It really is bizarre that Hasbro has had the PR license for 3 years, and we haven't seen any kind of transforming Megazords for collectors. It's obvious money being left on the table for seemingly no reason. Even if they are taking their time to make sure these Megazords come out right (which is what they should be doing), going more than 3 years with nothing still seems a bit excessive.
There is a rumor that a set of the Dino Megazord and Dragonzord is on the way that actually does everything you would want... but is also supposedly gonna run you more than the recent Victory Saber Haslab, which is kinda ridiculous if true. At that point depending on how it ends up looking, people may just stick with the Soul of Chogokin releases.

    • @viraticwars
      @viraticwars 3 года назад +3

There was a Deluxe Dino Megazord that was okay for it's price range. It did everything a Megazord should, but they needed a Titans and Dragon Zord to follow out.

@@viraticwars I am aware of that one, which looked okay for what it was (weird that it had elbows but no real knees), but I'm talking about something more for older fans like what Lightning Collection goes for.
I think what most people want is basically Generations level Megazords. They can transform and combine, but aren't so extremely large or complex to be budget breaking. Probably something around $50-$70 range with Voyager/Leader scale seems feasible. Maybe $80-$100 like Commander Class for bigger Zords.
Surprised there wasn't at least a Dragonzord for that set too. Seems like a super easy sell. Maybe one will show up sometime in the near future but I doubt it.

Just settle with the Super Minipla/Shogakukan Modelling Project if you're okay with some minor building, stickers, and minimal partforming but (surprisingly) sturdy and heavily articulated Megazord figures. Honestly I think that new version of the combining mmpr megazord was the route hasbro should stick with. Obviously working to improve the articulation as they go. Just give us more of the megazords, then down the line (when the articulation is better) you can do another mmpr megazord to get your jollies. The most important thing is that I feel we just need to push through the series for more megazords, not everyone started with mmpr. There's adult collectors nowadays that could have started with Lightspeed Rescue. And how cool would it be to have a shelf full of megazords that are all in the same scale?

Don't forget the Minipla Line, which mixes the toy and show accuracy into legitimately good and posable figures. Granted, Minipla/SMP's are *EXPENSIVE*, but 4 times out of 5 they work to justify their price points better than the current DX mecha. The Current SMP Gaoranger mechs? They're AMAZING! Bandai of Japan seems to know their worth when they invest in making them, while Hasbro...really does not for these types of figures. It's probably put out there in the thought of 'people will buy it because it's cheaper than a full figure'...which was the same problem we were having for the longest time with Bandai of America, in that they truly seemed to ignore everything people told them on how to improve.

I just picked up the Dino Fury Zord series, I really think there's some good ideas there. The T Rex Champion is really well articulated compared to the original, the other zords are kind of small for the price point but they filled the box with extra parts to make up for it. Paint is still lacking, the "keys" are a joke, they don't hinge like the originals and either are stickers without molded detail for the character side or are molded with no paint detail at all. It might help that the combining gimmick for this line is basically Zord Legos, there's almost an unlimited way to combine the pieces, however it looks like for most forms its sticking parts from smaller Zords onto one core figure that kind of makes a lot of combos look same-y. I still would like to see all the different zords get released though, I was bummed they didn't make the last zords from Go Busters for Beast Morphers and no Dragon Zord or Titanus for their small scale MMPR Megazord.

I really wish I had seen the last show's Megazords when they were readily available, because that Beetle-looking thing is really sweet. And then we get the Dino Megazord which is really, really basic but it does everything it's supposed to (individual zords, tank mode, robot mode).
They do know how to make a Megazord at some level. I'm guessing they aren't willing to divert the resources necessary for a full-on Generations line of Zords, and would rather have their Zord team focus on the currently-airing stuff.

No more die-cast!!! Seriously, shit's overrated. Especially when they put it in stupid places that mess with the balance or end up putting too much stress on the joints.
When the news broke that BoA was losing the toy rights to Power Rangers, I was really hoping that Playmates was going to pick it up. They did such an amazing job with the Voltron: Legendary Defender toys. It's such a shame that they only ended up making four combinable Voltrons. I would've loved to have seen them take on Dairugger and Albegas as well as Stealth Voltron and Voltrex from 3rd Dimension. And I would absolutely love it if they make a Voltron Force set. Even if they have to cheat and make multiple molds of each lion for each part they can swap into (black being the body, arm or leg with red and green being arms or bodies and yellow and blue being legs and bodies), I just want a toy of that design somehow. I'll even go overboard and make sure I can make an all black lion Voltron.
But otherwise, it is odd what Hasbro is doing. I got excited when I seen those Megazords until I looked at them. Ninjakon makes sense though as they just did Ninjor. It's just the rest of them don't really make sense. Most companies, even Hasbro themselves, are making larger figures/BaFs and releasing them alongside their main figure lines. It's just odd that they have the prefect thing to do that with and they don't when it comes to Megazord action figures. The large Zeo Megazord was too expensive for what it was. I got one from Hasbrotoyshop on Ebay for $35 and I'm happy with it for that price. For what they were asking for it at retail, it should've done more and looked better. Again, Playmates did it better with their larger non-combining Voltron action figures. That's what Hasbro should've been emulating.
Playmates' Voltron: Legendary Defender toys is what Hasbro should be doing with their Megazords. That's really all there is to it.

the closest thing you can get to accurate transforming Megazords is Bandai's Super Minipla mode-kit line. and those things are *tiny*. they're practically the Legends Scale of Megazords. except they cost $60+ a pop because Bandai is actually out of their marbles.
as for why the recent Megazord toys have been oversimplified garbage seems to be a general trend of Japanese toys made for Western Audiences. it's happening with Bandai's Gundam toys as well, but retailers are hesitant to stock expensive high-quality figures that they aren't sure will sell. this in turn leads toy manufacturers to make cheaper, lousier toys that are more likely to sell to appease retailers. it's just that UNLIKE Bandai's offerings, consumers who want better Super Robo/Megazord don't have an option to pay more for a better toy by going to online retailers.

Honestly, the thing that bugs me with these is pretty simple right off the bat...the box art shows the subject in a pose that is impossible for the figure to replicate. Do they try? Kinda...but honestly, I'm in the same boat as you regarding Hasbro and doing Collector oriented figures in the style of Generations or even Masterpiece. I'm really hoping Hasbro can figure this out as well because the level of untapped potential is painful. Why haven't we seen a Pulse kickstarter for Hasbro's answer to the Soul of Chogokin Dinozord? Why haven't we gottten bulk (2-3 per box) packs of seasonal grunts? It feels like Hasbro is trying to play too safe with the IP and while occasionally we get an awesome risk like the Astronema and Ecliptor 2-pack, or the Psychos (hey Hasbro, where the hell are our individual release Psycho Pink, Yellow, and Black for those who started collecting them before the 5-pack? Or at the very least a Psycho Pink vs. Lost Galaxy Pink set including the Savage Sword? How about the monster forms of the Psychos?), but then they release these figures that while there could be potential in doing them say as high-detail static figures, or as show accurate poseable figures...they instead decided to hit this bad middle ground that doesn't really make anyone happy aside from the random passerby at Walmart looking for a last second holiday gift for a family member. There's some straight up easy sales to be made but they just seem to be too afraid to take the leap and trust the fandom to react.

if Hasbro really want to be competitive with other toymakers releasing Power ranger megazord toys, they need to look at how Bandai make their minipla and smp robots. upscale those to 11" tall, and Hasbro would be having Bandai a run for their money! they can do intricate details for Transformers, they can do it to for PowerRangers!

I imagine minipla is one of the most popular zord toy line, but they are expensive for U.S. customers. They could do something similar but scaled to match the monster figures. So long as it’s easier for U.S. consumers to get their hands on, it could do massively well.

The other major issue they are having is with releasing proper combining megazord toys even in their current lines. It was nigh impossible to complete the Beast-X Megazord during Beast Morphers because the zords were released individually and were never around in stores. I only ever saw the Rabbit and Scarab zords in my local stores. They are running into a similar problem with Dino Fury were the proper DX Megazord STILL isn’t out yet.

I don't care about articulation, paint or any of that stuff, but the dang things just don't hold together! They're so flimsy and don't stay combined at all! On top of that they were so hard to find! I never saw the original Megazord for Retail price and knowing how bad it could be, passed. I'd really like the new Dino Fury ones, but again, they're gonna be impossible to find and it they suck at staying together, what's the point? Anyway, great vid! This feels exactly like Transformers RED. We have no idea who those figures are meant for. The characters are ones that appeal to the old fans. However they lack the paint and quality the line boasted about . These figures sacrificed their altmodes and transformation in exchange for Less accuracy- less paint- less quality- less articulation than the mainline retail releases.

For those people trying to think that Hasbro should be making actual Transforming/Combining Megazords, think about this: Hasbro is still getting its feet wet in the concept of making Power Rangers Toys. They had 3 Years with Power Rangers compared to all the time they were with Transformers. Seriously, the original Transformers Cartoon Started September 17, 1984. That's 37 Years. And look at how Transformers has evolved. Also, consider that the previous time they created Combining Robots, we got Combiner Wars and Power of the Primes. Meaning that they don't want to accidentally tick off Power Rangers Fans with crappy Combining Megazords. They are getting their feet wet, otherwise, they may fail. Also, Consider that the Modern Power Rangers Figures have a lot going for them. With all sorts of weird Gimmicks. So, not only are they not comfortable with combiners after CW and PotP, they've had 3 Years with it. Also, looking at the fact they released a Ninjakon Figure is because they love to bring obscure characters/things and make toys out of them.

you know what I'd do with power rangers. First I'd do a very gentle reboot of the show just to clean up the continuity errors and make it a single show again. Then I'd make full transforming, fully posable megazords with tiny pilot figures. And secretly, I'd make the zords able to combine in non show acurate combinations for... reasons.

I honestly feel Hasbro bought Power Rangers only so they could eliminate a competing transforming and combining toy robot product from the toy aisle and strengthen their Transformers brand by making it the only converting/combining toy robot in retail stores. That explains their neglect of making transforming/combining Zord toys of their own but their continued support of action figures for the Hasbro Power Rangers line.

Now I'm already starting to think hard about it. There are some Megazords that are suited better for the bigger projects such as Serpenterra, Delta Command Megazord, Tor the Shuttle Zord and maybe Titanus or even the Rhino Steel Megazord and Super Train Megazord considering how big they are.
13:15, you're right on that time tbh. At that point, Power Rangers has become popular so they might as well.
I know PLEX's designs were complicated but hey, just like the 1st Megatron Masterpiece, you can ALWAYS start again with a new design after that and you can work your way through it until you hit it right just like Masterpiece Megatron 2.0 and Starscream 3.0. We won't complain about it.
