One Xmas my mom bought my brother and I Mork from Ork with Egg Ships as stocking stuffers. At first we didn't know what to make of them. We loved the show, but it was hardly Star Wars. He quickly became a neutral peace envoy in our galactic battles that the Empire immediately shot down. Good times...

1979 was an AMAZING year to be a kid at Christmas! It was a very diverse time! Star Wars was kind of all the rage, but the figures released before Christmas, so I remember having those. But it was a great time for things like the Mego accessories, Micronauts, and the Shogun Warrior stuff! It was a very in-between year, which mean anything kind of went. Star Wars was available, but it's big hit would kind of be the next year with the release of Empire. G.I. Joe was at it's tail end with the Super Joe stuff, before the Joe Team took back over a few years down the road. Mego was still strong, but starting it's slide.
From what I can remember looking back at that time, I think I got a Rom action figure, one of the big Shogun Warriors and a Godzilla, some random Micronauts, and some random "Metal Men" toys, those cheap dudes who would fall apart in about an hour. I remember it being a fun year, just not sure if my memories are accurate. I feel like I was always getting Star Wars stuff for my birthday, which was about a month before Christmas, so I usually got totally different stuff during the Christmas season. It would be fun to be able to completely access those memories and just take it all in again. My mother wasn't big on me getting toys the rest of the year, but she would go all in during Christmas. And the 70's and 80's were a great time to be a kid for the toys! The time right after action figures became a thing, but before they became things to sit in boxes on walls. I wore some of those poor toys out playing with them. And some I still have sitting on shelves!
    Great video!

Nicely put. Star Wars really cemented the toy tie in for all time. 1979 was still a time where there was inventive things like micronauts that were not tied to a movie or tv show.

My mother bought me that Micronauts Hornet ship at Lionel Playtown. I totally forgot the name and toy line though. Back in '79 or '80, my dad took me catfishing. He promised after, I could buy any Buck Rogers toy I wanted at Playtown. All day I was dreaming of getting the Hatchet Fighter. Well, he only bought me Twiki. Come on Dad! You sell mountains of Meth and Coke and you can only spend the cash for the smallest figure in the entire toy line? After that, the only other toy my father ever bought me was the Star Wars: Biker Scout. Also, I had the Mork action figure with the Egg Ship. That's pretty rare.

My memory of Mego comes from probably 83 or 84. I was a huge Heman fan and wanted the Heman figure badly. I still remember clearly the day I was to get Heman. It was a Sunday and we stopped at the mall. Mom ran in to get it while I waited with Dad in the car. I was chomping at the bit. When she came back she delivered the bad news that they were sold out of Heman, but she had got me something else. So she hands 4 - 5 year old me this figure. I probably had the look on my face you get when someone farts right next to you. It was John Schneider himself in his Mego Dukes of Hazzard form. That was my first and only Mego figure and I literally had no clue what I was going to use this figure for. It was compatible with nothing I had and I didnt have a car he could fit in. He was an outcast in my toy box.

I remember finding one each of Membros, Repto and Antron with their card accurate colour brains at the Eaton’s store in downtown Montreal. Back in those days companies would set up display tables and I think that these were accidentally left behind because not only was there no price tag on them but the department manager had no idea what to charge me. Since this predated bar codes by decades I assume he made up a price based on similar Micronaut figures that were in stock at the time.

I also remember getting Superfection (even more fun than Perfection). I have it again thanks to Ebay. I also got Vic the Voice-controlled Vette. I do remember asking for the Millennium Falcon, but I believe that it was after the full size (for action figures, not actual people) was out, and I didn't get it the first year I asked for it. Instead I received the Eagle 1 that came with the figures and it annoyed me at the time. I later grew to love that toy though, because it was one heck of a neat toy.
I could have chucked it up to my mother's general confusion when it came to sci-fi properties (she used to refer to Kirk as the captain of the Millennium Falcon and Solo as the captain of the Enterprise), but I'd bet that the Eagle 1 was just a budgetary decision on her part, because that would have been a pretty cheap clearance item at the time. "Here kid, it's a big spaceship. Shut up now"...
Now, that Jawa playset, I never had that. But, I literally begged for the Hoth playset, and that was nothing but a retooled, and recycled version of that Jawa playset. Oddly enough, I liked that toy at the time. But, I did get pretty annoyed when they actually released that Snow-Walker toy later on. Which alas, I never did obtain.

How very cool that you still have your Christmas list! I had a different method. I would put a circle, square or triangle around items in the various holiday catalogs. There would also be modifiers like asterisks and stars that could be added. All of these made up a hierarchical system as to how badly I wanted things. As a kid I was pretty lucky, the family had some money and I was an only child. So I had more toys than I could play with. This created a bit of a problem, of course some toys I would destroy(who didn't have that kind of fun). But there were toys that just disappeared, I remember opening the present at Christmas. Playing with the toy a bit, setting it aside for the next one. Time would go by I would want to play with that toy again, and it was gone. This didn't happen just once it happened a lot. But here is the rub, my grandmother would throw away the toys I was wanting to keep in good condition. But she would leave the junk.
This same woman as she was getting on in years, would throw her expensive jewelry in the trash. Yes, we had to go through her garbage on many occasions. We are sure some of her jewelry got away. Probably in the same place as some of my old toys(still in their original packaging).

I saw a full display of star wars figures with boba Fett promotion on packages. I saw Luke and I asked for him. My sister wanted a figure too and got Lea my friend jimmy got Han solo. Later in my sister got tired of Lea and gave her to me. So I had a Luke Ben jawa stormtrooper and r2 for my landspeeder.

YESSS I have Hornetroid!!! NYAH NYAH NYAH!!! I loved it so much!! And i had ALL 3 of the aliens. I was so sad that the weapons didn't really "work"...i totally expected Repto's saw blade arm to spin on it's own, or with a wind-up feature.
I had Buck Rogers, the Pretty princess (Queen Adala?), Wilma, the Ben Kenobi looking dude, and TWIGGI!!! I Loved TWIGGI...Bidi bidi bidi.

Your Video just brought back SO MANY Wonderful Memories! I was born in 1970 so am right there with you with many of the same toys in the Christmas wish list. The Mego Micronauts were SO COOL I had a few of them including the Battle Cruiser. I also LOVED Buck Rogers but I hated the fact that the Starfighter was made where the rear legs would BREAK OFF they should have Reinforced or had a different design so the ship could be played with.

In Christmas 79 I got a clear Time Traveler & a red Pharoid, probably some other Micronauts too but that's all I could see in pictures. 1980 was a good haul: Mobile Exploration Lab, a Galactic Defender, Karrio & Repto! I also got Hornetroid at some point but not sure when. There is a Millennium Falcon in the 79 Sears catalog (thanks to Mom for saving all of those). It's got a "non-removable Han & Chewy" and its only 5-3/4 long.

Great video. Christmas was so great as a kid. Not like now where they get presents all year round I only had toys at certain special times of the year and Christmas was the big one. Action man, toy cars, games - great memories. I think from the video you are only a couple of years older than me.
Happy Christmas and new year - look forward to more of your great content next year. 🎄🎄🤝

I'm pretty sure asking for toys is how I became an artist.
We never got the coveted Sears wishbook. So I would draw pictures of the toys I wanted.
And yes those pictures would often include notes. Like where to find said toy at the store.

Cat allergy sufferers of the world unite! I have the double-whammy of also being allergic to dogs, and weirdly, horses. I believe that was the same year Simpsons made the downtown window display solid Micronauts (it could be the year before)...that was absolutely insane. I'm still trying to track down photos...they must've used 2 whole pallets of product.

I'm sorry to hear about the dog allergy, I don't know what I'd do. I'm always on the hunt for photos of that store window, I have a couple of shots but they're terrible photostats from the library. Apparently that thing caused a car accident according to my contact at Grand Toys.

Catching up on videos, so I'm a month late... but that was great. I made lists just like that but didn't think to paste the cut out pics. I was 5 so my memory is fuzzy about Christmas specifically, but I did get in that year the Mego Spiderman, Green Goblin and my favorite, The Lizard. Got the Sandcrawler and pretty much all 3 3/4" Star Wars stuff available, got Buck Rogers and his ship and I went nuts over the Micronauts Alien line, got all of them and Hornetroid, yep those glow in the dark brains were irresistible but really cool designed figures. Later on those Alien figures were stolen out of the backseat of my Father's car on a trip to Grandmas. I was indignant but at least now I think the thief had good taste. 79 was a great toy year.
