I ran into one difficulty in removing the corner parking lights/turn signals. The metal clip is inserted into a very thin piece of sheet metal which just plain flexes instead of holding still so that the clip can be removed. My solution was to put tension to the front on the light unit, and reach in with a long screwdriver next to where the clip goes through the slot. A sharp rap on the end of the screw driver managed to pop the pieces apart. This car has been garaged all its life and only has 45000 miles. So the lenses on all are still clear. But the headlights picked up moisture and were condensing inside. So I removed them to dry them out.
We haven't received any complaints that this has been happening. What we do recommend is that, if you do buy them and if they come with bulbs installed, replace them with a decent set of bulbs. The factory sometimes leaves the test bulbs that they used to quality test the lights in them. Hope this helps you out.
Thanks for these GM U-Body van videos! I ordered a 1A Auto headlights and parking lights set and they fit and look great on my 2002 Oldsmobile Silhouette. Additional information videos on these would be helpful as they continue to be a great useful cheap van.
Thank much for the helpful video. I knew how to work on 50s cars, but I find lining up all the plastic and sheetmetal parts of modern cars a real challenge. I've got Low and High beams again!
love your videos..great help. Saves a lot of money. Also great marketing. I absolutely buy parts from the person who shows me how to make the repair. That's the least I can do for some one who saves me from paying some one else.
+monmixer Thanks for watching, and thank you for your order. If you would like to leave us a review on Google it would be greatly appreciated www.resellerratings.com/store/1A_Auto_Parts
@brothamickell We'll keep this in mind during any future repairs that we make on this type of a vehicle. Replied to your email with some tips that should help you out. Hope this helps.
The wing nuts can be gotten off by spraying them with some JB Buster spray. I lived first in Cleveland and now in Chicago. As you said, northern winters stink on nuts and bolts. Thanks for the suggested replacement.
Instead of trashing the wings on the thumb screws with pliers as the publisher mentioned @ 5:00, use a T27 and E5 Torx bit and socket to remove stubborn fasteners.
@admiralwil Here's a link to them on our website. There would be a ship charge to Canada. The site can calculate that for you. 1aauto.com/1A/HeadLights/Chevy/Venture/-/-/1997
I loved this video... how much do the replacement outer lights cost? I live in Montreal Canada and thought that just replacing the inner light with GE Nighthawk Platinum's would make the difference, but obviously the clearer plastic is why I didn't get the results I was hoping for on my mom's Van.
Great video, helped me a lot. I have a question which is not so related but it is about chevy venture as well. I can't find VIN number anywhere on the body (I don't mean the label on the window). Do you know where is it stamped? Thank you.
@ 1aauto as gunnerduke said below, i have a leaking headlight problem where water collects in the bottom of the headlight and slowly empties out, but leaves deposits and distorts the lens. do you know if your aftermarket headlight has this problem as well or is it leak free? Thanks, these videos are so helpful.
just an fyi on this headlight.. I talked to many other owners and they had the same baffling problem....water getting in the headlight and blowing bulbs at an alarming rate. I resorted to drilling a tiny hole in the bottom of the headlight right where the seam was. I have had NO MORE bulbs blow. There were no cracks or deviations in the light before and the bulb was in correctly. we would go through many bulbs and always kept some in the glove box. NO MORE!
I'm coming across the same exact problem. (probably why the bulb is burned out to begin with) How large of a hole or what type of bit did you use to get the water to drain? Where exactly on the seam did you place the hole? Has anybody tried plumber's putty to seal the leaks (wherever the water is coming from...that is) help! thanks. :)
I need to do this exact same thing since my wife hit something and now the driver headlight and corner light wobble. Great video, but one question... when you finished the job I noticed a much wider gap underneath the headlight you installed. Is that because it's not an exact stock replacement?
+Chippathingy That is correct. Aftermarket companies are not allowed to make a 100 percent replica of the OEM parts due to patent issues from the automotive manufacturer.
We are having a difficult time trying to get my parking light to line up with the headlight because the plate that the two prongs on the parking light push into is completely rusted and broken is there a way to fix that or am I just gonna have to McGuyver it?
wow.rust states.(could also been the fact the lights that were there before were pulled straight out, leaving behind piecies of the old plastic cover) The clamp on the bottom of the lights wouldn't disengage whe I tried pulling the light out.
