    As a guy who's dealt with a lot of metal roofs in my day; I'd like to offer you a simple solution to your nest box roof problem. Radius the outside corners of the roofing metal. Just lay a penny on the corner and cut around it. You have to hit the edge head on really hard to get hurt, it's only the corners that get people hurt, so radius them. I've never seen anyone get hurt on the radius corners we made for low height metal sheds. Hope it solves your problem. Great show, Thanks!

    Just because I’m a dork I poked around at your heated water system. If the problem is with the system binding up and freezing, you might consider using pvc male adapters and tapered threaded brass reducers on the end of the pvc tube where your connect your stainless hoses rather than flat pvc bushings. The water flowing trough the feeder tube turbulates at the flat surfaces and that would cause solids to drop out and potentially form a clog. Just a thought.

    Hey there, I’m not exactly sure how the rain barrel is setup. But if you do research on pressure washer setups or even spring boxes they tend to have a few inches at the bottom to catch sediment to protect the pump and keep things flowing.
    Basically all you would need to do is add a elbo connection and a complete inches of pvc right inside the bottom of the barrel to keep it from pulling water directly from the bottom.
    I even seen spring boxes where they make it so you can easily pull apart the elbo to flush the sediment when it is build up.

    Think about adding a tiny coop option to add along with full sized coops when you need to isolate one, or a few chickens, due to illness or just to quarantined new chickens.

    Another great show guys. I have been watching since you started and you have really perfected it just like you have perfected your coops. Ingrid has stepped it up a notch recently with the slide shows and that adds a lot. I am in the middle of my own DIY "Carolina Coop" build and so I have been watching all your videos to try to figure out the design. It is hard enough just to reverse engineer it even while looking at the finished product let along trying to come up with the design from nothing like you have done over the years. What a lot of work you have put into this. Thanks and keep up the great work! BTW: I just received my hemp order from you guys and it only took 2 days, Nice Job!

    WOW! Another SUPER informative video. Love your top ten discussions on possible problems in constructing a DIY coop. Great communication! Roost bar size is really important too, because of how chickens roost with their feet covered by their breast covering their feet - especially in winter. Keep um coming! Smiles from Wyoming.

    I know this is late in commenting, but I have been playing catch-up on a lot of your videos. There are several homesteaders who do water catchment for their own personal use. There is a part called "first flush" that catches the first several minutes of rain & diverts it from the rain barrel. I doubt if it catches everything, but it sure could cut down on the debris that ends up clogging up your water system. I love your coops and watching you & your team putting one together. I'm going to be 75 next month, and my husband & I are on a very limited income, so I'm planning on building our own coop & run. I already have a bunch of tools, but am asking for a couple more for my birthday 😊 You are right about the domino effect! I have all my plans laid out (I'm a list-maker), but I watch another video and tend to like something on that particular coop better. Then I have to back & change 92 things. BTW you guys do an awesome job!

    • @CarolinaCoopsVideos
      @CarolinaCoopsVideos  Год назад +1

      thank you! Best of luck on your coop building. We know about first flush, and usually with the screen it's enough to grab most debris, but for people who want to be fancy, they definitely can install a system with a first flush. Thank you for your comments and we would love to see your coop when it's all done. Remember we sell a lot of accessories, like the egg hutches to make it easier to DIY your coop.

      @@CarolinaCoopsVideos Thank you so .much for responding. I did not know you sold the egg hutches, that's something worth thinking about. Actually, I didn't think that would be my worst challenge. My grandfather & father were both carpenters. They had a lumber company many years ago. I think I cut my teeth on 10 penny nails! I've done just about everything except a tin roof. That definitely scares me. Your crew makes everything look so easy. They really awesome.

    I have wanted a chicken coop for 5 years and I told my husband I have waited long enough. We live in a little town called Thornton, Ca. We live on 2 acres with a perfect area for one. I have been looking on many sites, yes including Facebook Marketplace. The other day my daughter told me about a friend who had a chicken coop her and her husband ordered and put together. She sent me a link and what do you know, it was Carolina Coops. I started looking at them and watching your videos. Yesterday I watched one that was like a podcast. It was dated April 21st, I think. I really enjoyed it. Today I watched another one from April 1st. It was 10 worst things to do when putting together a chicken coop. It was so good. I laughed and learned. Of course, then I saw the price. They are expensive, but seeing the way you and your team put them together, I can see they are worth it. Others that I looked at were made with less quality material and didn't seem like they would last. I could tell they were truly not worth what they charged. After looking at other chicken coops, I did see one on FB Marketplace that was just like one of yours. Like you said, even though they never said your company, I e-mailed them two times and never received an answer. Anyway, when I get a coop, I will have to get a Carolina Coop. I have to say, contrary to rumors, not all people in Ca. are loaded. I mean money wise. I am starting out a little late in life with my venture and can't afford to have your team put mine together. I would love that, but I will have to hire someone here to do that. My question is, will I receive exact plans for the coop, run, windows doors and everything else? Also, will I be able to call with my hundreds of questions? I know this video was made two months ago, but I hope someone reads my comment and can respond. Oh, and one more thing, I was able to answer the #1 answer to the Worst things to do and a few question you asked eachother. So I am learning. P.S. Could say poop instead of defecate? Does everything have to be so politically correct? Thanks. Vicki Dougan

      Hi Vicki! Thanks for your comments. There are many scammers pretending to sell either our coops or look a likes on Facebook. They usually ask for a deposit and you never hear from them again. We only sell from our website/office.
      You will receive an assembly manual with your coop. The walls will already be put together, and everything is labeled. If you hire a handyman they should have no trouble putting it together.
      Check out the video on site prep too, because the land needs to be flat. And yes, you can call us with questions. We never abandon anyone after they buy a coop from us. We are always here to answer coop and chicken questions. P.S. our American Coop is our most popular, it's a less fancy version of our Carolina Coop, so it's more affordable, but still has all the great features and design.
      Hope this helps answer your questions.

    For the hardware cloth, I’ve heard that 1/4” is better, because it prevents small snakes from going in. What’s your opinion on that?

    • @CarolinaCoopsVideos
      @CarolinaCoopsVideos  2 года назад +2

      1/4" is very hard to find, especially PVC coated, and we find only very small or juvenile snakes would get through, which the chickens would eat. Also snakes aren't after chickens, they are after the eggs, but only large snakes would go after chicken eggs. So you would be spending more money protecting your flock from something that logically isn't a threat. We are all chicken people and figured out the best materials and design based on over a decade of experience. 😎
