    I always remembered having a all metal hulk as a kid. I remember I dropped it down the back seat of my mom's 82 Toyota Corolla. By then they weren't in stores anymore and as the years went by I thought I dreamed up his existence.

    Those things were awesome. I got them all for my birthday the year they came out and they were all broken in two weeks. The legs fell off. They just did a thumbs. Obviously you said that they just were horrible toys but they were awesome. I love them, and I cried when they broke.

    I had never seen them before when I found a really beat up superman. No cape scuffed up missing leg from knee down on one side. But a couple of bucks for something superman that I had no idea existed. I like that not everything is mint in box in my collection.

    I had the Batman one when I was a kid. It was one of my most prized possessions. I eventually lost it and, years later, I started to wonder if it was even real or just something I dreamed up. But thanks to the internet, I was able to see that it *was* a real thing. I'd still like to own one, but they're pretty expensive these days.

      About dreams, MEGO and childhood... This line was available in France, too. Back in summer 80, 81, or even 82 (i was born in 1972), i only saw one or two MEGO DIE-CAST figures. Alas: just ONCE in my all childhood, and never could get one. I just remember of THE HULK, but perhaps saw a BATMAN too. That was in Montpellier, a really pleasant city in the south where my grand-parents were living, in a store which wasn't a toy-store but a "bazar", as we call it. Not a dime-store at all, but the kind of place you go to when you have to buy gift for some reason - with items of little appeal for a kid, like fans or deco stuff, lousy gadgets, smoker's supplies, and so. All that much expensive than elsewhere, by the way. They had always great toys, but sometimes even at double cost than in usual big stores as 70's supermarkets, or even toy-stores. However, this store had always MEGO toys (mostly 12 inch.). So, at that very moment, i saw this incredible... Incredible Hulk! As everything on the box was in English (an import?), i got very few informations. With my grand-father we finally understood that the toy was in metal and seemed to had a kind of magnetic gimmick (but WHY?... had Hulk became a kind of robot?!). And the price was 100 francs (around 10$) = strangely expensive for a single tiny toy in that era. For example, an 8 inch WGSH figure costed from 25 Francs to 40 Francs (2,5$ to 4$). Whatever, my summer hit was the brand new bunch of MEGO Fantastic Four, in the same time we discovered the late 60's FF cartoon on french TV (i know, i know...). There was precisely a beautiful 8" HUMAN TORCH figure in the store, in his pretty blue french card, but my grand-father was also offended by his price! "What? 40 Francs (4$) for a little piece of plastic... ?!" No way. Not to mention this gorgeous all-metal HULK: not even a chance. Of course, i dreamed of that HULK-toy from another planet, with an incomprehensible concept, with glossy green and purple paint and so weird articulations (i wondered which kind of articulations). The white box was heavy, so that was real metal inside. Like a treasure! And The Hulk was my fav character, as if it wasn't disappointing enough... With my young uncle, we often dreamed of "animated" life-like action figures that would've been able to move, walk, for real... Like some Frankenstein. I hoped that this DIE-CAST HULK would walk, be a fantastic new kind of toy, the future - like an anticipation of Joe Dante's SMALL SOLDIERS movie... I never opened a Die-Cast Mego box, just touched some second hand figures from that line, years after, in Forbidden Planet N.Y., i guess. Didn't get any in my childhood. So sad. The same day, in another store, we found a 8" The THING a bit cheaper, for 30 Francs, and that was over (well, I adored him of course). In any case, in the early 80s, I would never have made the connection between MICRONAUTS technology and this strange Hulk. It was a total enigma for years. As dreams that money can't buy...

      I finally have a distributor, issue 4 and 5 are available through Diamond so hopefully more shops can order 1 or 2. I also give wholesale discounts to independant shops, they can email me at toyventuresmag*at*gmail.com. I'll do deals on all back issues for independents, I pay shipping and include any premiums still left. I want to support brick and mortat the best I can!

    I never had any of the MEGO Die Cast figures as a kid, but I was aware of them because my parents and I attended a toy show in Atlanta GA at the Peachtree Plaza building in 1979.
    During my college years, I found and had a loose, mint and complete MEGO Die Cast Batman figure. But I ended up trading him for something else. Now I regret doing that. If I ever come across another one, I would white out the pupils and paint his black trunks blue, and then, he would be perfect. This, along with the Remco Energized Batman, are products that I wish they could have made Robin. I would have loved to have had a MEGO Die Cast Robin and a Remco Energized Robin.

    I didn't know about this limited run. It really would be cool to collect them. I'm slightly disappointed they are not 4.5 inch instead, which would have made them scale with Super Powers. They are one step up from that, which would make them oddballs in my collection, but if I come across some reasonably priced, I would get them. If they were beat up, I'd repaint them. Pretty cool items on the brink of being lost to history.

    Never knew about this line. Thinking about how fragile the Eagle Force figures were, I'm surprised ANY survived this far into the new century. I'm surprised any survived into the 1980s. I'll stick with the 8" line. Only 8" I have left to get is The Lizard, and I remain ambivalent there. Two great men, one a Canadian and one a British immigrant to Australia, once said, "You can't collect EVERYTHING." Pretty smart gents, you and Tony.

    I had a Superman when I was a kid, I "inherited" it from my cousin, but even thought it couldn't have been more than 4 years old, it was very rusty. Still, it was the only G.I. Joe-ish size He-Man until Super Powers.

      @grandmoffpuppeteer 3 года назад

      @@BrickMantooth surprisingly, right? Especially since Star Wars 3.75" became such a huge hit. We've seldom seen comic figures (and certainly not Manga/Anime) in a G.I. Joe size. I would often buy KOs that were dinosaur colors just to use as super heroes from the comics for this reason. Plus, the increased poseability. But, I've come to learn that my brother and I were pretty unique I'm that desire, amongst kids that young.

    Most interesting indeed. I think these Diecast figures certainly have a definite collectable charm about them. If I had to pick one I like it would have to be Spiderman, as he looked really good in this video. Interestingly, do any of these sort of figures ever exhibit metal fatigue due to age? I only ask as when I was buying several Micronauts Diecast Galactic Warrior or Space Glider figures off eBay a few years back, some were exhibiting crumbling metal feet or legs, which luckily I was able to repair very well. Otherwise, this is a superb addition to the Mego line, well worth going after online. Thanks for another brilliant video!
