This is a very transitional season as everyone is finding their own way. It's very representative of how life is after high school and you're trying to hold onto how it was but are being forced to grow up. What will Giles and Xander do now without a job or school (or direction)? How will Willow adjust to her new life? Will Buffy be able to move forward without Angel and without a Watcher? Mark 31:06. Hmm. In "Project: Upward Bound" on Saturdays, we had recreational trips to amusement parks, et cetera. But on Wednesdays, we had educational field trips to learn about career opportunities. One was about the United States Army when we visited Fort Sill. Part of the tour was their obstacle course. If we were curious enough to participate, they let us try each one after a soldier demonstrated the correct way to do each one for the recruits. They went first, then we did! Some of the jocks types even did better than the recruits! But I recall one girl doing her best to walk across the log/pole from one side of the gully to the other. By the way, it was different from the days when the campus ROTC had their days to try and get more students. I had fun repelling off of their roof, but I scared the drill sargent that thought that my jaw was going to break on the edge of the roof! A blond guy from my dormitory asked permission to leap from the roof to the nearby flag pole because it was so close! But he was denied every time! It all prepared me for when I got the metal door stuck shut to my friends' room across the hall from mine. I had kicked it too hard to demonstrate something. We thought it was tougher than it turned out to be! I could exit via the transcom above the door, so I made my exit out their second floor window. People outside thought that I might jump and flip as I did so. But I lowered myself out, backward, and gripped the window sill. My clothes wanted to cling to the red bricks! Then, after dangling a moment or so, I dropped. I wanted to impact on the green grass, not the tiny trees, the guard rail, or the concrete handicap access ramp! 😉
This is UC Sunnydale. it's not Stanford, but it is a top university. I'm so glad that we had one-person bedrooms at my University. The first episode's college scenes were filmed at UCLA. Great reaction to Pedro Pascal in his 6th acting role ever. Same with Sunday's death. Chris's Sunday school joke was pretty on point. Same with his racket joke. Sunday, script-wise, was initially supposed to be a slayer. I like to think, head canon-wise, she still is. That, combined with Buffy having trouble adjusting would cause the issues she's been having and allow Sunday to be who she was to Buffy opponent-wise. The guy was David Boreanaz. He guest stared for that brief moment as Buffy thinking another guy was Angel. I like Xander in this episode more than any previous episode. I don't think Buffy was portrayed as Stupid in this episode, as Marketa believes. I think she was portrayed as struggling with the transition. It's why Sunday kept scoffing about "Freshman." She and her group only goes after those that do struggle with that.
I can't believe that the Normies are already on season four! Congrats on making it through Freshman week (shame the same can't be said for poor Eddie).
I lived off campus sophomore year, and our house was mostly rugby players. We had a Halloween party that was out of control, I was bartending since I was the only one underage and my roommates thought I'd be responsible. I got so wasted and high that I was resting my arm on a ceramic skull with a candle in it - still got the third degree burn scar decades later.
Angel reactions make a big impact on Buffy reactions in upcoming seasons, and vise versa. So, if you are not going to post Angel on RUclips, you should expect to lose some viewers. There are many other good reactors currently available on RUclips that do both Buffy and Angel (to be honest, I don't remember a single reactor that skipped on Angel reactions). You have 683 THOUSAND subscribers and average viewing of 17 thousand. Surely you can afford a 10 minute Angel reaction once a week.
I'm sad they didn't keep with the possibly original plan of having Sunday as recurring / big bad, and explore the storyline of her being a slaypire. I get we had 2 seasons of big bad vamps, but would have been an interesting look at what happens if a slayer turns as well as more lore on a previous slayer
They really should get the DVDs and watch in original 4:3 ratio as was intended by the creator for the whole series. Buffy HD widescreen formatting was terrible and the coloring and editing is totally off. Get the original if you can please 😊
I remember every time I asked where something was, people would respond "Oh that's just next to the Havre building." And I'd be like, "I don't know what that is." And they'd laugh, "I'm sorry, it's right next to the Osmond offices." And I'd just nod and never figure out where I had to go.
UC Sunnydale..it’s not a community college..and, the campus in this first episode is actually Stanford, I think..(maybe another big university..) Later when they build some sets, they even imitate those wall tiles by printing them out on paper and sticking them on directly..
It's University of Southern California. Most of the fancy indoor bits are the philosophy building. Edit: after some googling, turns out in general it was filmed at USC, UCLA and UC Northridge. Definitely USC philosophy building in those scenes though.
Fun tidbit about this episode: Allegedly in original drafts of the season/this episode, Sunday was supposed to be a Slayer turned Vampire and have a few episode run...

Though a lot of people don't fully like season 4.. prepare for the funniest season of Buffy 😂. There are a ton of great standalone episodes.
This season aged well and like season 3 a lot of humor and great fights
90s: Nirvana, Fugazi, Wu-tang Clan, Battle of Seattle
2010s: Adult Swifties, Spotify, personal brand on insta.
(simplifying for a joke, but also, 90s represent)
Sunday reminded me a lot of Darlene from Roseanne, which Joss previously wrote for.
Mark 29:50. Oh, what a coincidence! My roommate Richard Allen Metzeger was a pharmacology major and in the army national guard. We were both 19. I was an art major, thanks to the "Pell Grant" and other forms of financial aid such a as, "Work-Study". 😎
Geology 101 was known as Rock for Jocks at OSU when I went there 😂
Mark 0:00. As previously posted, Millennium 3 AD didn't begin until 2001 AD. 2000 AD was the final year of Millennium 2 AD. You can tell that it is so because it has the "2" in it that the Millennium gets its name from! 😎
i'd pay to have edited versions of Angel
Dont forget you guys need to start Angel at the same time as Buffy season 4!
They already covered that at the intro of the previous episode.
@@jp3813 Awesome, I'm a few episodes behind. I saw this one pop up in my feed and just wanted to remind them
Mark 31:06.
Are you guys reacting to Angel?
They are,, but not here. It's Pay-per-view.
This is UC Sunnydale. it's not Stanford, but it is a top university.
I'm so glad that we had one-person bedrooms at my University. We shared kitchens and bathrooms with four other people, but our rooms were our own. The hall warden had a master key but other than that, only you had the key to your room.
Pedro Pascal in Buffy is up there with 5 times Acadamy Award nominee Amy Adams being a guest in Smallville
Also, I don't want to burst anyone's bubble, but this is still 1999 guys... School year ends in May and college starts in August...
@@Cliohna Yes, but we were hoping no-one would mention this because, you know, spoilers...
@@Cliohna I actually didn't know that. I watched Buffy and Smallville when they were originally airing and I was like 12. So most of my trivia knowledge comes from podcasts and similar.
Have to say though, lost my shit back in the day when James Masters, Spike himself showed up in Smallville
@@cerrobueno Crap, you are right. Just deleted it.
@@fedwyn
Yeah, like Pedro she is also in S4 of Buffy.
I actually stopped watching Smallville before he was in Smallville. ^^
going home during your freshman year with your parent not knowing is just like that 18:10
The first episode's college scenes were filmed at UCLA.
It's not community college! 😂😂😂
Mark 37:39. Oh! I thought I saw a cat behind Chris, and I wanted to see it again, but instead, it was a fist! 😁
I can't believe that the Normies are already on season four! Congrats on making it through Freshman week (shame the same can't be said for poor Eddie).
29:00 When he said Oncourse I flinched so hard I hurt something. We used it at IU Bloomington as well.
That's not real
10:38 ive been waiting for this moment for weeks!
They really should get the DVDs and watch in original 4:3 ratio as was intended by the creator for the whole series. Buffy HD widescreen formatting was terrible and the coloring and editing is totally off. Get the original if you can please 😊
Yeah, the Fox remaster just destroyed so much of the show color-wise, and the 16x9 has so many mistakes and bad framing.
They're not necessarily watching the HD version, they could be watching the European dvds
ips, which also ran in widescreen from season 4 onward.
Marketa just chillin' waitin' for the guys to quit messin' around and get started...
You know how you guys were asking how much people know. This season answers alot of that.
The reaction to Pedro Pascall was great 😂
33:00 I learned about the duck tape thing from watching Ginny & Georgia.
@@nescirian yeah, I knew it wasn’t right when I wrote it..I couldn’t remember..I was only 50/50 on it.
Fun tidbit about this episode: Allegedly in original drafts of the season/this episode, Sunday was supposed to be a Slayer turned Vampire and have a few episode run...
At the very least the crossovers and the considered favorites episodes of angel should be on RUclips.
i looove season 4! So excited for this.
when pedro stared getting famous i would point out Its Eddie from Buffy season 4 :P
UC Sunnydale isn't a community college, it's a made up branch campus of UC Berkeley.
it's just a UC school like all the others in California.
Eddie is honestly my favourite character in this whole franchise to be introduced then killed. He’s so sweet and I actually wanted him and Buffy to hook up 🤣
Hey guys i have to say i was really not expecting their to not be any angel reactions on youtube. Does this mean you guys do a short discussion in the uncuts. Or is their no discussion.
