Angel walking into the door frame was a blooper they left in!
I was wondering if that’s what happened lol.
Pat seems to be the only one who gets Faith's relationship with the Mayor-she views him more as a surrogate father; not too different than how Buffy sees Giles. Grooming would imply something sexual which the Mayor was quick to shoot her down when she made the sugar daddy comment. The only thing that makes it kinda creepy is how the Mayor sometimes talks to Faith like she's five years old.
UPDATE: The word groom has such negative connotations now but (as others have pointed out) the other definition applies as well. Sorry I meant to phrase it differently. Just based on some of their reaction they seam to have referred to it in the sexual meaning.
"Grooming" has taken on an almost universal sexual context in the last decade or so but its meaning was a lot wider at this given time. Wilkins is grooming her...to be his successor. There's pretty obviously no sexual intent on his part. She already tried a half assed pass at him and he shot her down.
which is shocking cause he never gets the actual underlying tones
they always see everything as sexual since all they think about is that as well. Also they're not the brightest.
@@Shadowman4710 He's not grooming her to be his successor. I'm not sure where you got that idea from.
im kind of getting tired of all her feminist bs in these reactions
Btw the Watchers Council does not actually choose the next Slayer. The selection process of who becomes a slayer is completely random and unpredictable. The Watchers Council simply monitors potential candidates and provides training and guidance to the current Slayer
The Mayor walking into the Library is such a great moment. Feels like a violation
The Sunnydale High yearbooks are so large because they need extra space for the obituaries section.
Omg 😭😭😂😂
Our yearbooks were that big..
"Pat, never fight me." 😂
The mayor is forming the father daughter relationship he didn’t have when he lost his wife years ago
There's a theory that he did have a daughter, who died of a communicable disease (possibly the flu epidemic of 1918; he was married in 1903), which is why he's so careful about germs.
Well damn. Now I’m depressed
The Mayor’s wife actually died at a very old age after he “sold his soul” to keep himself young & healthy. His wife resented him because he never aged, while she grew older or ill throughout the years. That’s why the Mayor feels superior to humans and seeks immortality. I think his affection towards Faith comes from the fact that slayers age slower than normal humans, they’re physically stronger than humans and they heal very fast. So the mayor sees slayers as superior to normal humans.
For Buffy killing a human is a line she does not want to cross because it ruins the idea of what a Slayer is for her. The way she copes with how much the weight of the world on her shoulders have damaged her life is by essentially glorifying the Chosen One into basically a super hero position. Superheroes are always good and true to themselves and morally right and don't ever deal with the muddy gray morality of the world. It's okay if her parents have decided to divorce, it's okay if she had to change schools and feels alone - because she's a superhero or something and what she does matters. To accept that she's CAPABLE of just taking a life is to accept that Faith is not that different from her herself and that shatters her whole worldview so she wants to reject Faith and prove her wrong.
Faith is the inverse on that - she's avoiding dealing with guilt of taking a life by fully embracing the idea of being evil. After all if she's evil all along she would not need to care about what happened. Someone like Buffy existing decimates that worldview so she wants to prove Buffy wrong. It's kind of weird that they kind of missed entirety of Faith's character arc considering the show ain't exactly being subtle about her being conflicted and traumatized.
That creates a dynamic of Buffy and Faith both trying their hardest to deny each other and that they are very similar but simply made slightly different decisions. Both are running away from their problems.
For Faith - Buffy killing her IS a win. She proves her wrong and she does not have to deal with her issues or trauma.
Both are essentially trying their hardest to avoid the realization that the world is not black and white and that people can make mistakes and end up on opposite sides based on nothing but circumstance.
After all, realization that morality is a scale and the world and decision making is a lot more murky than deciding between good and bad is part of adolescence. It's part of graduating from your childhood and onto your way into adulthood.
They seem to be really determined to not understand Faith's character, it's wild.
Sophia Crawford is also the stunt double for Kimberly the Pink Ranger. Literally a 90s icon.
Faith shooting Angel from behind the *Sun* neon sign was like rubbing salt to injury. She really said "I'm gonna slay his ass and it's going to be both iconic AND ironic". Cool little detail.
I thought it was way too on-the-nose
@@bernardsoul5186 Most people don't notice it.
LOVE the Anya love, I’m so happy y’all are liking her character
When Buffy thought she killed Ted(robot) she was guilt ridden and ready to go jail for what she has done. Also Faith is someone who always had it in here. Rememeber in Faith's first episode she lost control while fighting a vampire.
I was lucky enough to watch this when it originally aired. Looking back, it's amazing how great Season 3 is. The momentum of these last few episodes is phenomenal.
Which just continues through to the end of the series!
so close to Angel the show yay ... lol. this two-part finale is such a great finale, one of my favorites. buffy's outfit in the fight scene is so iconic and definitely intentional since buffy and faith are foils of each other. and your faith conversations are on point 👀. will leave it at that.
Now imagine having to wait almost two months to see part 2, because that's what happened in the US. This episode aired on May 18 and they held off airing part 2 until July 13
Is there any reason why the network did that?
@@chaost4544 Same as Earshot, because of Columbine. Although it aired May 17 and 24th here, and I believe Whedon even encouraged people to torrent it, as it had aired in Canada.
@@koreygeren2677 there was no torrent back then or social media for joss to tell fans what to do. even if there was, he would never say that because he was currently working at the network-- he would NOT openly tell fans to steal a copy instead of watching it on tv. i dont know where you got that rumor, but it sounds completely false to me.
Why you guys so convinced that the mayor-faith relationship is creepy?! Twisted, definitely. But in no way sexual.
Because this is literally how older men groom young women or girls.
A lot people I've watched it with and reactors I've seen were at the very least suspicious of the same thing. It's not outlandish. I think we're all meant to question his motives, ..up until this next episode that is.
@@alexiscardarella except when Faith called him Sugar Daddy, he made it clear there was zero chance of that type of relationship between the two of them. His affection for Faith was a warped version of Giles's affection for Buffy. There really was no indication of any kind of grooming on his part. Other than grooming her to be as evil as she can be.
@@fuionochingsung5091 I found it to be a father daughter type very early on, but I can see why someone would still be skeptical. I personally believed him when he said he was a family man to Faith. But groomers do literally say that shit. They begin the relationship under the false pretense of wanting a mentoring or parent child type relationship, make no sexual advances, and carry that on for years until they do.
@@alexiscardarella no, I get it. But at this point in the show, one could easily draw the same conclusion about Giles in that case.
Because it IS creepy. Not sexual. But still creepy.
According to the Kendra actress, the accent is based on the actual accent of a region in Jamaica. She got a dialect coach to help her and everything.
I have heard/read that the people of that region applaud her for nailing the accent while everyone outside of Jamaica thinks her accent is fake as f**k.
classic normie thinking, what can ya do
Such a great first part to an awesome finale with one of my favourite fight scenes. Buffy kicking arse in red leather pants is iconic, so good! Can’t wait for part 2 and then we begin the Angel journey
The music during the Buffy Faith fight 👌🏻
Such a stellar episode. The scene where Buffy tells Wesley he’s fired is iconic!
Buffy vs Faith, love it every time
The suspense is killing angel
“Plus..these babies are high in fiber, and what’s the point of being an immortal demon if you’re not regular..?”
I love the violation of the sanctuary of the library when the Mayor walked in. There have been only a couple of instances throughout 3 seasons when the library had been infiltrated. Although its not exactly a fort, the team bonding and planning within the library has given it a "safe space" vibe. Also loved Willows cheerful trading of yearbook autographs with Harmony even though there was a history of torment between them.
It's gonna be a loooong week waiting for the last one. From the moment you guys started doing buffy, there were a handful of eps I couldn't wait to see you guys react to, and season 3 finale is near the top of the list
"Fencing, such a British thing to do"
Yes. The famous British sport of Fencing lol.
You guys were ridiculously on point in this reaction. Between the pipe bomb and the explanation of Amy "complaining" about the show with her rat noises, I had so many LOL moments. :)
Rana making the realization that until this episode Faith hadn't committed murder was great.
The Mayor already told Faith he didn't find it amusing when she assumed he was attempting to be her sugar daddy for giving her her new place to live. The Normies don't seem to understand that.
Snyder was sus, but being afraid of The Mayor doesn't mean The Mayor isn't forcing him to put on that everything is great attitude. That is what makes The Mayor such a great villain. The power he has and he plays like everything is normal life until he can't (two episodes ago with the box) or doesn't need to (the upcoming ascension).
*Willow with Anya:* How come evil girl's in the mix.
*Willow with Jenny calendar:* Who let her into the group.
It doesn't matter if your part of the group or not. The core four are the only real members of the group. Even The Normies notice Oz is in the background doing very little in most episodes.
The Mayor in the library worked as such a comedic and tension building scene.
The Normies were missing the point on whether Buffy should kill Faith or not. Buffy bringing Faith's knife to fight her makes no sense. If going after Faith was about helping Angel, taking a knife is not a good idea because stabbing Faith depleted the blood supply Angel needs to be cured. Faith would have little of it by the time Buffy got her back to Angel. Buffy wanted revenge, plain and simple. It wasn't about helping him, even if she had convinced herself it was. And Faith calls Buffy on it ("Still not gonna help your boy, though") as well as it now being at her level ("Ya did it. Ya killed me). It doesn't matter that it changes her. What matters is that she was willing to go there with purposed revenge. I agree with Faith in that regard, and I think Buffy makes the same realization the second she stabs Faith. The look on her face afterword shows that realization.
Can't wait for the Graduation Part. 2 reaction. That finale is bonkers. Part 1 sets ups the pieces really well.
I know..keep waiting for the upload…sigh..
This is one of my favorite oz moments. When the mayor walks in and Oz stands in front of willow to protect her.
I'm so here for the instant Anya love
God, I can't believe we've nearly finished the season. What a ride. To this day my favourite season. This episode is so good.
A few points:
-"don't kill humans" is arguably the core of Buffy's moral compass. She knew Faith was willing and able to murder innocent people and still didn't go for the ultimate punishment until she was pushed into a scenario where there was no other option. There's an argument to be made that, as a Slayer, she has the capacity for a love of violence, but she also recognises that she can't let herself ever get to that stage, so she has a code she follows to prevent it. Faith pushed her hard enough to make her bend that code, but it took a lot to get there. It also demonstrates Faith's position as a character - she is what Buffy could become if she allowed herself to, and if she didn't have the people in her life to keep her grounded. As always, the defining characteristic that makes Buffy special is her connection to the people around her. Faith lacked that connection until she fell in with the Mayor, so winds up the way she does.
-Mayor Wilkins is still, for me, the greatest Buffy villain. He's so evil, but so personal, and what's more he's not a monster of some kind, he's a human whose ambition drives him to act monstrously. But at the same time he remains very relatable. The core concept for his character is "what if Mister Rogers was evil", and it's both written and played brilliantly. There's more to say on this, but it needs to wait for Part 2.
-Finally we see the show go to the wall on the Watcher's Council - they suck and are useless at best, an active obstruction at worst. Wesley doesn't quite manage to represent the Council at its absolute worst, but he's totally blind to its failings. Great decision to have Buffy set herself apart from them as part of her character growth as she leaves high school. She doesn't need them and they are irrelevant - Giles is what he is because of his love for Buffy, not because of his role. Again, great moment.
-It's funny that Angel leaves the show just as the writers figure out how to make him compelling as a character even when he has a soul. His spin-off is honestly great, if very uneven, because it can explore him in a lot more depth. Ultimately his best features as a character are, funnily enough, shared with...
-Anya, who is fantastic. She and Angel both have a lot of experience, but not a lot of maturity. It's also just occurred to me that Anya brings out the best in Xander precisely because of her immaturity. Because Xander is insecure, even though he is attracted to powerful women, they bring out his worst qualities. When confronted with someone who he can mentor, he becomes a much, much better person. She's also hilarious, both because of great writing and because Anna, whose name is actually Emma Caulfield is an elite performer.
Can't wait for the season finale.
Emma Caulfield

Spiders were made of tootsie rolls with food coloring paint.
We love Anya
I'm loving all the speculating and possible foreshadowing. 🙂
"So there's a dead white woman in the back, and you're going to jail for ten years." One of the best lines from Chris.
Gotta love how whenever a evil villain takes in a troubled character it's instantly "grooming"
Silco and the Mayor are some of the best fathers on tv, at least better than Buffys real dad😅😅
Claiming Silco and the Mayor are some of the best fathers on tv is a wild take. Of villain father figures perhaps, but father figures in general? Oof, not a chance.
It's literally grooming my dude.
It wouldn’t be as simple as “not doing Anya wrong.” Because even if she THOUGHT you did something she didn’t like, WHAM! She lays some mojo on you.
Lmao I recognized what was happening on One Tree Hill
Still my all time favorite series…great character development and arcs..just a constant up in terms of everything..plots, effects, characters…
Is someone or something a half-human hybrid demon from the Buffyverse?
Normies!!!! I just have to say that I've been loving your reactions to Buffy (and soon Angel 😁) Brings me back to when I watched it during its initial TV run, and it's great to see all the genuine reactions that pretty much matched how I felt when I watched, and to be able to share in your enjoyment of the series - especially love hearing your post-ep discussions, prob because I already know what is yet to come. Of course, the only difference for me being that all the 90's vibes that you guys thought seemed weird or corny was definitely pretty much the norm for me (even though the corniness was still pretty much there, heh)
Mark 4:04. "Harmony Kendall" - Mercedes Alicia McNab! Yay! After this season, it will be safe for you to finally get your own copies of Buffy's yearbook and read the funny autographs and advertisements!
Ah noooo, a week to wait for the part 2!! So excited for season 4 which is the show evolving in some interesting ways with some brilliant stories and episodes before my favourite season, 5. And I look forward to your Angel reactions too. I won’t watch every one because it’s very monster of the weeky in the beginning and because I’m literally doing a rewatch myself but I can’t wait to see you discover the joys of that show.
So an issue you all are missing for the mayor is that while he may not SEEM strong, it's an act. Hes a powerful warlock. He hasn't lived that long hanging around demons and other evil beings purely based on luck. When he walked into that library he was perfectly sure no one could dtop him from walking back out. He's immortal and still has access to whatever spells amd abilities he learned. He just doesnt see the point in using them anymore since no one can stop him.
i love Buffyverse lore, how they explain that in the past earth was basically Kaiju Land, like thousands od Kaiju Size demons rulling the place.
What was weirder is that the show didn’t get blowback when Giles referred to the Genesis story as being a fable, or a fictional story, I forget the exact word he used, but, in the commentary they thought they’d get flack about that..
@@johncspine2787 to be fair it was a very shot quote, so unless you watch the whole show you probable miss it, and the show kinda support the Cross, so kinda balance things
Mark 13:08. When no one broke character, they kept that in!
Rana fumbling her stake at 14:09 is so perfect.
man I can't wait for them to reach season 5 and onwards. that's when things get real heavy.
I've said it before and I'll say it again - would love to see a Chuck, Veronica Mars or Psych reaction after you're done with the Buffyverse.
Oh my GOD, I haven’t heard that One Tree Hill song in over 15 years and I immediately starting KILLIN’ that shit!
This is fun. You guys are fun. Thanks .
Fun fact, Bianca Lawson who played Kendra happens to be Beyonce's step sister.
Another fun fact. Robia Scott, who played Jenny Calendar, was part of the duo" Diamond and Pearl" they were spokespersons and backup dancers for Prince. And they were on the cover of one of Prince's albums.
Still with the silver to kill vampires, Suraj??? Guys, I thought we're over this basic nonesense.
Its so funny to see them yell out scenarios at the beginning of the episode and us knowing TheNormies are not prepared for part 1 and part 2.
“Mickey’s going to get killed” 😂 that whole discussion is the kind of quality social commentary the show was built to generate
This was a fantastic episode.
Buffy might have not known Ted was a robot, but:
1) she was fighting for her life;
2) in self-defense;
3) he was supernaturally strong;
4) he fell in the struggle, it wasn't a calculated murder.
Mark 6:37. Adjusting her hair is grooming in one context.
But anyway, if Cordelia knows anything about bicycles, then she would know how relatively expensive the bicycle is that Willow rode because she would recognize it as a vintage collectable! 😉
Mark 0:49. Hi! Your video is my first whole video that I will be viewing with my new smartphone that I got yesterday! The audio! You no longer sound muffled!
buffy killing faith to save angel would absolutely make her closer to evil. Even though faith is evil now and is the reason why angel is dying, buffy can't trade lives like that.
I want to officially start the campaign to watch Smallville after Buffy
This finale is easily Top 3 of the series. Can't wait to see y'all go in to one of my PERSONAL favorite seasons - 4. Four gets a lot of crap for being kinda all over the place, but the themes and stories and ideas around some stuff I absolutely LOOOOVE.
Have fun in this last episode, it's a doozy!
Well..it’s like the first year of college..it literally IS all over the place..
Now I need one tree hill reactions
lol epic start to the video
"Grooming" used to have a good, wholesome definition, like the owner of a business grooming his son to take over for him when he retires, or local law enforcement taking "street tough" juvenile delinquents and grooming them into good, acceptable members of society. But then America saw that a bunch of kids were super cool with sexually degenerate behavior and getting involved in shady, and actual sexual relationships with adults, and instead of using words like "brainwashing" and "mind control" to explain what was happening to the kids, they took a word that defines what adults SHOULD be doing with kids, and started using it to define what Adults SHOULD NOT be doing with kids.
And the worst part is no one bothered to replace it with a word that can be used with its original definition so that the original idea of "Grooming" does not pass from the "Collective Consciousness." Because we all like to accentuate the negative Too Damn Much.
UC Sunnydale isn't Stanford, but it is among the top West Coast Universities, ranking just below the Ivy League on the other coast. So it's not such a huge step down for Willow to go there instead of Harvard (or even Oxford).
No-one ever knew the real name of the Inca Mummy Girl, but she took the name of the exchange student she killed, Ampata.
The most common letters in English are ETAON some people put 'R' next, others say it goes ISHRDLU. I don't know it any further.
Anya's power worked through the pendant. She had been a demon for a long time, but without the pendant she is just a human girl and is finding it difficult to adjust.
Wesley asks Buffy to go check out the apartment, and Angel gets shot. Then he proceeds to say that he can't help them. Wow
He at this point is a de facto member of the gang and actually wants to help..it’s the council that refuses, Wesley still feels loyal to the council, but, Buffy forces him to realize his own situation and helps him for his future arc..we don’t see this immediately, but in the next episode you’ll see a glimmer of it..
I hope you guys upload Buffy s4 and Angel s1 together... just like they did on the WB.
Their Angel episodes are only on the Patreon for now, they won't release edits. Just full uncut reactions

2:33 I see you! And there's something at 16:42 but I can't stop on it...
Buffy attacking Faith had less to do with her "going evil" and more so to do with killing the last of her innocence. Buffy has always been an allegory for the horrors of high school and being a teen. The end of this seasons sees them graduating from teens to adults. Part of the storyline for Buffy was stripping away from her some of the more innocent parts of her personality and making her more grown up. Having her make more adult decisions. It started when she lost her virginity to Angel and culminated with her stabbing Faith. Buffy knew after the events of season two that she would have to start growing up but was resistant to it at every turn. Which is part of why she never told anyone that Angel had returned, but also one of the reasons she clinged to Faith so much. Faith represented a wild, carefree apparently innocent attitude and Buffy clung to it. That was until Faith killed the Mayor's assistant. Then things took a real turn. The events that followed and Faith's turned to the darkside dropped the innocent veneer from Buffy's eyes. She began to see the world as a much more real, darker place. Its the reason her relationship with Angel falls apart. She sees it with more adult eyes and realizes that its not sustainable. She tries to deny it at every turn, but it becomes very apparent to her that there's no future in it. The last bit of innocence Buffy had was she was always reluctant to do what was absolutely necessary to save the one's she loves. Stabbing Faith proved that if she had to, she would kill an evil person if it meant saving her friends or saving the world. It was the last bit of her veneer. Going forward she isn't going to be evil. But there is going to be a more grey morality that will be interesting to see unfold.
Man, when Buffy stabbed Faith, that was quite the… gut punch lol
Don't get too curious, all questions will be answered.
Ya'll did great on this one. Value added Normie humor!!!! ☆☆☆
God, I love Anya. Girl has zero brain-to-mouth filter and it's so refreshing, and her lack of understanding of human emotions is endearing. It gets tiresome when you have too many characters unwilling to say what they think.
Suraj is going to "lose" it when he see's who shows up in Angel. The first scene is going to make him happy who's in it.
Joyce was *not* going to LA and get wasted. Cuz the guy she'd get wasted with was staying in Sunnydale. 😅
Mark 4:10. Is that Billie Piper?!
no double drop for the finale? :(
I love one tree hill 😂
The Inca mummy girl was Umpata
damn, I always thought you doing OTH))
I hope that some people warned them not to watch the opening credits of the first episode of Angel , so they don’t get spoiled about the cast!
So, with respects to Buffy stabbing Faith. Go to the season 2 episode called Ted. Watch Buffy's face when she realizes she killed Ted and compare it to her face just after stabbing Faith. It's the same face.
I say all the time that Ted was one of the most important episodes of the whole show, as it does so much of the heavy lifting with respects the universe building, especially slayer lore building.
One of the key components of that episode was, while the season one episode Angel showed us that a slayer is a judge of the underworld, Ted showed his that she has no authority over humans.
Buffy trying to kill Faith had nothing to do with being the slayer, nothing to do with judging Faith worthy of death, and everything to do with revenge. Xander of all people tried to warn her. As much as the fans like to debate whether they approve of the move or not, go back and look at her face and you will see Buffy woke up in that moment and regretted it.
The slayer isn't a killer of humans. She escaped the crushing weight of killing a human in Ted, but she can't escape the consequences of what she did to Faith here. Especially as it wasn't an accident.
I know, long winded right. Still, I mainly like to point this out to show how layered and character driven the show is. The intentionally made the issues in Ted to later support the greater dilemmas they would face Buffy with in episodes like this. It also was the supporting episode when Faith accidentally killed a human. It has aspects that directly affect quite a number of episodes all the way through to the end of the show.
It's one of the reasons why this show can actually be better on the 2nd time through, as you pick up on all the details they laid down early on that you miss. As much controversy surrounds the creator of the show, he planned a lot of things so far in advance and put foreshadowing in all over the place.
Made the comment before they discussed Ted. Nice. Not too many reactors realize the link after the episode.

Graduation Day part 1 was another brilliant episode with the Buffy and Faith fight a super climax. We can see Faith out of control committing cold blooded murder of the Professor. We now know where Faith's knife ended up with Buffy giving it back to Faith in her gut. All this leads up to the brilliant part 2. S3 was where the show really developed into a stellar series. Interesting part where Xander pays homage to Jaws ' we are gonna need a bigger boat'. This was a brilliant Season. Enjoy part 2!
Again Buffy kilked 2 men in homecoming.
