For 1977 Christmas I got the Star Trek Bridge & all the figures. Damn! that was one Magic Christmas. Still feels like MAGIC! I could never part part with these toys, still got all originals & boxes! 😁
Perhaps one of the greatest toys of the 70s. Mego should have made a sick bay accessory piece for this and we could have just placed it next to the engineering room.
I found one on a business trip to Las Vegas for $50. I brought it home with me as my carry on luggage and it rode in my lap all the way to Ohio. Worth it.
I absolutely love the vintage Star Trek figures and playset. It is really amazing that Mego was able to produce such nicely detailed figures back in the 70's.
It was great watching this video, because as a kid, i actually used to own this! It was a lot of fun, and i had all the figures to match [still do!] and it was a great playset to have hours of fun with and actually re-create Trek episodes. I had the one with the blue captain's chair. I don't know what ever became of this playset, i think i played with it so much it began to fall apart, and i eventually had to throw it away. Thank you for the memories!
I just got one of these playsets last week and the charm factor is through the roof. Transporter still works and everything! I think if Mego does make a new one they should make one like the updated playset they were going to make in 1977.
The barber captains chair looks like the one that comes with the Walton’s store minus the foot rest… Great to see the evolution of this set through those store sales ads… I want to say the Xmas of 1975 was when everyone I knew had something Star Trek including this bridge set with the original 5 figures also the Trading cards the remco utility belt. What a great time it was to be a kid.
I really like this playset, because a) I love 70's style drawn computers / controls / screens on toys of that era, and b) this is just so so cool! Unfortunately I never had any Mego Star Trek myself, but after seeing this I can't help but wonder what similar designs might have been done for the later Star Trek spin-off shows had Mego still been around then... Just imagine if Mego had done the Next Generation 1701-D bridge, Deep Space Nine's promenade or even Voyager's bridge in this style. If only!
I was just talking with my Mom recently about whether or not she remembered much of the toys she got me when I was a kid. Unlike me she doesn't have a very good memory about this kind of stuff, and I tend to be far more nostalgic and hold onto memories more than she does. But she clearly remembered getting me this playset and how much I played with it all the time. Makes me love this set even more. Thanks as always for your great work, Brian! :)
I DEFINITELY want a screen accurate Enterprise Bridge playset! That one you show towards the end of the video is great, but I like the idea of a round one, too. Megos are so popular right now, and they're really hitting a home run with the Star Trek line. A new Bridge is a must. But a Sick Bay, Engineering, a Transporter room and a Shuttlecraft would be heave. They should consider doing what Hasbro has done with Haslab and have us Mego fans fund production of sets. Bypass retailers altogether.
Another great video. This just popped up on my feed, so my compliments and comments come two years too late. LOL! As a kid, I so wanted the bridge playset. I thought the transporter part was the coolest thing ever. Good Lord, I remember those communicator walkie talkies too. Wanted those so bad. IIRC, in the 90's a company had made Star Trek walkie talkies that were more show-accurate than the large blue ones that were made in the '70s. I also wanted that bridge set and figures from Star Trek The Motion Picture. Heh...imagine if Mego had made the Cygnus bridge playset, and the Palomino spacecraft? You could have the Enterprise facing off against the Cygnus, with the Palomino shuttling survivors from whomever you chose to win the battle....or send shock troops to the other ship. LOL! Thanks for sharing this video. Well produced, very informative.
I remember seeing this at Kmart in the mid 1970’s. They also displayed it near the entryway windows so us kids could drool over it as our parents dragged us away into the parking lot. Hoagie sandwiches, popcorn & cherry icees oh my. Now the original Kmart store building is the new probation department for the county where I live, but I can still show u the area near the windows where the Enterprise Bridge was displayed with all its crew members.
If this playset were to be reproduced again, I see no reason not to make both a faithful reproduction of the classic Mego version, as well as one that has graphics that are more screen accurate. This is just vinyl wrapped cardboard, after all. The extra expense required to make both versions would be negligible, and would cater to a wider variety of collectors.
I was scared to death of the “salt sucker” as a child. My father would lurch around under a green blanket and grab my face with his hand, and proceed to pretend to suck all my salt out of my face while i screamed lol
Elder sibling found one of these across the state line about a year ago. Penultimate MEGO purchase before my Lizard figure. Closure feels nice. Great production as usual, Brian.
Great video Brian. Very well paced. It gives a perfect amount of Information, While also Including a good amount of Information. This is one of your best videos. Signed, The Phantom.
The oddest thing to me was the variants of the plastic chairs. My set as a kid had robin's egg blue captain's chair, command console and stools but a friend's set had an orange captain's chair(?), command console and black stools.
A repro bridge set should be made per the original with the addition of clear vinyl pockets on both front and back of all panels. Updated graphic cards could be inserted in these pockets to produce the TV bridge, movie bridges, the D bridge, a Klingon bridge, a Romulan bridge, etc. The outside pockets could be used with additional graphic cards to simulate various away mission environments. The plastic computer desk in the original version should be removable from the wall and when added with the correct chairs and other plastic doo-dads would recreate the TV Sulu and Chekov control panel. Various accessory packs could complete the look of each bridge and planet and include items such as chairs, wall fixtures, and replicator food. Perhaps an extra hidden swing away vinyl panel could add a turbolift door. An extra special accessory pack could include TV cameras, TV stage lights and mic booms, a folding director's chair, and a Gene Roddenberry figure so the bridge could be used as the TV shooting stage of a space adventure series. A shuttle craft which fits inside the folded set would also be a nice touch.
Would rather mego release a movie version of the bridge playset to go with their movie figures. That tv version is readily available, time to do something new.
It's a great set. In fact, I would argue it's one of the best and most affordable that they put out. I just got mine this summer. I would love to have an Apes Forbidden Zone and Wayne Foundation, but those are a bit out of my price range.
I got the Bridge set and all the crewmembers (and Klingon) for Christmas one year. It still ranks as one of my Favorite Christmas gifts ever! I did find an inexpensive set to have as a memory a few years ago (my original didn't survive my childhood). Honestly, if Mego were to do a playset (exceedingly unlikely) of the bridge, I'd prefer something more screen accurate, with not only TOS viewscreen replicas, but maybe some SNW ones as well, and a few original ideas.
I still have my old mid-70s set with five or six figures (including a Klingon) and it's still pretty mint. It has the blue captain's chair & console, the working transporter, and the 3 carboard scenery cards for the viewscreen. I wouldn't sell it, but I often wonder what its worth.
Excellent episode!!! That is a beautiful toy. I know there are plenty of folks that would prefer a more show-accurate look to the Enterprise bridge, but I really don't mind the liberties taken. The brighter colors and simplified control panels are a little more cheerful and fun to look at than the grey/black/red of the actual set. I'd love to see this get another release.
YES!!! I WANT A REPRO of THIS set...and then I'd LOVE to see a NEXT GENERATION version...so keep the original the same, but give us a "what if" for ST:TNG to go with the Mego Star Trek Picard, Data, etc.
I'd honestly buy either a straight repro or an updated one, but, if I *had* to choose, I'd go for an update. Wonder if Mego would have success Kickstarting a bridge playset?
@@BrickMantooth my favorite toy of all time... my “RED RYDER” is the DINKY ENTERPRISE you had at the beginning. I slept with it on my pillow looking at it.
I think I would prefer a more show accurate bridge playset. I do however love the iconic transporter feature. There has been murmurs of mego playsets maybe coming out put but perhaps different than the originals so they are more display backdrops than playsets but who knows. It's planned in line with the 50th anniversary releases of the Mego figures.
A show accurate version of the deck would be cool. (But maybe I'm just saying that cause I already have an original one of these and would have no need of a reissue. heh.)
I need some help. I would like to buy on or off card Mego 70's Trek fig's. I have look on the net. But how do you know what is true 70's and what is fake. I have the ones I got as a kid,but shaby(to say the best). I have them all even the cartoon fish guy.
For 1977 Christmas I got the Star Trek Bridge & all the figures. Damn! that was one Magic Christmas. Still feels like MAGIC!

One of my favorite birthdays was when I turned six. I got this set with Kirk, Spock, and McCoy. Great times!
I had one as a kid.
Never had a single Star Trek figure but this thing was the satellite for my Justice League for many a year.
I had so much fun with mine in the 70s. Wish I still had it (of course)!
I found one on a business trip to Las Vegas for $50. I brought it home with me as my carry on luggage and it rode in my lap all the way to Ohio. Worth it.

11:59 - 12:11 I would want both. Accurate for display, faithful reproduction to re-live my childhood days from 1975.

I had this in the box found at a flea market in 1979ish.
I just made a purchase too your TOY VENTURES MAG from ebay cant wait to see these issues soon
thanks so much for the support!
I remember having the Denys Fisher Tardis in the late 70s that had the same feature that was the Transporter
Yes, it was the same concept, both were developed by Mego.

Heh...my dad was no help whatsoever when we got back from a showing of "The Exorcist" in 1973. LOL!
30 years ago I picked one up for $1 at a yard sale. Complete no box, with Kirk. Still one of my best yard sale finds.
yeah that's one for the books.
Yes... I just bought it. I love it! It's charming and. reminds me of a time when I was a happy kid.

all the figures are t-1 my fave that i love it..

Dig that crazy rainbow paint job!
Yeah, although the show used a lot of gels in their lighting, I wonder if that's what Mego was trying to portray.
Apparently the little closet next to the transporter is supposed to be the sick bay. I use it to store the utility belts and tricorders.
they shoved bones in the broom closet? He couldn't have been happy about that.
I had the bridge as a kid. I bought the reissue in 2000

@09:15
Wow!
49,50 (deutsche Mark) was a lot of money back in 1975, thank you Mom and Dad, I had no idea 😉😊
Yeah that was a pricey toy.
I'm late, but I'm here. I love it, Brick!
I still have to get this play set.
It's a great set. In fact, I would argue it's one of the best and most affordable that they put out. I just got mine this summer. I would love to have an Apes Forbidden Zone and Wayne Foundation, but those are a bit out of my price range.
Awesoooome review!!! Just loved it!!!! Still have mines boxed!
It's so good!
Awesome retrospective Brick, and love that intro! I could totally see Isaac as some sort of powerful cosmic being à la Trelane or Q 😄
Isaac is a powerful being.
Great video I think both star trek sets would be cool
Yeah, I can't decide either.
I once had the U.S.S. Enterprise playset twice in my lifetime. The Mego in 1974 and Emce/Diamond select in I think around 2004.
Thanks for the video.
thanks for the watch!

The ST:TMP bridge would be a fun update to the classic playset.
My bridge had blue console and chairs
I never had this but very awesome for sure

i used to pose all the crew like they fell off their stations that was what stuck with me the most as a 5 year old

I really want to see both an original bridge and a show accurate bridge from Mego...
I wish these sound effects came with that mego set
I had the bridge along with the action figures in 1976-77.
That commercial, though...
*deep voices, chanting "Star Trek," repeatedly, like Viking rowers*
I'm laughing my way out of my chair.
It's a bit creepy.
Dorinda(from 1973's Truck Turner) action figure.
Man I wish I were born in that era it sucks to be me
I would only want a Mego recreation.
I'd honestly buy either a straight repro or an updated one, but, if I *had* to choose, I'd go for an update. Wonder if Mego would have success Kickstarting a bridge playset?
I cant tell if I'm old or what. I'd rather hear and see this series compared to any of the other Star Trek offerings. it's cartoon too!!!
That music in the TV commercial,,,,why did they use music from the Omen ?
It's people creepily chanting "Star Trek" and I don't know why.
「光波輸送器」的設計真是堪稱一絕!可載入玩具史册。
I can smell the vinyl from here
i want this so much!
I loved every Mego Star Trek toy, and had many of them. Having said that, I was never okay with those silly and bizarre Telescreen cards.
I think I had the bargain basement set when I was a kid it got played with
This brings back memories but was anyone else disappointed that it didn’t resemble the bridge at all? It looked like the GOLD KEY comics bridge.
I never thought about it but you're absolutely right, it just needed more giant levers.
@@BrickMantooth my favorite toy of all time... my “RED RYDER” is the DINKY ENTERPRISE you had at the beginning. I slept with it on my pillow looking at it.
I would not mind either play set
I had it but It got ruined in a flood in the 80s if I see it again I'm buying it..
Bring Back Starlog too.... Please.
It wasn't much, but damn did it get mileage.
I've always wanted a replacement, then build onto it with a scale bridge with everyone's station...
I was probably 6 years old when this came out
Since I still have my original Mego set (with box) I would love to see a more accurate set
Isaac is an implacable foe...they're in trouble. I only ever had 3.75 figures as a kid, and even I wanted this.
I saw that 2 rofl
My brothers had one I think
I want the new Mego to make the Cat-Woman that worked on the bridge...aND a BRIDGE playset. My first STar Trek was the Cartoon.
I wish I had hung on to mine. Separated from it during one of our moves. I liked it, but liked my Planet of the Apes playset better.

What was the deal with the rainbow bridge colors?
A show accurate version of the deck would be cool.
(But maybe I'm just saying that cause I already have an original one of these and would have no need of a reissue. heh.)
What onecost with the box, in good condition,
Had it as a kid sadly got thrown out
The transporter is a film darkroom door.
Cold open: The Love Boat, The First Generation!
Too bad they didn't keep the Salt Vampire view screen card, it would have come in handy 45 years later when they actually released the figure. 😆
yeah I thought the same thing.
The greatest playset I had. Got it for Christmas. Them my cousin tried jumping over it and crushed it.👎
I need some help. I would like to buy on or off card Mego 70's Trek fig's. I have look on the net. But how do you know what is true 70's and what is fake. I have the ones I got as a kid,but shaby(to say the best). I have them all even the cartoon fish guy.
0:21 🤣🤣🤣
i could have fun with that "view screen". get post cards and scenes from other tv series .
Show accurate version I would prefer especially if they can make the prototype shown in 1977 catalog.
that would be so cool.
🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝
Id rather see a more super accurate bridge as I was never impressed with the Mego version and I dont see how anyone else was either.
Id prefer if a more accurate bridge set was made.
Do people is Canada all pronounce decal as dical? Or is it just your own particular mispronunciation?
I can't speak for everyone in Canada, I'm not even sure I'm saying it wrong, sounds right to me.
In Canada, I always pronounce it as decals, or perhaps I watched too much US TV? 😄 My Mom of British decent pronounced it as dicals.
3 very Un- cool and un-happy fools, voted this down!
They were outvoted 329 times.
Those are the ones that never owned one.
I'd rather have a new model accurate to the actual Starship
