    I am going to be starting this build tomorrow. I have never built a model quite like this one so I'm watching this video to make sure I have a good idea of what to do. 😊

    Looks great. Nice job on build. But just so you know... NO American steam engine ever had "silver" on the nose (smoke box) and firebox... operationally. It actually was graphite aluminum gray (metallic gray primer). Because of the extreme Heat the black paint often pealed or bubbled off... to avoid that, they just left those areas the primer gray.

    No weathering?
    Adding ballast inside both engine and tender makes it feel more substantial, and holds it firmly on the track which prevents wheels being derailed whenever the model is subjected to a slight waft of air or vibration. Without ballast, the wheels regularly jump off the tracks.

    • @FORTworkshop
      @FORTworkshop  Год назад

      Yes, this model without weathering! May be, not yet :). Re ballast - thanks for advice! Usually I add it to plane models, next time will add something to train.

      This is just a plastic model kit. It wont actually run on a powered track. And this also 1:87 scale, which means it will work on ho scale track, not n scale.

    Grandad and I are planning on tackling one of these in the not too distant future, is it easy to make them roll? Would be comical to see this being pushed around by something motorised on my club layout!

    • @FORTworkshop
      @FORTworkshop  11 месяцев назад

      Well, actually this model is intended to stand on a shelf or on a diorama, I don’t think it will be possible to motorize it

    • @Hacksworth_Sidings
      @Hacksworth_Sidings 11 месяцев назад

      @@FORTworkshopI didn’t specify motorising the model, more so making the wheels turn freely so it could be pushed around by another motorised locomotive (a similar premise to Rosebud Kitmaster’s models of the 60s)
      2:25 shows you manually turning the wheels, is it easy to do that or does it require special tools?

    • @FORTworkshop
      @FORTworkshop  11 месяцев назад

      All the parts that go on top of the wheels need to be glued, otherwise they will not stick, and as a result the wheels will not spin. At least I couldn't get them to spin.@@Hacksworth_Sidings
