I am a stihl mechanic if you use aftermarket piston and cylinder on some the coating comes off that is why thay are cheep if you get a oem piston and cylinder it will be about 300.00 make sure you do a psi and vac test on it
JEREMY, thank you very much for this GREAT VIDEO. I have a Stihl KM 110 R that requires a rebuild. Ive never done this before, but I think I learned enough from your video to be able to do it. I am buying a new 130 tomorrow, so the 110 will be a winter project. Again, thank you very much.....
G'day Jeremy, thanks for the vid I learned a lot from it. It wasn't only the build part of it but all the additional information that you always give. Kind regards John Kinnane from Tasmania Australia
Thanks for the great vid, I've got a 420 on the bench now. I believe it also needs a new top end , I've gotten the saw to run but when I switch the top selector from start to run the saw dies . Any thoughts ?
When cutting masonry always use the water jet and diamond blade, wet mud doesn't fly about and get sucked into the engine. The dust from dry cutting easily reduces engine life by 3/4 you need deep pockets to afford to ruin tools needlessly.
Yea and if you use a aftermarket kit it will be back because the coating comes off trust me I work on them all the time especially if you use a stenz especially if the oner is a commercial user
hey @THEMOWERMEDIC1 whats up! so i just bought a top end kit for my TS500i which is a fuel injected model. There are no videos on them but i am going off of your video cause they are similar design. Your video is great but some of the small things i have questions on. do the rings have a up or down orientation? i know on cars there is a dot marked for position.?? do you have any advice on the fuel injected model?? this particular saw has ALOT of concrete dust in and around it. thanks man! i liked and subscribed btw!
had a makita one of those that i had a good run with for about four years with punishing concrete cutting...no secret that it ran faultlessly due to a strict wash & clean after each use. i dislike maintaining power tools but i absolutely hate it when they break down & the waiting and expense of repairing them
Hello mm1 im working on a TS760 that I can not make run like it should. Before it was loosening power when I tilt it down without touching the concrete. And I replaced the carburetor so now, when I run it on full throttle revs up and down. Any ideal of what it might be??? Thanks on advanced
Can you please show me how to strip a TS400 down and rebuild it because I am trying to learn but there's no videos on this model. It will be very much appreciated and I think you will get lots of views because there's still plenty of people that think the TS400 is the best model Stihl did for the cut off saw. I need to know all about it and how to put a pot and piston in, also I would love to learn how to put a new crank and crank seals on this saw, now that would be extra awesome. Thank for this video anyway I think you did a fantastic tutorial.
JEREMY FOUNTAIN sir how you do . i would appreciate if you would answer my question.i have a stihl ts400 that runs strong and gives no problems but i have noticed that both rings have a little bit of wear they move up and down more than normal.what should i do replace the rings before total failure or would i have to change the whole top end
Hi my saw is running fine on idel and when in a horizontal position but when I go to cut position or hi Rev it loses a bit of power and feels like miss firing thanks Alan
I’ve got a question. I put a bit of gas into the spark plug, and it turned on for a few minuets but then it didn’t turn back on. Any ideas on what it could be? Could it be the piston is out?
Hey John, I'm dealing with the same machine in this video, ts420..I ordered a top end replacement kit and noticed it has decompression valve..my current cylinder does not..will this new one with decompression valve work? Tia
Jeremy I know they are similar but it's the little things I am struggling with, like the carb is different and the cylinder head isn't screwed from the bottom, and I want to learn how to break a crank and change the seals etc. There's no video on how to fix a ts400 when there's no compression, and there's no video on how to do anything to do with the crank and splitting the case. I just thought it would be a good idea if you could show your skills on how to fully strip a ts400 and put it back together because I know there's thousands of people out there that would love to learn about them. They are still the best cut off saw Stihl ever made and there's hundreds of thousands of people out there that still use these saws and like I say that a lot of them still think the ts400 is the best saw to have. My mate sells after market Stihl ts400 parts and his business is booming so I know a lot of people would benefit watching one of your videos, but even better would be the ts400. Thanks for
when you put a new top end on you didn't replace the cylinder head gasket and how about doing a presher test to see if the crank case is not leaking don't you have to do that when you do a rebuild like that
Why didn't you show how to put the clip in because it is a pain in the ass that way thay make a band that goes around the rings and a tool to put the clips in
Excellent Job. The aftermarket cylinder availability has just exploded. Whether it be Woodland, Tecomec, Meteor, Hyway, HLS etc. Weedeaterman has been ranking the a/m kits for reliability if your interested.
thank u man u just fix my 420 today watching u video

Hey man just commenting to say I appreciate you taking the time to do this video very helpful for people looking to do this themselves
Hey Motor Medic1. Is this a good cylinder kit excellent video

Do the carbs come pre-set/already tuned??
Very useful videos!
I found that a ratchet screwdriver is sometimes more appropriate than an electric driver.
Very good video
Hey jeremy. I have one of these the bearings on crank is bad. Can I split case like you did on br420 video.
Nice video thanks for sharing

First thing as first is to do a cylinder and crank case leak down test to see if you have any air leaks
@@THEMOWERMEDIC1 do you a video related to this?
@@THEMOWERMEDIC1 or a tester tool number that I can afford to buy?
Commonsense Plus this video wow thanks that was easy I appreciate your videos thanks if you were my neighbour I would have a beer with you cheers.

+Shaun Keen the 400 is the same
Hi mate good video,
Would it be good practice to change rings before total failure when your machine has compression issues starting?
Thanks
nope because the cylinder is worn egg shaped

Could be anything from crank seals to foul spark plugs two plugged up carburetors you just have to test it
Plus it is easier to put the Manfred on the cylinder before you put the cylinder on
What’s a manfred?
A manifold sorry
I have a question boss , why my ts420 loose power when I'm cutting things?
Many things it could be but 9 out of 10 times it’s fuel issues
@@THEMOWERMEDIC1 oh okay thanks boss
I am a stihl tech you can pull just the engine out of the frame / tank and leave the intake boot on

Make shure you tell everyone to do a psi test and a vac test
Tell that to the coustmer when you give it to them thay are going to go full out with it
when you put a new top end on you didn't replace the cylinder head gasket and how about doing a presher test to see if the crank case is not leaking don't you have to do that when you do a rebuild like that
john Kosheluk I replaced the head gasket
That belt has cracks in it
Great video but you skipped over the part where you said the manifold was going to clear the post
Rob Stout it’s all there
Why didn't you show how to put the clip in because it is a pain in the ass that way thay make a band that goes around the rings and a tool to put the clips in
That would have ben easer to do when the cylinder is off dont forget to tell everyone about the impulse hose on the cylinder
Harder
Do a break on a ts440.
