FACT: ALL Rappers used "Samples" in their songs while the copyright laws were still a gray area. They updated the music copyright laws once Rap started selling huge numbers and crossing into the mainstream Pop Charts. This song still holds up when you consider how much technology has changed! After a while he just started getting a lot of hate. I've seen that happen to a few entertainers. It's happening to JLo right now, huge to hated. The band Nickleback also, huge then hated. I can certainly see why this song got hung up on the copyright approval list given its history as per its use of sampling. If the screenshot is any indication, it sure seems like the guys had a bit of fun with this one as was hopefully the case considering the number of other hip-hop/rap "one hit wonders" from that era which could have been chosen. #TooColdTooCold 😂

"If there's a problem, yo, I'll solve it." - that was the attitude coming from the 80s that still was here. Most of the time these days people just complain about how tough things are for them (no thought to solving any difficulty for themselves or living with it the way other people do.)
This is one of the only rap songs I have ever liked. "U Can't Touch This" - MC Hammer is the only other pure rap song I have ever liked. There were a few at the beginning of the 90s that combined actual singing with rap sections that were good.
With there being SO MANY SONGS OUT THERE - from SO MANY GENRES & SO MANY, MANY DECADES - WHY would you EVER cover songs you already know! Keep exploring ones you DON'T KNOW - I guarantee you there are plenty!

That old school approach where they'll say a lot of words, pause for a couple of beats, and then all loudly say a word, or he says his words, drops out and let's the backers yell out a word together, is just so odd. Definitely places this in a specific time.

Still, he (Rob Van Winkle) will forever be known as the guy that was handed a pen while upside down over a balcony in a hotel by Suge Knight founder of ^Death row records^ asking him to sign over the rights to "Ice Ice Baby" Allegedly 🤣

Thanks for the post, Dean. Despite the light sarcasm in my previous message, there's no doubt about the non-music success that Rob Van Winkle (AKA-"Vanilla Ice") has been a part of over the years. He's clearly a smart guy as he's used people's pop culture/music knowledge of him to appear on a lot of different TV shows and projects over the years. He also appears to do a real good job of separating the "Vanilla Ice" persona from his past to the person that he wants to present himself to be today. So while I may not be an aficionado of this song or the culture it helped promote at the time, I do acknowledge and recognize that the artist is far more than just the song or attitude in this case and that's very redeemable. Thanks again for the post.

    • @user-lq4qe7pj9s

In music industry publication standards Rolling Stone and Billboard, it has been previously reported that the bassline for Queen's "Another One Bites The Dust" was allegedly "inspired" by "Good Times" from Chic. Bernard Edwards, Chic's co-founder and legendary bass player, said in an interview, "That Queen record ("Another One Bites The Dust") came about because that Queen bass player (John Deacon)...spent some time hanging out with us in our studio." For anyone interested, there are many comparison and "mash up" videos on RUclips (which I was not able to link without having this message not get posted) for people to decide for themselves. Just type "Good Times" and "Another One Bites The Dust" in the search box. I hope it may help.

@@karenj3611 Thanks for the reply, Karen. It's important to point out the initial response was that it was "not even close" that Queen may have copied "Good Times" for "Another One Bites The Dust," yet now it is a matter of "apples and oranges" regarding "inspiration." Anyone interested in this topic should listen to the mashups on RUclips. To my untrained ears, it sounds as if just about EVERYTHING with "Another One Bites The Dust" fits as if they were puzzle pieces inside "Good Times." Even if this were true, we can agree that Queen was not treated properly as it pertains to "Under Pressure" and Vanilla Ice. It is just important to note that even some of the best bands and artists in the world are "influenced" by other groups and artists. Thanks again for the response and the communication on this topic.
