Great info!! My parents had very little money during the 70's. So I would just stare at all the wonderful toy shelves at my local SS Kresge's....dreaming that maybe at Christmas..... Can't wait for part 2!
I loved this video, as it stirred up a lot of fantastic childhood memories. I absolutely love the original Mego toyline and I owned quite a few in my childhood collection, but I never knew that the playsets existed, or how extensive the toyline actually was, until years later.
Just so you know, Conan was at that time (and is again today) published by Marvel, who had acquired the license from CPI. The character was in Marvel continuity, to the point that in the Marvel Age comic which catalogued the history of the Marvel Universe, the Hyborian Age in which Conan lived was included as canon. So, yes, technically Conan was Marvel. Thanks for a great video, it's a blast seeing all these friendly fellas again.
Absolutely loved watching this, thank you! The Star Trek stuff was brilliant to listen to in itself, but the stand-out bit for me was hearing about the Star Trek Phaser Battle artwork. When I saw Mr. Spock looking at that kid's missing face, it reminded me of TOS episode "Charlie X" where he erases someone's face and also gave me inspiration for a line: "Spock to Kirk - Charlie Evans is back again, he's erased this kid's face". Superb nostalgia, loving it all, looking forward to the second part.
Another great episode Brian and the editing gods were with you this week as it was a really slick presentation. Love the music as well, I felt like I was on the Mego elevator to heaven!
I'm looking forward to part 2, I love your show it's like being a kid again walking down memory lane thanks for what you do keep up the good work. (P.S. it's really fun to show my grandchildren what toys look like when I was a kid)😁
I notice that the magazine finally got into Diamond's Previews catalog! I ordered some for my store and I hope it ends up being a great success for you.
Visual delight🌌. Hip 'n happenin' easy-listening tunes🎶; highly interesting, sophisticated review☄️. ✔️Respectful nod to the legendary Eddy Goldfarb😁 is appreciated ✔️.
Very much looking forwards to the upcoming Hall of Justice playset video you said was in the works. These catalogue reviews are really great, particularly when you are narrating.
I'm guessing as a kid I never saw the Oz toy or the Waltons because they were in "girls" toy aisle. If funny I work at a Toys R Us years back stocking the toys. That is where I figured out that Barbie can't hold a job. She does it all everything from Astronaut to Race car driver. HA!
The weird thing about the Wizard of Oz figures. A lot of my friends all had the Tin Man. There was something about him very appealing to boys. I do remember the Oz figures pegged along with the Superheroes. I don’t remember ever seeing the Walton’s in stores. Although my female cousins had them. (That truck was the best! I don’t know why but for some reason it felt less cheesy than All of the Superhero vehicles.)
I got the Enterprise bridge and most of the Trek figures that year but just cracked up at the idea of a kid my age getting just the Sonny doll from the Sonny and Cher set. Just a weird little mustachioed guy to play with
The only megos I remember seeing in stores back in the 70s were the superheroes and later happy days. I would have loved the robin hood or knights as a kid but honestly don't remember seeing them. The only reason I had Tarzan is my dad got for me and I loved it but didn't see him either. Lots of superheroes and also lots of the pocket heroes. Oh yeah micronauts had plenty of them.
Same here. I didn't get to shop in toy stores very much until KB opened in our little mall in the late 70s. Mostly we shopped Kmart and Ames and Grants and Hills and other discount chains. With limited display room they mostly only stocked the big sellers.
I had those bulky phasers and walkie talkies. I thought they were pretty awesome at the time but the walkie talkies did not have a very good range. If I had it my way those "communicators" would've had the same range as the talkies in Hawkins on Stranger Things. Those seem to have unlimited range!
We used to get loads of Mego figures in the UK, although nowhere near all of them. We were particularly starved of playsets. I had loads of Superheroes and Planet of the Apes figures (I've stilll got a carded Palitoy General Urko!) I also had Star Trek figures, the Klingon and Spock were childhood favourites, I also picked up a Neptunian and a Gatekeeper from a local newsagents, I passed on the Charon, I thought it was boring! I don't know what happened to them but I wish I'd kept them... and bought the Charon! I also had the Batmobile and the Captain Americar, I loved the pop out shield. A personal favourite were the Mad Monsters, I've still got all my old ones except the Vampire which, rather fittingly, the dog got hold of and chewed to death! Happy times... 😂👍👍
Didn't know the Robin Hood or Knights lasted that long. Don't remember ever seeing them in stores just my father bringing them home from a yard sale and being blown away that they were the same as my Superheroes. Which is weird because I knew about other Mego lines like Apes, Star Trek and the monsters.
The Cheron character caught my eye. Been studying the old Prisoner series from the 60s. In the final episode called FALLOUT we see these black/white people sitting as the judges over the Prison. And the word "cheron" is very similar to "chiron". I'm guessing they're the same thing. And Chiron/Cheron was a centaur/teacher of some notable people throughout the ages, including: Aristaeus, Ajax, Achilles, Jason, Perseus, sometimes Heracles, and even Dionysus. And there is an amazing channel on youtube called Chiron Last...which attempts to explain what the hell is going on in this uber weird world we live in. Anyhow, fun stuff. Great work you're doing...
Yeah, that one surprised me. Somewhere between myself, friends and cousins I’m 99% certain I had hands on every one of the figures shown back in the day, except that one. Which is weird. We would have jumped right on him just for the Axe.
its too bad they didnt do a playset for theIr Fantastic Four figure line. They could have done a rocketship, or the Reed Richarrd's Baxter Building Laboratory....
I would love to know why srarsky, has stolen one of the Astronauts suits,is he going into space is he travelling to a Planet,a Planet were Apes ru!e,is he now rescue mission to find TAYLOR,no he most definitely is not, then why oh why,is he wearing a mego Astronauts outfit,I know he looks like Pete Burk,,but he's not him,
Great info!! My parents had very little money during the 70's. So I would just stare at all the wonderful toy shelves at my local SS Kresge's....dreaming that maybe at Christmas..... Can't wait for part 2!
I had forgotten some of these toys. Thanks for bringing back some long lost childhood memories.
I got the Phaser Battle Game for Christmas in ‘76. One of the best presents I’ve ever received.
Yeah it looks fun.
So satisfyingly 70's!
Great! I was born in '79, so this is like visiting an alternate universe.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wonderful!!! Mego at its prime. Cannot wait for Part 2!
These catalog videos are so great!
thank you!
Lol those sonny and cher dolls in the beginning
I loved this video, as it stirred up a lot of fantastic childhood memories.

As well as 2 issues of "What If?".
Absolutely loved watching this, thank you! The Star Trek stuff was brilliant to listen to in itself, but the stand-out bit for me was hearing about the Star Trek Phaser Battle artwork. Great video, 76 was an awesome year! Conan did actually have a Marvel Comic back then.
Love this catalogues. I used to do this with the Sears catalog every Xmas.
Man this channel bring back so many memories . Thank you .
appreciate the kind words!
My childhood in a short video! I love it!! I still have my Batman Wayne Foundation and all the action figures and their cars. What a fun time!!
Awesooooooooome!!! Just loved this!!!!!!
Just wanted to let you know I absolutely love the music you've chosen for this. I think your music choices are always right on the money
Very very cool. Love seeing these.
LOVED that old video footage of Sonny and Cher dolls at the beginning... A fascinating journey through this catalog ... can't wait to see Part 2!
Another great episode Brian and the editing gods were with you this week as it was a really slick presentation. Love the music as well, I felt like I was on the Mego elevator to heaven!
Appreciate it, I had to upgrade somethings to fix that glitch.
I'm looking forward to part 2, I love your show it's like being a kid again walking down memory lane thanks for what you do keep up the good work. (P.S. it's really fun to show my grandchildren what toys look like when I was a kid)😁

Eddy needs more accolade!
I have the Mego “Starsky and Hutch” figures. They are really nice.
Glad to hear it brought back good memories!
Very much looking forwards to the upcoming Hall of Justice playset video you said was in the works.

I never knew anyone with a sonny or a cher.
Can't wait to see part 2, and you're video on the Hall of Justice. Do you think they'll ever rerelease the Jokermobile?
so great! thank you for sharing this! ordered my new magazine!
thank you, i really appreciate that.

The only reason I had Tarzan is my dad got for me and I loved it but didn't see him either. Lots of superheroes and also lots of the pocket heroes. Oh yeah micronauts had plenty of them.
A lot of this stuff, I saw like once as a kid.
Same here. I didn't get to shop in toy stores very much until KB opened in our little mall in the late 70s. Mostly we shopped Kmart and Ames and Grants and Hills and other discount chains. With limited display room they mostly only stocked the big sellers.

Grate video. The best toys

I vaguely remember the Legends line in stores, but like Marty said, they didn't spark my interest then, but now I think they look pretty cool!
I spent my hours playing with some of the me go charactors loved them
Didn't know the Robin Hood or Knights lasted that long. Don't remember ever seeing them in stores just my father bringing them home from a yard sale and being blown away that they were the same as my Superheroes. Which is weird because I knew about other Mego lines like Apes, Star Trek and the monsters.
Yeah I remember finding Friar Tuck as a kid and thinking "What is this?"
I only ever saw them on the boardwalk as prizes at the wheel stands.
So that's how they did it, transporter technology. I thought it was a tornado that sent her to Oz.
nope, she got beamed up.

Fallout is one of my favourite Prisoner episodes.
@@BrickMantooth Yeah, it's amazing.
The Thing and human Torch "costumes" always cracked me up as a kid. I wanted the actual rocky hide not a costume, lol!
Can clearly see where the hand drawn images were replicated from in the Heroes World catalogues.
totally!
Some nice Megos amigo
thank you!
Didn’t know that mego had a Conan action figure.
Yeah, that one surprised me. Somewhere between myself, friends and cousins I’m 99% certain I had hands on every one of the figures shown back in the day, except that one. Which is weird. We would have jumped right on him just for the Axe.
I had Starsky and Hutch . Lol I never watched the show . It couldn't keep my interest long enough
The cheron ( being blasted by Scotty), is only wearing tighty whities.
Tightie black and whities.
None of those B.C. figures look enough like Raquel Welch to intrest me. Just saying...
We used to use an old taperecorder as a tricorder.
What goofy kids running around in blue Tuttle necks with a taperecorder and Lego phazers....
I made a lego space 1999 gun!
Why does Spider-Man need a car?
To go with his helicopter and boat.
its too bad they didnt do a playset for theIr Fantastic Four figure line. They could have done a rocketship, or the Reed Richarrd's Baxter Building Laboratory....
The Knights weren't KO?? I have the White Knight! idk his name
👍
6:40 Spock looks like he's asking Billy if he's ever been in a Turkish prison.
Once again why the Walton's. Why.
