    My all time favorite toy growing up! You could do almost anything with those figures. Pose them in almost any position as a human being. My cousin and I would hang thread throughout my basement and have the figures zip line from place to place. Their hands a flexible wrist were perfect for that.

    I was a whippersnapper when these came out and I was Big Time into Star Wars action figures. I was blown away when I first saw these. You're exactly right, they were WAY ahead of their time. I remember them looking very shiny, robotic and futuristic. The fact that they were transparent or translucent made them even more hyper modern. I was very struck by them, but I was way too destructive to have them for long. The Star Wars action figures were much more robust, and I destroyed all of my Star Wars stuff sadly. The micronauts never had a chance in my anxious little hands!. I specifically remember my half decade older cousin Scott having a little collection, showing them off to me and my older brother and making sure I didn't touch a one! LOL.
    I'd love to collect a set though and put them in a display somewhere. Probably far too expensive though

    This video takes me back...I remember having a few of these as a kid (I was born in '84, so I have no idea what they were doing on store shelves when I was about 3...maybe they were Cosmo-Man?) and I'd break them almost instantly. Pretty sure if I looked hard enough, I'd find their hands and feet somewhere around the house. I went decades without knowing what they were, and here they are! Thanks for sharing!

    I had about 12 Time Travelers, 2 Galactic Warriors with the guns, a Galactic Defender and a Space Glider. I also had the Galactic Cruiser, Battlecruiser (the big white thing), Ultronic Scooter and an Astro Station. They were a fantastic toy, I got them between 77 and 80 and they all had firing rockets. I only ever broke one arm on one figure, and my father fixed it by using superglue and using a piece of drinking straw for a splint. He referred to it as a 'rough field repair' and painted the sleeve a funny colour to make it stand out. One of my top three favourite toys pf all time.

  • @brianartillery
    @brianartillery 2 года назад +1

    It took me 40+ years to get the figures I wanted - Acroyear, Cosmic Defender, Space Glider, Pharoid, and all four translucent Time Travellers. They're still absolutely astonishing and, simply viewed as objects, completely beautiful. The first Time Traveller I saw, was one I found on the pavement, not far from where my Nan lived, in Ongar. It was an orange one, which I gave to my kid brother, who was with me. He was absolutely smitten with it, and played with it incessantly.
    I like the detail revealed when the chest unit is removed - there are wires and junction boxes moulded on the figure's chest.

    When I was a kid I collected Star Wars toys but I played with Mego, I loved their 8 inch line and in my opinion they were one of the best toy manufactures of the 70's.

  • @ChapMeifan
    @ChapMeifan 5 лет назад +2

    The original Time Travellers also came in solid colors. I have a solid red and solid yellow (non transparent) from 1977. The metal Space Glider and Galactic Warrior were actually more breakable than the plastic Time Travellers and did not have a screw in the back to change out the rubber 0-ring (they were riveted). You're right about this line being ahead of it's time. Star Wars had 5 points of articulation and were pretty basic with sculpting. These guys were intricate and had etching of wiring diagrams behind the removable chestplate (on the figures). I have the whole series and they are my absolute favorite toys from that era.

    Loved the Micronaut line when I was a kid ... had the Galactic Cruiser, some of the smaller vehicles, the Hydro Copter, and the Star Cruiser. Went well with me Star Wars figures. Hasbro has re-issued some of the figures and I snagged a set on-line. Just wish that they would do a general release of these.

  • @Eyrrll
    @Eyrrll 6 лет назад +1

    Just a couple of notes on Micronauts: There were 3 (you could possibly argue 4) chest plate colors... the silver plate was technically only used on the Inter-changeables Cosmo-Man, so I am not counting it. There was an orangey-gold, a blue, and a yellow-gold. The yellow-gold was sometimes tinted kind of greenish, so you could argue that it was a 4th color.
    Also, late in the series, Mego release 4 TT’s in opaque colors... Red, Lt Green, Yellow, and a Lt Blue.

    @Daoloth 2 года назад +2

    Thanks I'm going to see if I can find mine as I think many broke back in the day. I really liked the Alien with glow in dark head but left it too close to lamp charging it so caught fire heh. I mostly remember the Pharoids as they came in those Coffin things. I'll be surprised if I can find all the bits along with pieces heh. Longest time I had no idea what these things were called or Eagle Force. I think because of where I lived Mego was pretty popular even when it went under. This was like their answer to Star Wars but I don't think it ever quite caught on. I never really understood them or what the story was. I've been trying to find stuff to jog my memory like the Hornetroid I'm pretty sure I have or had if not played with it heh.

    I used to love these figures, and I still do! The first memory of them was being advertised on the back of the official Star Wars Marvel published 'Making of' magazine. It showed a Biotron toy ( with its head on backwards as I found out when I got it!) and a Time Traveller figure with it.
    Right, I'm in! The tooling and articulation was way ahead of its time but ,as you say, fragile...
    How many did I get and carelessly broke? Lots. They were, what? About 99p at the time? Pocket money fodder! I hated that we couldn't get Acroyear or any other of the figures we knew were available in Richer Places...bloody 70s cherry picking!
    You had to go to France or some other European country to get them!
    I was 11 to 13 years old! Not exactly minted...for toys the late 70s were the best of times and the worst of times.
    Don't get me started on the Patrol Dewback or the Kenner Death Star...😁👍👋

    Apologies for being rather late to the party, but I have a 1980-ish vintage Time Traveller that is solid yellow, not the transparent lucite of the original lineup. I have it sitting in front of me as part of my nerd-desk this very moment. Is this rare? I'm certain it's a legitimate Micronaut, not a later-era knock-off as I bought it (age 10) in 1980 or thereabouts at the same time as I bought Cerberos, Lobros and...the other alien guy. The centaur guy.
    I'd appreciate any views on this.

    As a very young tyke, I never understood why the Time Travelers came with those little angled tubes. If you only had a Time Traveler and nothing else, it didn't provide much context. I remember fiddling with it and thinking that it must just serve as a way to hold the figure from behind, but that certainly didn't provide a lot of excitement. The directions on the back card didn't really help me out, either. I probably ended up misplacing them ot throwing them away. In any case, years and years later, I now know their intention, but just a little too late.

    Hello friend! My name is Louie better known as Thejunkjunkie. You say that there were only four figures to the set but I somehow acquired a fifth figure! Now the one I have is all metal even his boots. He has a gold chest plate and a metallic green suit. Legs and arms are chrome color and the head is like a pure silver color. When you move the arms his head sorts of moves up and down. I have never seen this figure so I believe it might be the prototype or something. On the back of his butt it says “Mego Corp 1976 Hong Kong” and “pat pend” really small above the circle on his back. Again I have no clue about this figure but I don’t believe it was released to public. His in near mint condition but no accessories. I would really like to know what you think. He would make a great addition to the released set. Please get back to me. Thank you and take care
