This 75-300 lens basically came for free with my Canon Rebel XS back in 2009. Amazed they're still selling it

Great rant. For the money, to me, this is a very good basic lens. It allows one to master the basics of photography and even, because of its negative qualities, learns one to negoitiate lighting problems that higher end lenses are much much less affected by. It's a perfectly usable lens for beginner to proffessionnal. Are there better lenses? Yes of course, but at a cost. More expensive, heavier weight, more electronics which could go wonky, etc. Even with a 10K setup, you are going to have bad photos. Even the top most renowned photographers have bad photos. It's the good photos that count, and with this lens you can take good and even amazing photos.

I take this lens and a cheap 2x teleconverter (and an ef-rf converter) with me on vacations and made some pretty darn good and sharp photos but it takes a bit of practice and knowing what settings work best with it etc

I’ve taken beautiful photos with this thing. If you don’t have a telephoto lens in this range, there’s no reason to ignore it. I’ve seen it for $40 on Facebook marketplace.
For something so cheap, have fun and learn with it. It’s good enough.

I liked your video but... there are several different versions. You don't say what version in the opening of video, I owned the original 75 - 300 IS lens, the first Canon lens with IS.

From my understanding, that would be the 70-300 with image stabilisation

On the subject of weather sealing, would fitting a plastic rain cover over the lens and camera mostly solve the issues? Bought the 2000D with the 18-50mm and this lens separately but it looks like the event I'm going to next is going to be rain soaked.

Yes getting a cover that securely fastens around the edge will stop any water damage, assuming it is used correctly 👍

you need ef-eos R adapter to be used on a mirrorless camera like the r50.

Actually it makes sense 🤣 I got it second hand and went to photography some birds and JESUS! I had some daylight and still got it dark but the photo I got of the moon 🌙 is the sharpest 🤣🤣 and it is in fact shaky even with the auto focus, I even tried not to breath 🤣🤣🤣 I should have seen this review before, thanks I will keep trying to tame this lens

Learning how to use the lens is one of the most rewarding parts of photography, too. Although it may seem like a challenge now, once you know how to work with it, you'll get some fab shots, this lens is able to take fantastic photos :)
