good man.
Thankyou
Very cool knife! Thanks for the demonstrations, buddy!
Thankyou as always appreciated
Thanks to your channel I have all the Swiss tech knives now. My kraftig tests at 61hrc so any complainers about it being Chinese d2 are incorrect about this one. Half American made d2 knives barely test above 57hrc.
@@The_RC_Guru I have no way of testing blade hardness, but I worry that too hard will lead to chipping. I can say this, I spent maybe an hour batoning some pretty gnarly oak with my Kraftig. This from about a 3” diameter branch that fell from one of my trees. It was full of knots. No chipping, and when I was done, and I was still able to slice a tomato!
Seems to be a pretty good one. I agree with you George about that sheath. Thanks for the review.
5hankyou. Appreciate the support. Be safe out there
The Swiss Tech "Stahlern" is labeled as a tactical knife and is like the little brother to this knife, but the nice thing about it is that it has a spot for a ferro rod built into the sheath. I would love to see a review on the Stahlern if you haven't done one already!
Unfortunately I have not done one firvthe fixed blade. I tried toget one but they were out at the time. Maybe I check again. Appreciate the support. Be safevout there
If it's as affordable as the other Swisstech knives I'll be picking one up! I have the Listig. The scissors crapped out after about a week and they sent me a replacement. I also have the Wurdig with micarta handle, the Stahlern also in micarta, and the Gerundet in carbon fiber. I've carried both folders and like them quite a bit. The Stahlern hasn't been put through any tests but I like the look and feel alot!! Thanks for the video!😃👍🏻
Nice. I like their cutters. Thanks for watching. Always appreciated
Thanks George! 🤝🏆
Thankyou
Thanks for the review George 👍. Have a good day. 🇺🇲🔪🌲🔥
Thankyou. You to be safe
Great review George. I have become a big fan of SwissTech. Fixed blade, multi tool, folders, flash lights, etc. I will be adding this one to my kit too! I do believe the blade coating will have to go.
With you there.
Be safe my friend
@@2ndchancegeorge I have been searching for more info on this knife. Looks to me like you just may be the one and only who was chosen to do a pre-release view of this knife! Thumbs way up!
I want one !!!! Great video
Lol...gonna have to wait. Thanks for the support. Be safe
I like it, nice demonstration
Thankyou appreciate your support. Be safe out there
Great location! 🤝🏆
Yep favorite Walkabout area
Hey George, I got the Kraftig now. I used jasper and took off the coating and put it in a leather horizontal sheath. I also have the Stahlern, the hatchet and the machete/saw. I attached the Stahlern sheath to the machete sheath. I am going to make a conscious effort to try and only use these Swiss Tech gear items for the next year and see how it works out
Nice. Gotta let me know how that goes. Be safe
@@2ndchancegeorge I will for sure my good man
Thanks George
Welcome
Make a leather belt loop hanger and screw onto the top 4 holes of the sheath, just like on a Cold Steel drop forged Survivalist knife.
Huh..Great idea thankyou
I was watching another swisstech video where you were cutting with the saw on the back of the knife. The saw binds because the wood is pinching on the blade. If you were to hold the wood so you were supporting it by pushing down from the top on one side of your leg and sawing on the opposite side it should open the cut allowing the saw to work
Yep.it does. Thanks for watching always appreciated
Very beautiful place to trudge in summertime! I am really impressed with that knife might pick one up if they are reasonably priced! I sent a package of prizes your way from Texas, can't wait to see your reaction!
It's a nice cutter. I'll keep an eye out. Many thanks. Be safe
Great review thank you!
Thanks forvwatchung always appriciated
Another good looking knife. Did they give you an estimated price? Great scenery and another great review. I generally wind up replacing the factory sheath on fixed blades anyhow. Best wishes George!
Lol..they did not give any info except specs and available on 7-20-2024. Lol
I picked up the "Stahlern" at Walmart a couple months ago. If this one is in the same price range, I'm in! Took the Stahlern and threw on some ranger bands with a tin of wax soaked cotton pads, and a small piece of fat wood. In Aus-8 steel its taken some abuse. Ive batoned oak on several occasions with no issues. Looking foward to finding this one in stock!
Yep, they said Jully 20th on shelves...good luck
Looks like a good knife, I feel the sheath needs to be amadextrous to work for south paws
Yep, you right. Appreciate your support
I just ordered its child the leicht.Get it tomorrow.I'll get daddy when available at the WM stores.
Nice. It should be I am surprised. Be safe
Its kraftig is a online exclusive only!
I have the stalhern, the new vg10 haltbar, the kraftig, the hacken machete , and the belweirk multi tool hatchet and they are all amazing quality
Looks good, hàve to see that oñe first hand!!
Yep. Gonna have to wait...lol. it a nice knife
Looks like a great camp knife and the cost is less than 40.00!
Yep. Solid for the price
The more I watched, the more it appealed to me. It would fit with how I use a knife working or camping. With the holes around the edge of the sheath, there are options. Also could have a leather sheath made that would carry a ferro rod.
Yep. Thinking about making a sheath for it...lol. thanks for watching. Be safe
George, listening to the water, I'm thinking nap time. If you get to keep the blade, maybe a leather sheath project. What you think? Rog
Yep, it's on the list...lol
I love the.stalhern. I hope.they give this knife a green handle.
Yep. I don't know what they are going to offer. They gave very little info. We will see. Be safe
👍🏼I like it’s look
Yep. Very nice 👌. Solid cutter
That looks like a strong blade one that is good for Bushcraft
Yep solid. A little long for some bushcraft shoes. But it works well. Thanks for watching
I did not see a video on the Swiss Tech Tomahawk kit you showed did you do a video on it if so I cannot find it.
Yep I did. Search my channel for swiss tech
If you convex the last quarter inch of the blade, then it will do wood processing much better. You would just be knocking the shoulder off of the V edge with a series of smaller angle grinds. For example, with D2, I would set the edge at about 18 degrees. Then knock some shoulder off at 16 degrees, then 14 degrees and finally 12 degrees using a Lansky clamp and DMT Aligner stones mostly in the 300-600 grit range. Then blend by hand until the should is round with no hard lines showing, finishing with 1200 diamond, 1000 ceramic and stropping with green chromium paste. The feathersticks will be finer and easier. On further sharpenings, you can do convex sharpening by hand on a bench stone or use the clamp at 18 degrees and finish by touching up the convex in the 16 degree region using the clamp and a little blending by hand.
Good info thankyou. Be safe
Looks like it did well. Do you know what the price point will be? Thanks for sharing and God bless.
Lol..was waiting for that question...have no idea. They did ot say
39 dollars
Thankyou appreciate your support
How do you like it compared to their other fixed blade? Do you find the edge retention and larger size worth it over the toughness and stainlessness of the AUS-8? Also which one do you prefer the ergonomics of?
I am a D2 fan, but the AUS8 has stood up well on their folders. Not sure on this D2 time will tell how well they heat treated it. Be safe as always
Mine arrived today. Right out of the box I found a problem. The tang and liners stand proud of the scales by the tiniest bit all the way around. I think this may be by design, maybe to make the red liners stand out ??? Looking at the picture on the box, it seems to show the tang standing proud as well. You can feel the tang in your hand, but I do not think there is really any hot spots. Maybe it will not be a problem, still, I wish the tang, scales and liners were flush.
Everything else about the knife is spot on. I did some light wood work with it and it did a fine job. Did I say it was sharp?! Well worth the $42 it cost me shipped to my door. I still think I might remove the blade lining. I will be keeping it, hoping the proud tang doesn’t cause me problems.
.
Huh. I never really noticed that. Gotta look again
Update. Got the chance to get outside today. My concerns were for naught. I went head to head with my Ontario Rat 5. The very thing I was worried about, the handle, was what I liked the best about the 2 knives. The Kraftig was much more comfortable to use. I do believe the Kraftig is just a bit more sturdy as well. I will not be getting shed of my Rat 5, but I do believe the Kraftig will be my new first line camp knife.
@GregRitchie-s9d nice glad to hear that. Thanks. Be safe out there
Can someone tell me what accent George has? It sounds very British yet it's not. Very cool.
Zimbabwean it is
@@2ndchancegeorge wow very cool. Thanks for sharing
I'd also meant to say that you'd got lost in the algorithm so I haven't seen a video in a bit. Now that you're on my mind I'll have to play catchup
Lol..I have had some technical issues with my computer so haven't posted in a couple days
I’m old fashioned, I prefer leather sheaths!!!!
Yep, right with you there. Thanks for watching always appriciated
Nice knife for a cheap China one.
Lol...true it is a solid blade. Be safe my friend
If topps and esse had a child
I was thinking essee.....lol.Great minds... be safe
By “Design in US” they mean Esse 6 I suppose.
Lol. Probably.
No link
Does anyone know how much they are
About $30.00
The beginning of your videos is kitch man.
Lol..thankyou. appreciate the support. You be safe
Get rid of the blade coating if you want to try feather sticking
Not a fan if coating. Thanks for watching
@@2ndchancegeorge Thanks for all your videos.
@@LYNXNOMAD26 thank you for watching
Thats a south african accent right there.
Zimbo....
Boom Shaka boom Shaka 💥 ...lol
@@2ndchancegeorge not far off. Lekker man. Enjoy!
I have the first release from last year and the sheath sucks . Just put either leather or a uni on it
I'm thinking leather. Stay safe
I think that the butt is made to hammer on, not to use as a hammer. Imagine driving the blade into a stump to use to make feather sticks or use as a draw knife. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.
Yeah you probably right. Be safe
The pictures on the website of the knife show them hammering a tent stake in. Kind of dubious if you ask me especially since you can just grab a rock or stick, but still a nice little design detail
Lol..with you there. Not enough area on the but to be safe
Looks like a really great knife. The Chinese have been working with steel for thousands of years and they are the world's largest shipbuilders obviously they know a thing or two about working with steel and making knives. To anybody who thinks the Chinese don't know what to do they should go to China and see for themselves. I'm a retired Carpenter and 95% of my tools were made in China and when I retired they were all working perfectly.
Lol..true story. Be safe
It looks like they copied the esee 6,
Yep...kinda....coming out with alot more
That rotating sheath is garbage. I contacted the company and they sent another one that sucked just as bad. I like their knives, but that sheath is worthless. I work with leather, so not a problem. Frankly, they didn’t field test their product enough to detect this problem before they released it. It would have been better to make it 1095 so you can strike a spark off the blade stock. The design is good, but the blade stock and that sheath is a deal breaker.
They sent you a knife.??
I agree completely about their sheaths. I have one with a rotating sheath. It's a different model that's absolute garbage sheath, but I've had no problem with the steel stock whatsoever and I beat the s*** out of it
Yep, they use decent steel. Be safe
D2 is better than 1095. What exactly is your complaint here?
@hillbilly4christ638 what sucks about the sheath? I got a bk10 and the canvas sheath that came with it sucks, I got a kydex 1 for it, the bk10 costs way more than this Chinese thing, so, what's wrong with the sheath?? Ain't cool enough for you or is it flimsy, the knife is less than 40 bucks???????
I love their knives, but I hate their sheaths. The clip is awful and the fact that the handle sticks up so high is ridiculous. I don't need my knife handle sticking me in my mid ribs every single time I bend. I love almost everything they make but I cannot stand the sheaths
Yep with you there
I was very interested until you said Chinese D2, sorry that’s an instant dealbreaker. D2 can be a useful steel but Chinese D2 they somehow seemed to stuff up a reasonably good steel.
I hear your concerns. I like the knife. Time will tell me on the D2 steel. Appreciate late you watching and commenting. You be safe out there
I didn’t know that. I became a D2 fan when Ka-Bar started using it. Love the Ka-Bar, also have the Halfbreed D2 light infantry. The Ka-Bar has made many trips to Iraq with me and glad I took it. Didn’t have a chance to take the Halfbreed. But now i’ll be checking for Chinese D2. Typically anything related to China, I pass on. Everyone freaks about the size of the Chinese Navy, all i have to say is all the ships have a “made in China” decal on them.
Thankyou for your service young man. Be safe
You must have been buying 5cr falsely sold as D2 because all the Chinese D2 I've owned has been heat treated to perfection. Ganzo and Sanrenmu do it better than most American knife makers
I have a grizzly hardness tester and it comes in at 61hrc in 4 different places just under the level of the scales. I didn’t want to ding the blade/visible area. If the tang area is at that the rest should be. For $40 it’s a good deal.
