  • A custom Craftsman Coop that also has a duck house and duck dipper in Hamilton, VA. This custom coop has so many cool and practical features designed to take the work out of keeping chickens and ducks, but still look amazing in the process. The henhouse is 8'x8' and is a shed/henhouse combo with pull out drawers for storage and plenty of ventilation for the chickens.
    This coop has board & batten siding and used a reclaimed door and screened windows in the henhouse.
    Matt answers chicken and coop questions from the new coop owners during this walk-thru.
    The duck dipper feature allows for the ducks to get their heads wet without getting water all over the run, because you want a dry run to keep the chickens and ducks healthy. The duck dipper is designed so you can easily drain it (like a kitchen sink) and fill it up again.
    There is also a heated poultry water system and Matt explains how that works as well.
    This is a variation of our fan favorite Craftsman Coop!

    Love this coop. Just a thought, a cleanout door on the duck nesting boxes will make cleaning them out 100 x time easier than shoveling bedding out over the top. Having the whole back can flip down to broom it straight out would be awesome. I breed ducks and it's a MAJOR issue for us if there's no cleanout hatch. The owner's back will thank you. LOL

Being as cost effective as possible and making it a fun family activity that teaches self sustainability to your children. My guess is those kids will have a tough time ever driving in a nail or appreciating fresh eggs.

    Bears in Virginia will lift those roofs right up on the little accessory buildings. Suggest a latch and carabeener (spelling?) for each. I would also be worried about the run material standing up to bears or coyotes and dogs. I would want to add a layer of heavy gage fencing or even cattle panels. The man we got our chickens from had pens with chainlink fencing gates that had a full surround of aluminum tubing. A bear worked on it until it bent the tubing, ripped the gate panels open, and decimated the chickens. It got into two pens.
    An alternative is to surround the area with electric fence, which actually works quite well against bears and coyotes.
    I would also add some linoleum flooring to the duck pen. Take it eight inches up the walls, too.
    I really do love these Carolina Coops! I want one!

    He sold them as meat. Look. Animals are animals. If you aren't into taking care of them and expect to purchase what is unnecessary but still time-consuming for you.
    My parents had chickens. They planned shopping and appointments away from home to be home to do what was necessary for the chickens.
    Self watering, self feeding, are helpful. The more you put into raising food it cuts into the savings you would make.

      Thank you for the kind words Richard. We love being able to solve issues that our customers have and having ducks and chickens together can be a problem, mostly a moisture problem. Since the front of the duck dipper comes off, the ducks could swim in it, although it's not very big. However, we believe the homeowners plan on having a separate pool for them outside of the run. It was create to allow the ducks to get their eyes and beaks wet (which is necessary) without getting water in the run, which is best if it's kept dry. We're so glad you love this coop! We make coops for all people. Our coops start at $1,750 and since they are built to last a lifetime, we think that's a good price for the high value you get with our coops. Thanks for watching.

    I love the hemp bedding. I filled it up and then add as we go . No smell too. I do wish the hemp wasn’t so expensive and I wish it didn’t take as long to get to the house. But love the products.

    • @CarolinaCoopsVideos
      @CarolinaCoopsVideos  4 года назад +1

      We sell our hemp for $40 for $44lbs. And yes, the shipping can get pricey because of the weight and size, we are working on solutions to that problem. We still think it's a great value because it lasts for years and is so much healthier for your birds and the environment. Thank you for your comments.

    I've watched several of your videos. You've recommended getting a carabiner in just about every one. If I was paying what I'm assuming is a pretty penny for one of these, it damn well better come with a couple..lol. I understand the cost in this quality of workmanship..I really do. From what I've seen in your videos, you build a very high end, quality product! Throw these ppl a bone and give em a few beeners!! Hell, you could even get some made up with your company name on them..just a thought..Love your video, but this one issue bugs the hell out of me for some reason..subscribed

    • @CarolinaCoopsVideos
      @CarolinaCoopsVideos  4 года назад +7

      We do usually give carabiners to our custom coop customers if we have them. (there is so many moving parts that goes into a custom install) We also are making these videos for everyone, so the advice to put on a carabiner is for the audience as well as the customer. Love the idea of branding our own carabiners. We're so busy building coops to concentrate on creating swag. But maybe we need to. Thanks for watching and subscribing.

      @@CarolinaCoopsVideos
      As a sales promo I can see you mentioning in the videos that you provide, as a courtesy, carabiners to ensure no tampering of the latches.
      It sure as hell would sound a whole lot better to the audience than a mere suggestion to everyone, to use them, including the customer that just spent thousands to have you come and make a sales video on their property.
      Please understand, I like what you are doing for the coop industry. But poor sales integrity is truly in bad form.
      I don't care too much for the BS line you tried to feed us above. "We usually give... (them) if we have them."
      AND - your comment "so many moving parts" is just another dodge at the truth! MAN-Up CC! Own it! You just did not consider it!
      Throw Mr. Bishop a huge bone. Offer him something he can benefit from. He gave you a great sales promo at no cost!
      You should be on your knees thanking him for that sales gem he gave you! Instead you pegged all of our BS Meters to their limits!
      In all of your videos I have seen - not once did I see you provide a $1.75 carabiner to anyone!
      You can be better than this!

    I know nothing about chickens or chicken coops, but that one looks amazing. The only thing I would’ve added to it is where the duck house is I would’ve had a sliding drawer. So you could slide out the floor for easy cleaning you wouldn’t be hunched over into the duck house… but all in all and amazing chicken coop. Would love to have one..

    7:15 and I'm done. Raises duck house roof and shows system to slash face and eyes off.
    Serious safety issue to have raw corrigated roofing at eye level. Probably a $20,00.00 coop.
    Also only 1/4 way around outside so slow, talky, talky, more walk next time.

    Is the duck dipper design just so they can get their head in? They like to swim thou, and of course love pooping in the water. I wouldn’t stick my hand in the dipper if they are allowed to swim. My ducks love swimming. Dip in and get their feathers wet, and then they come out and run like it’s been the best dip of their lives! I love the idea thou. This house has given me tons of ideas for both my chicks and ducks. Thank you! 😊

    • @CarolinaCoopsVideos
      @CarolinaCoopsVideos  4 года назад +2

      The duck dipper is just for them to dip their heads, however, the front can be removed and they can jump in there. But the point was to try to keep the run dry because it's mixed with chickens. They plan to have another pond area outside the run for the ducks eventually.
