When I was a student in the early 90's, before falling asleep, I used to lie down in my bed with my finger on the TV on/off button and listen to MTV Headbangers' Ball. I was drowsy and almost ready to push the button when this tracked was aired. After a short while I was up and waiting for the track to end so that I could get the artist and song title on a piece paper. The next day I had the CD in my player....
How romantic.... Old days Story! I did almost the same. Nowdays, with the internet and the easy ways of taking information, It seems like everything has lost taste...
I think I still have the *cassette tape* of this album somewhere. I used to crank it all the time in my 1992 Corolla. This record literally changed my life forever.
Amen, to all of the comments! When they parted ways with Portnoy it really pegged the needle on the this-sucks-o-meter. Mike Mangini is a gentlemen’s gentleman, but he’s not Portnoy. Truly one of the most epic and unique ProgRock groups out there and perhaps will ever be...
This band had only one problem: John Petrucci and John Myung should have known that they needed to keep Kevin Moore. The three of them were unstoppable. They should have realized to keep him was worth more than anything else. Oh, well.
Lyrics Just let me catch my breath I've heard the promises I've seen the mistakes I've had my fair share of tough breaks I need a new voice, a new law, a new way Take the time, reevaluate It's time to pick up the pieces Go back to square one I think it's time for a change There is something that I feel To be something that is real I feel the heat within my mind And craft new changes with my eyes Giving freely wandering promises A place with decisions I'll fashion I won't waste another breath You can feel the waves coming on (It's time to take the time) Let them destroy you or carry you on (It's time to take the time) You're fighting the weight of the world But no one can save you this time Close your eyes You can find all you need in your mind The unbroken spirit obscured and disquiet Finds clearness this trial demands And at the end of this day sighs an anxious relief For the fortune lies still in his hands If there's a pensive fear, a wasted year A man must learn to cope If his obsession's real Suppression that he feels must turn to hope Life is no more assuring than love (It's time to take the time) There are no answers from voices above (It's time to take the time) You're fighting the weight of the world And no one can save you this time Close your eyes You can find all you need in your mind I close my eyes And feel the water rise around me Drown the beat of time Let my senses fall away I can see much clearer now I'm blind You can feel the waves coming on (It's time to take the time) Let them destroy you or carry you on (It's time to take the time) You're fighting the weight of the world But no one can save you this time Close your eyes You can find all you need in your mind Find all you need in your mind If you take the time Find all you need in your mind If you take the time
Its cheesy, yeah. But somehow I miss when prog metal could have major modes and good vibes. Word and Images and Vai's Sex and Religion will remain some of my favorite albums for life.
Why are people so confused about the prog sections being cut out? Its designed to be played on MTV as a hit single which would have helped the band commercially. Their audience isn't used to listening to progressive masterpieces which are double the length of a typical song.
55 years old and I remember a friend of mine turning me onto this album.. and still after 30+ years I still listen to this album.. pure masterpiece.. 100% underrated... IMO top 20 albums of all time
Images and Words, the entire album, is a masterpiece from so many aspects, it's still relevant and awesome to this day and probably for the next 50 or more years (providing the human race will still be here)
Oh god. Such a great time they used to have... And I really hope they will still have good time at their next album with the new drummer. MIKE!!! Thank you for your great gift of being such an amazing drummer in such an amazing band. We love you and we hope that you will keep up rocking at the rest of your way! GO PORTNOY!!!!
Wow! I have only started listening to Dream Theater for about 5 years or so. This old school song is awesome! Blew me away even still, with there cheesy 80's look.
Dream Theater, you’re the best of the best!! Magnificent song and masterfully performed by one of the best metal singers of all time: the great James LaBrie, . !! 🎼🎙✌️🤘DT 4EVER
Logan Hiatt He wasn’t the sound of dream theater though. He turned them into a classical and theatrical influence rather than a surreal jazz influence. Personally I think it was a step in the wrong direction

As amazing as they are (and obviously I realise they are amazing no matter who fronts) but seriously my ex is Conservatorium grade and he still struggles to this day to find a vocalist who can cut it!
Kind of ironic that they cut 3 minutes from a song called Take the Time

Everlasting masterpiece.
dude, Jorden Rudess wasn't even in Dream Theater at that time, that's Kevin Moore who now plays in some small confined German bar.
What heppened 3:19 ? The album version is just so much better
5:10
@Xanadu1115 LOL, cut DOWN to ~6 minutes.
... they cut out 3 minutes
they were the best parts
It's single version,so people will buy the album for full one
The best ones? Idk, seems like the three most disposble minutes to me
@@maxkolbl1527 The best bass part of the song was cut out. :(
Max Kölbl it might seem like that, but to me the song feels clipped and incomplete without them.
There are no "disposable minutes" in good music and this is great music, so there!
Damn edit. Stupid consumers and their low attention spans. They can watch a full-length movie, yet they can't listen to a good full eight-minute song.
Yeah, it's ridiculous how people can be turned off of a song purely based on the length.
Not just good it's a masterpiece

Probably the most talented musicians ever in one band!! Never get enough credit!!!

James: No.

Lyrics
Just let me catch my breath
I've heard the promises
I've seen the mistakes
I've had my fair share of tough breaks
I need a new voice, a new law, a new way
Take the time, reevaluate
It's time to pick up the pieces
Go back to square one
I think it's time for a change
There is something that I feel
To be something that is real
I feel the heat within my mind
And craft new changes with my eyes
Giving freely wandering promises
A place with decisions I'll fashion
I won't waste another breath
You can feel the waves coming on
(It's time to take the time)
Let them destroy you or carry you on
(It's time to take the time)
You're fighting the weight of the world
But no one can save you this time
Close your eyes
You can find all you need in your mind
The unbroken spirit obscured and disquiet
Finds clearness this trial demands
And at the end of this day sighs an anxious relief
For the fortune lies still in his hands
If there's a pensive fear, a wasted year
A man must learn to cope
If his obsession's real
Suppression that he feels must turn to hope
Life is no more assuring than love
(It's time to take the time)
There are no answers from voices above
(It's time to take the time)
You're fighting the weight of the world
And no one can save you this time
Close your eyes
You can find all you need in your mind
I close my eyes
And feel the water rise around me
Drown the beat of time
Let my senses fall away
I can see much clearer now I'm blind
You can feel the waves coming on
(It's time to take the time)
Let them destroy you or carry you on
(It's time to take the time)
You're fighting the weight of the world
But no one can save you this time
Close your eyes
You can find all you need in your mind
Find all you need in your mind
If you take the time
Find all you need in your mind
If you take the time

James Labrie is the only person they could have discovered to fill the role of Dream Theater lead singer. Same with Mike Mangini on drums.
