This video inspired me to try out a storm-based dexterity build of my own today for pvp and the Zamor Curved Sword actually became my favorite weapon to use with it because its unique ash of war also gets buffed by the divine beast helm and the enraged divine beast talisman. Since it’s a magic damage ash of war you can also buff it with the spellblade armor set and the magic shrouding crystal tear. All that extra damage combined with the basically instant frostbite proc can oneshot people quite easily. Great video!
Beat the harder half of the DLC with this exact setup. Really cool aesthetic, great utility. Swapped onto Storm Blade trying to get a good ranged option against Bayle and fell in love with how much a single one of those things does when you whip them at his head. Chunked that lizard's whole life away the very next attempt.
Love this build and all your other ones as well. I ended up trying this out with a character that has 54 str and 25 faith. I made the great katana heavy instead of keen and I'm two-handing it. I'm getting pretty good damage out of it even though it falls short of your optimized dex build. You also really opened my eyes to having weapons equipped with good passives while two handing something else. It's all so cool!
As usual great video!! I completely fell in love with the great katana, being a powerful great sword, lighter that regular greatswords with superb moveset, infusable and with innate bleed! What else can you ask of it? Same for Storm Caller AoW, but the only difference in my player characters is that I made extensive use for testing of the new stance AoW with the great katana and then for stance breaking + flurries the GreatStars with Storm Caller. I´ll try your setup soon!
3:29 how do you get the keen infusion on the great katana? It seems I can only select Quality infusion Nvm I was dumb and never picked up the iron whetblade
I was bored of elden ring and hadn't finished the DLC, not killing all the bosses and getting too frustrated at consort radahn. Today I finally tried this build and I'm having much fun! I will surely try some other builds you made like the dryleaf arts/draconic incantations or the Rugalea ravager with the savage claws.
I see. I like to keep the builds all spoiler free so people can do the bosses themselves. I can't undo the scadu levels to match relevant boss levels :\
Hey Chrightt, I think the answer is no but I might be missing something…… is there any disadvantage with running this exact build with the heavy infusion vs dex? ( to be able to invest less stats in str but take advantage of 2h multiplier)
I used to use storm caller on Great Stars before the DLC, it's still a great option as you get the healing effect from the storm hits too I beleave, and of course the poise damage is way higher.
After trying out this build, one thing i've noticed is that i always prefer to two hand the great katana since the moveset is just so much better than the slow one handed moveset. Because of this i never get to use storm blade on the sgcs because switching to it is just way too finnicky, not to mention switching to your offhand will get rid of your mainhand weapon buff, forcing you to slowly reapply the buff during the heat of battle. One potential work around is to switch the great katana to the offhand and two hand that. By doing so i will still be mainly using the two handed moveset of the great katana, switching to the sgcs aow only requires one input and using the aow on the main hand doesn't get rid of the offhand weapon buff. However, Fromsoft in their infinite wisdom doesn't allow you to buff your offhand weapon with catalysts (that's why DS2 will forever be the best). But since this build only cares for the additional bleed from bloodflame blade and not the fire dmg, i've decided to compromise with greases to allow for more versatility and a better overall gameplan.
I probably would try to dive into the arcane aspect of this build (also add a little more faith) just so I can use the dragon Communion seal and run divine beast tornado. I would also implement heal from afar as an alternative to flasks. I definitely like stormcallar on a Great Katana
Running a similar build but with Cold infusion on the Great Katana with quality 50/50 in Str/Dex (and 20 Int for my purpose) allowing a better DPS versus a classic 50/50 Dex/Int hybrid build. Adding a Milicent Prosthesis in the equation is also great.
Can i reqeust an optimized multi magma caster? (Magma sorceries and magma incants with bayles tyrany if possible and with magma weapons if possible dragon communion seal and albernauric staff would work great i feel)
This would be really interesting. I've got 1.5k hours in this game and have only seen like maybe 2 or 3 guys running magma mage themed builds. Magma shot on a dedicated build is super underrated I feel.
Stormcaller was one of my go to skills in the base game and works so well on the Great Katana. Since the DLC though, I generally prefer Rakshasa’s Great Katana skill, Weed Cutter. The s are the biggest reason and it has incredible range and efficiency. I generally prefer the moveset over the Great Katana too.
I love this! Any options for a strength alternative... I just don't like Katanas,I know I'm one of the few, and I'm trying to stay away from great stars as well since I've used it in 2 play throughs, was thinking lightning armament and excectioner axe, then having the death knight axes to swap around with for variety
Ayy this is similar to my main build although I lean more into faith for healing and lightning incants. I also wear heavier armor (veteran's set) so I can better utilize the hardness buff of dragonbolt blessing and I have an offhand sacrificial axe with prayerful strike for FP regen and more healing. The core of shard+enraged divine beast is so powerful.
Could you do an optimized Magma sorcery build? The Gelmir staff got buffed, and the dread talisman seems like it would work well to make up for the lack of scaling on it.
I did the same build thr other day, i looked into flamberge and GK as well. Same talismans except dragonGS i used crimson+3 to save 9 levels. In place of blood exultation i added on erdtree+2 to save 6 more lvls and gained stamina since i got curious and ran a 51(+3)/77(+3) str/dex. I looked into the storm stuff and its quality based and 1 handed GK has 1 more ar than keen on same stats... two handed its great tho. Zamor CS is also utilized since its quality. Bloodhounds fang gets so much dmg i almost got tempted to switch sum stuff up and include it as a different setup but i didnt. I like the idea of being able to use whatever with twohanded 54 80 setup rl150 btw its weird i dont remember the details its all on paper for now.
STR (up to 20, earliest part of the curve) has more value than DEX when DEX hits 60. Flamberge (and most weapons that scale better with DEX) have a hidden penalty to bullet scaling with DEX so for example keen claymore will always do more damage with storm blade than a keen flamberge- idk if great katana or any of the DLC weapons have this penalty, but notably guardian swordspear and urumi don't have this penalty on bullets (but their kind of insane AR scaling makes it a waste to use bullet weapon arts on them anyway).
I did a quick run to the DLC (Level 88), and finally got the good helm a few days ago. I used the fun-house mirror helm for the early parts of the game. It looks goofy, but helped with stats, and the boost is nice. The only bummer with the Great Katana is smaller enemies. You have to watch out that you don't miss on some of the higher swings and stabs. Thanks for the build!
Any concerns with poise using Stormcaller in PVE? It does have some hyper armor but I'd still be a little concerned about being knocked out of the animation especially against bosses.
Chrightt the game have a bug when you infuse whit a element damage a weapon how have already elemental damage whit a different element, the original elemental damage is erase. 1 exemple is when you infuse a fire knight greatsword whit magic or sacred the weapon lost the fire damage (you can test on explosive barrels). Chrightt I found out you can parry some of your own spells(like stars of ruin) with the carian retaliation aow or spell. This works very well if it’s a shield paired with the carian sorcery sword(the thrusting move set gives you shield pokes, and you can parry regular attacks + your own spells). Or just a maxed out staff with both a parryable spell and the carian retaliation spell after also works well. Can I have your thoughts on a build like this?
Carian Retaliation is not particularly powerful as a spammable because you need to wait for the blades to fire off + low stance damage. I did a build like that before on Golden Retaliation which I think is much better. ruclips.net/video/GYfg2XfIzSo/видео.html
