Once I take the recoil starter off, mine has a black piece above the starter pawl. Do I have to take that off first before trying to remove starter pawl?
Clayton Brown yes. There should be a slot in the rotor that the string raps around. Pull some slack in the rope and put it in the groove. Then put about 2 rounds of tension on it by windings he rotor by hand, wile holding the string in the slot.
I have the SS 470...different design. I cant remember if my springy thingys lay flat or not...im just gonna replace it becaue I cant get it to work at all.
Hey Lest..i went and got the Cub Cadet BC 280......i talked with the Stihl dealer..and they told me ..the Stihls only use their proprietory attachments....pardon my spelling.....I pick mine up at Tractor Supply ..it came with a string attachment unlike the one I had on my other trimmer..where i had to bump the head to feed it..which i didnt mind.....also it came with a brush cutter attachment....i hope i get just as much time out of it as my very first Cub Cadet.....thanks again...
right on, this trimmer came with a synthetic oil to mix with 1 gallon of gas...blue in color...i fueled the trimmer just now, she started up the 1st time with 4 pulls ..the bumper head from my old one fit on there...i didnt powered it up yet....shouldnt be any problems..funny..when i poured the fuel /oil mixture..i was saying to myself..why is this fuel mix clear in color...then it dawned on me..that the synthetic oil was a clear like blue in color...i took time to read the manual some...when the winter comes for long term storage..I plan on following their instructions ..on emptying the fuel out, letting the trimmer run dry, then take out the spark plug and drop in some oil in combustion chamber..
Agree with comments on nixing the music. I like the video but seems like there is a lot there that you skipped through because you're well experienced.
My Cub cadet...starter just broke..after 11 years of ownership, ...its a 2 piece EZ link shaft..and the Knob to detach it...well, one of my sons lost it ..while cutting grass...looked all over....and now I'm stuck with a 11 year old..trimmer with issuers...debating..whether if i should pay the $45-50 for the parts to replace it..or just spend $150 on a new one.....I'm hearing horror stories on reviews of other trimmers...even the new Husqvarnas...having plastic inside of their start pull string assembly..i like the Stihl trimmers but they dont offer the detachable shaft..I need that ability , because i have a Tiller attachment that attaches to my trimmer...so when the wife is ready to do her yearly tilling the garden..its a small piece of garden..15 ft x 25 ft.
I see..theres a STIHL DEALERSHIP ..2 towns south from where iI live...whats the price if you will for the least expensive KM series trimmer that will accept a roto tiller , and other attachments..thank you kindly.
The engine noise drowning out that radio was the part. If you are going to instruct do it in a professional manor another words turn off the D--n radio
Instead of replacing this part (Pawl Assembly) you can drill a small hole where the nub was and then insert a paper clip and use part of that paper clip for the nub. I glued mine in the hole and it's been working fine.
I did exactly what you did and the recoil still sticks. Very frustrating.
The fans weren't the noise problem. I do appreciate your time in doing the video

Derahjei Taylor not sure. What model is it?
BC280
I have the exact same problem did you ever figure out how to remove it.
How do you remove that piece without it spinning? Where do you get replacement?
Remove the spark plug and insert a piece of rope in the cylinder to jam the piston. Ebay
@@lesteroliveintheshop9825 What is the name of this part you ordered have the same problem thanks
Starter assembly

Hi, could you give me the part number of that part you placed? My recoil unit works well so I'm guessing it's the part you replaced that's bad. Thanks
No appreciation for good rock and roll!
Good taste in music. Slight difference from my cub but video helped.
My pull string broke, fixed it, but can't get housing back on without losing all tension on pull string. Can it be tightened after reassembling
Clayton Brown yes. There should be a slot in the rotor that the string raps around. Pull some slack in the rope and put it in the groove. Then put about 2 rounds of tension on it by windings he rotor by hand, wile holding the string in the slot.

@@erockscott1184 any luck? Replaced my pull rope assembly but same problem, doesn't wind up like it should. Let someone borrow it once...
@Clayton Brown not yet...haven't bought one but I know there is another part shown here that should be replaced as well. Maybe the whole assy.

Showemright YTchannel good luck. Quality mixing oil and clean fuel make all the difference.

I appreciate the feedback. I agree with you. I have definitely learned a lot more about videoing and presentation since the days of this video
If you watch some of my more recent videos, I think you’ll agree.
I have the same problem
Thanks for sharing

Great job, nix the music, does nothing for the repair. lol

What with the music ? I want hear instructions , otherwise good vid
Your radio too loud it would been better if you didn't have all that noise
Cut out the background noise so someone can hear you
You have a lot of noise going on cannot hear you
Back ground too loud to hear you
Turn off the radio.
Too much excess noise
Chad Lasher I agree, I no longer turn the radio on in videos
Music too loud, can't even understand what you are saying
white table makes for bad photography against black objects!!
Music in a repair clip sucks.
english translation sucks!!
