The creative force behind The Mystic Knights of Oingo Boingo is Danny Elfman and was formed in the early 70s as a street theater troupe. They went on the Gong Show and won the episode in which they appeared. Later, they shortened their name to Oingo Boingo. Their music is eclectic, to say the least. Later, Elfman became a very prolific movie composer and has been nominated for several Oscars.

Oingo Boingo was once considered the ultimate cool band(in the 80s) They have a huge rabbit hole. Some songs by them are "Grey Matter, Little girls, Only a Lad, Nothing bad ever happens to me, We close our eyes + others.(sorry my old self(54) is having trouble remembering some of their songs....😁 This used to be a huge Halloween song back in the day

The lead singer is Danny Elfman, who since leaving the band has been the primary composer for director Tim Burton's films. He has been nominated for Oscars for his composing and won Emmys as well. He composed the theme for 'The Simpsons', and 'Batman' (his scores for 'Batman' and 'Batman Returns' have been featured in Batman games and cartoons as well...). He also composed the music and the songs for 'Nightmare Before Christmas' as well as being the singing voice of Jack Skellington in the film.
I kinda wish you had watched one of the videos where you see the band...they are so entertaining with their dance moves during the music breaks.
One of my favorite shoutouts of the song is in the novel 'Ready Player One' by Ernest Cline where it pops up in a funeral scene of an ultra-rich tech billionaire who posts his video at the beginning to announce a contest where the winner will win his control over a virtual reality world everyone uses called 'The OASIS'. I wish it also appeared in the movie version directed by Steven Spielberg...but it didn't. Great book, great movie!
Definitely do "Weird Science" the title song from the John Hughes comedy.

"Dead Man's Party" is a Halloween classic! Always got this one in HEAVY rotation every October. These guys will always be the ultimate "fun 80's band" to me (rivaled only by maybe The B-52's). Just impossible to be in a bad mood after listening to some Oingo Boingo. Always loved how they blended so many different genres together, and they had one of the best horn sections around. The musical genius behind this group is the lead singer Danny Elfman who wrote and composed all their songs. Elfman would go on to become a very prolific composer of film and TV scores. He's composed the score for pretty much every Tim Burton movie as well as the Sam Raimi "Spider-Man" movies and a ton of other films. Oh yeah, he also composed the theme songs for "The Simpsons" and "Tales from the Crypt". AND he was the singing voice of Jack Skellington in "The Nightmare Before Christmas". Some other great Oingo Boingo songs to check out: "Weird Science", "Little Girls", "Private Life", "Not My Slave", "Only a Lad", "Out of Control", "Nothing Bad Ever Happens to Me", "Gray Matter", "Stay"

Oingo Boingo is an 80's staple along with the B52's and DEVO. Yes, creepy, "off", funky, dark but happy at the same time, and just weird... that's Oingo Boingo! "Nothing Bad Ever Happens To Me" is actually a bit of deep philosophy and worth a listen.
I miss the 80's, it was such a more optimistic and colorful time.

It's funny but the complicated rhythms and interesting backing instruments reminds me of Johnny Clegg and his various backing bands e.g Jaluka - December African Rain (ruclips.net/video/7rfq9IatUEE/видео.html ). The only time I would ever get up enough nerve to actually join the party and dance was when Oingo Boingo was played. There was something about that beat that I found nearly irresistible. I even had a girl friend that was also shy but also shared my attraction to this band's music, so she and I would always find each other when the music started and just basically bounce around on the dance floor.

My favorite Oingo Boingo song because of that bass! The perfect Halloween song and mixes so well with any Tim Burton animated movie. Such a danceable song!
The production of this song! It's no wonder Danny Elfman writes movie soundtracks as well!

They were orchestral. They melded punk, pop, disco, funk, and anything else they could use to make an interesting song. I loved this band despite them being a bit too pop because they were just flat out brilliant. It didn't surprise me that he went on to be a brilliant composer for movies and, of course, the theme song for The Simpsons.

I enjoy how macabre this is; it gets played in October for Halloween time in my house. Danny Elfman had really good range with his deep lows and strong highs; he's got some hefty pipes there. I also enjoyed his singing in "The Nightmare Before Christmas" (actor Chris Sarandon, the sexy vampire in "Fright Night" from '85, was the speaking voice for Jack Skellington, if memory serves).

Trivia Fact: The frontman for Oingo Boingo was Danny Elfman. He was told in the late '80s that he had inoperable throat problems, which would only get worse if he kept singing. So, he switched careers, and is now an accomplished film composer.

You guys made the right choice in deciding to give Oingo Boingo another chance! I've been a fan since 1983, when they were still pretty much a "locals only" band, playing Southern California shows at bars, county fairs, and Magic Mountain, in Valencia. Their happy, bouncy, eclectic sound, along with their dark, twisted, and thought- provoking lyrics soon brought their fame to a national and international level. The band broke up in 1995, when singer Danny Elfman's film composing started taking up most of his time. Elfman, has scored most of Tim Burton's films, some of the Spider-man movies, and lots more movies. Oingo Boingo songs with music videos include "Private Life", " Nothing Bad Happens To Me", "Stay", " Weird Science", "Out of Control", and "Insanity".

It's based in New Orleans funeral music. It's the idea of a party for the dead person.
The whole song is sung by the newly dead individual talking about the steps of being dead and buried and going to a funeral and then passing on to the next life. All presented as a happy, dance party.

Did you guys know that Danny Elfman (Oingo Boingo lead singer) is the singing voice for Jack Skellington in "A Nightmare Before Christmas?" He is also an accomplished film score composer with the following theme songs under his belt: Batman (1989), Edward Scissorhands, Mission Impossible, Men in Black, Spiderman (2002), Dark Shadows film, Beetlejuice, Alice in Wonderland, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, Sleepy Hollow, and many more. This song is from the movie "Back to School" where they perform it during a Halloween house party. One of the other members assisted in the production of the song "A Little Piece of Heaven" by Avenged Sevenfold...can't remember if you've done any of their songs but its best not to be introduced to them with this particular video. You will definitely have to be eased into it. But you will love them.

Clicked the Like button before I even watched the reaction. How could I not for my favorite band, as a Southern California kid from the '80s. Eclectic is a good term. Their sound evolved over time. A mix of rock, new wave, punk, ska and other influences. Great in concert. Much of their earlier stuff will have you doing double takes on the lyrics as they were definitely nor your norm.
