    if only mego had held out for a few more years and entered the playset and vehicle craze of the 80's. imagine the great toys mego would have made.
    i always liked the mego box playsets, yes they were cardboard but the were great and doubled as a carry case.

    One of my neighbors had the Vulcan Shuttle! I used to play with it when I was at his house. He had everything Star Trek.
    I believe they may have blown it up on the Fourth of July...which was a tradition for them to blow up a no longer wanted toy on that holiday.

    Even as a 7 year old, I hated that some Star Trek merchandise had 'Star Trek" written on it in large letters.
    The hardware in the show didn't, so I knew it was wrong. If a 7 year old thought it was dumb, why did they do it?

    Awesome video, great content. I would have loved any of these as a kid. I was lucky to get alot of Star Trek Mego toys but would really like that 3" 3/4" bridge set with working elevator and instead of medical room maybe a n engineering room or phaser bank/photon torpedo room. Or maybe these rooms could've been add on purchases? Ooooo I can't stop now with all the possibilities that could've been!

    Always fascinating to see what got left behind from out favorite toy lines.
    A 3 3/4" inch TOS set would have been amazing.
    I do find the higher priced bridge a little odd. Not just because you have to go up to get to the Sick Bay, but because the Sick Bay seems more like a Crows Nest.

    I always wondered what would have happened if Star Wars was never made. Would Mego and Star Trek have moved forward with many more successful years? Would a 3.75 Star Trek line dominated the toy market? Would sci-fi shows in general have backed off without something big like Star Wars coming into existence? It makes me wonder what toy lines would have evolved from that vacuum.

    I saw in one of the ads shown in this video a pair of working wrist communicators based on the ones from "Star Trek: The Motion Picture".
    I would love to know about those and any other role playing toys Mego was going to make based on that movie.

  • @AJFisherDesign
    @AJFisherDesign 7 дней назад

    I’ve long wished for a Star Trek 3.75” action figure line. They’d be more affordable, easier to build custom dioramas for, and have “built-in” playability when one considers all the other 3.75” products available in other toy lines.
    I don’t need crazy # of points of articulation but knee-bending is good.
    I’ve seen some bad sculpts in regards to character likeness.
    With the advent of modern scanning tech the toy industry should be able to achieve very good likeness with the actors.
    A 3.75” might also be easier to retool for new characters over time.
    I know some folks adore the Playmates Trek figures but I never liked the “cartoonish” caricatures preferring more lifelike proportions.
    Thanks again for a fun video and share.
    See you “Out There!”
    P.S. an animated tour of my own WIP U.S.S. Vortex; a Sparrow Class science starship I imagine existed during TOS.
    Only 4 decks. Could be made into a playset lol!

    I do wish that Mego had made a line of 3-3/4" action figures for the Star Trek TV series. In recent years, Funko/Super7 made a line of Star Trek "ReAction" figures, but Mego's head sculpts for even its smaller figures were superior to those of the ReAction figures... and Funko/Super7 still didn't make figures of some of the notable Enterprise crew people -- Chekov, Chapel, Rand, etc.

    • @BrickMantooth
      @BrickMantooth  3 года назад +2

      Yeah TOS has never gotten the 3 3/4" line it deserves.

    Really when you consider the GI Joe flag or the the GI Joe headquarters, the Death Star etc play setsprobably had more to do with the quickly rising price of oil and plastic. By the early eighties the oil supplies were straightened out with OPEC. But the jump from $0.25 to a dollar a gallon for gasoline during that time. Definitely had some effect. I also wonder what Megos Star trek budget was vs. There micronauts budget since the micronauts had a whole hell of a lot of plastic.

    The 3 3/4 figures AND the improved bridge. And yeah, there didn't seem to be a price-break problem with the GI Joe Space Shuttle or any of the GI Joe bases. Heck, the Jabba the Hut Star Wars set was pricey but they flew out of stores. But this is a great video presentation - thanks!

    I always wanted more areas of the ship. So a 3 inch line would have made that possible. Engineering and Sickbay would be great. Sometimes I look to see if Love Boat could be found cheap. I would just use all those compartments for areas of the Enterprise.

    If the mego toy company just had thought to make a Sulu and Chekov action figure they could have at least advertise that properly and showed the two pilots sitting with Kurt, Lieutenant Uhura could have been at her station, And chief engineer could have been in engineering and why wasn't there a doctor McCoy action figure in the medical instead of two Scotty's ? Thanks for the info love what you do keep it up.

    As far as the Vulcan shuttle goes, was the commercial Aired on tv in the 70s / 80s, or was it a commercial that was never aired and has only been released in the modern day? If the commercial was aired on tv, why would they advertise a toy that was never going to be released?
    I wasn't alive back then, so I'm asking.
