He basically did describe it anyway. Just hold it in place with a screwdriver, put the cord in and tie and then when you remove the screwdriver it'd pull in the cord winding it in.

Hey, Steve. Thank you. My hubby is so busy, our push mower is at the bottom of his to-do list. I do what I can to reduce his list, and one of those is fixing/replacing the pull cord I broke. He got me a new cord, but no time to get to it. Now I'm off to do this and mow the back yard. Fingers crossed I do this right.

    Hi. Steve.
Just a quick add on. These always break at absolutely the wrong time! Mine was just before last years U.S. F1 grandprix! I couldn't get a rope, and mine had snapped right in the middle. As an emergency measure, I used a double length of paracord, it worked well, it got the mover started until Ebay brought my new one.
    FYI
Thanks to your tutorials, I stripped, cleaned and rebuilt 2 honda cards, adjusted the governor on one mower and adjusted the valve clearances!
    Great videos my friend.
    Stay safe.

Great tip/hack there buddy. Subscribed :) Question: The wife was running the mower (older B&S Classic 35). Tank and carb fell off. Bolts vibrated loose. I put it back together again, but it won't run. At best it fires a bit out of the air intake. I can't figure out what the hell is wrong. Any ideas? If there's supposed to be a rubber O-ring on the carb sealing the carb and intake stud, then she lost it.

My neighbour went away gold prospecting for three weeks and he gave me his mulcher Briggs Stratton and he pulled it a few times and it barely started for him.... And so next day I gave it a few pulls and it gave a couple of coughs before stopping and next pull broke the start cord.... Love your videos... Neat trick to pull the cord through an extra foot and then knot it.

Dude, I've been working in the yard all day, in the hot sun.
Just had a nice cold beer, trying to figure out if I bring my mower into the repair shop or.... do I try and fix this myself...
I"m not even sure if my model is similar to the ones you showed, but I'm just about to open her up. find out and fix it myself !!!
Hope my like and comment helped you out!
    Great video, thank you!

Thank you, Steve! The pull cord on my snow blower has broken twice at the knot and I used the screwdriver method to hold it in place. The problem with doing it that way is the tension on the cord is always a little looser than I'd like. Your method restores the cord tension the way it came from the factory.

You saved me in a tight spot. I broke my pressure washer pull cord right before I had 2 customers' cars to detail. I had mine back up and running within an hour. Thanks so much.

I tried your method on a starter which didn't have a place to put the screwdriver through as you mentioned, it worked very well. Thank you!

Thank you Steve, Here in the UK with an old Qualcast 32, either can't get the parts or Costa Fortuna - do it yourself - without screwing up the spring....worked a treat!!
