    Part 2: • Part 2: How Bengaluru ...
In today’s video, we explore how Bengaluru became India’s Silicon Valley
00:00 Foundation of Bengaluru as Gandubhūmi or Land of Heroes
00:27 Jamsetji Tata’s dream to set up a world class university
02:45 Role of HAL and ISRO in building Bengaluru as the hub of innovation
04:54 Ram Krishna Baliga and India’s Silicon Valley - India’s first electronic city
    07:58 Infosys comes to Bengaluru
11:01 More IT companies and more tech talent flocks to Bengaluru
Foundation of Bengaluru as Gandubhūmi or Land of Heroes: Kempe Gowda, a chieftain of the Vijayanagara Empire in the 16th century, laid the foundation of what we now know today as the city of Bengaluru, although at the time, it was called gandubhūmi or Land of Heroes. The chieftain, of course, had no idea how fitting this name would prove to be nearly half a millennium later.
Jamsetji Tata’s dream to set up a world-class university: Jamsetji Tata, the founder of Tata group wanted to set up a world-class university in Mumbai but then Viceroy of India Lord Curzon chose Bengaluru to be the right place for this university. But Jamsetji Tata passed away before he could see IISc open in Bengaluru.
Role of HAL and ISRO in building Bengaluru as the hub of innovation: IISc played a pivotal role in attracting talent in and around Bengaluru which lead to the formation of HAL - India’s first aerospace company and ISRO being set up in Bengaluru in the 20th century. This helped develop Bengaluru into the manufacturing hub of the country and a hotbed for innovation.
Ram Krishna Baliga and India’s Silicon Valley - India’s first electronic city: A student of IISc named Ram Krishna Baliga was busy developing residential colonies for BEL when he realised that Bengaluru was the perfect place to set up India’s own electronics manufacturing hub - it had everything talent, innovation and a thriving manufacturing ecosystem. So, he started building India’s first Electronic City in Bengaluru - all but cementing Bengaluru’s place as the innovation hub of the country.
Infosys comes to Bengaluru: Until now, most of the projects and companies were driven by the government and focused on the manufacturing sector but soon Infosys became one of India’s first IT companies to set up its headquarter in Bengaluru and with the success of Infosys, more and more companies like Wipro and TCS decided to set up shop in Bengaluru to access quality talent and its thriving ecosystem.
More IT companies and more tech talent flocks to Bengaluru: Once India’s economy was liberalised in 1991, not just domestic IT companies but international tech giants like Texas Instruments, IBM, Sun Microsystems, and Intel flocked to Bengaluru - bringing with them more talent and laying the foundations of Bengaluru as the Silicon Valley of India.

I think this could have been multi part series. For example, how Bangalore was majorly in BPO or in some cases services. Until 2010, TCs, infosys was majorly supporting the software. Microsoft, Amazon etc used to give support work to India as India fitted that 24 hr cycle of support. But then Flipkart happened(And i'm sure many more other startups).
Once these engineers(not just founders) started going out and applying these practices/knowledge in other startups or companies, opportunities jumped and salaries went insane.
I still remember, Amazon didn't have much SDE3 in India in 2014(One I knew had a salary of 36L in 2014 which was a big deal). Today, Amazon pays 1.2 Cr to SDE3.
Products are not just made for Indian market, they are designed and built from scratch in India.

Situation was pretty terrible pre Indian startups.

I am an average IT engineer and by no means consider self as an excellent engineer. But I am great with troubleshooting issues and now manage 5 Brits and Irish guys. They revert to me when they cannot solve issues. This is a great achievement for me considering my grandpa slaved under British raj and I used to have panic attack when I had to speak with people from USA and UK at the beginning of my career.

Wodeyar built a lot of industries, colleges from engineering to law to medical. He also built multiple advanced hospital in the city. Impressed by the ecosystem in 1900s the city had offered to the students, industrialist and intellectuals, Mr Tata and other industrialists chose Bangalore as the Place to Prosper.

lndia's IT companies are extremely weak and uncompetitive. Both their hardware and software markets are dominated by Chinese.
Chinese phones take up 90% of lndian market share. And Chinese software is even more dominant in lndian App stores. Their gov has to ban Chinese software like "tiktok", "pubg" etc by violating freedom of speech. lol
lndia has infosys, TCS only bcz they can speak good English. But the quality of their hardware and software suck big time. General motors and Ford learnt good lessons and they all quit lndia.

At 2:00 India being the educational, financial and spiritual powerhouse for thousands of years being subject to a millennium of humiliation by foreign forces always made sure we look poor and uneducated whereas they stole calculus, the concept of gravity and astronomy from us along with a hefty $45 trillion and make it look like as if they have been overly qualified in every aspect. Yep, hope you could hear the irony and sarcasm in my voice while discussing that part Karthik. Was disgusted while researching - the haughtiness of George Curzon and the British Raj was unbelievable. Didn't mention this as it sort of disturbed the narrative flow, but I don't think the Scottish scientist that they brought in had ever been to India prior. He had no business deciding the location of IISc, and while I am glad that he chose Bengaluru, it should have been in the hands of Jamsetji Tata, not William Ramsay. The fact that Jamsetji Tata had to come and ask George Curzon's permission is so backwards and unfortunate. The amount of injustice is unpalatable. -Caleb

Yes, we actually have a list of video topics which we have gotten requests for from our audience. So usually when you see a video posted here (besides the weekly news video), the idea has come from that list only 🙂 so you may actually be the reason, in part at least, that we made this video Rolls Royce! You've certainly been with us long enough for your opinion and input to impact our content. Thanks for always showing up, watching our videos, and commenting 🙂 means a lot to me and the rest of the team! -Caleb

Spot ON and Excellent analysis by your team. Just one key figure is missed in this episode, S M Krishna (Former Chief Minister of Karnataka) who brought in the concepts of SEZ (Special economic zones ) which allowed the foreign companies to make and setup the business easy and at affordable (giving tax exemptions) , thus inviting many companies and whole of India's tech folks migrating to Bengaluru city.

This was so informative and fun to watch it just blew my mind. The script was very well written it felt like I'm watching the beginning of a movie 🍿, I also liked the background music that u used, fun fact; if u speed up the video by 1.25x speed at 11:56 u can listen to a dope track. Yes I would like to see the part 2 of this video and it might be interesting to make video on wipro and TCS and also Infosys and many other companies journey from beginning till now. Thank you.
