    I'm by no means an electrician but for yall picking on this guy about not turning the power off, just flipping the switch, it might be a 3 way. Well if you read the description it says Standard. Standard means just a regular standard flip one switch light. Don't give him a hard time. It was a great video for me, and I hope to see more.

    HI IAN - ( i'm from Australia) know it was 8 years ago - and you've come along way since - but i found your video clear and simple to follow ... so WHAT MORE CAN YOU WANT FROM AN EXPLANATION VIDEO ? From me YOU get 100%. I can see you're an EXCELLENT young man AND you don't need to 'internalize' crap that someone else is carrying inside them. Hope your life is going well, cheers

    I ordered a ballast from amazon. When I opened it I saw that it had different color wires than the ballast that I was replacing. My first reaction was to send it back but I would lose money on doing that. After making sure it was the same type of ballast as I was replacing I just spliced the wires together. It worked. Thanks for this video it helped. I hope my comment helps someone else.

    To be clear, a switch is NOT a disconnect and will not guarantee that the power is off. Save yourself getting shocked and turn off the breaker.

    • @sirtimatbob
      @sirtimatbob 7 лет назад

      Apparently there are 3 way switches that can result in power still going to the wires. If one of them touches the metal housing, you could get shocked. Kill the breaker.

    Here, changing the ballast was basically common sense, first unwire then wire the same way. What caught my attention is, how was the whole thing was disconnected from the roof ? how do you connect the whole thing back onto the ceiling. This left me more anxious that other videos, plus the baseball cap needs to go.

    Some houses have the Neutral running through the switch, meaning you run HOT straight to the light box.

    I need a step by step video showing me how to install two T12 baldy for a four light fixture. I don't want to change then to T8i want to keep them at T12, can you help?

    • @ShaunPuzon
      @ShaunPuzon 9 лет назад

      T12 lamps and ballasts are being phased out. You'd probably be hard pressed to find a replacement T12 ballast.

    • @omaracevedo4784
      @omaracevedo4784 9 лет назад

      I hear ya, the company I work for has T12 and I don't think they are interested in changing to T8 at this time but thanks

    • @nicksfans

      You can get a T12 ballast anywhere. They are still being made, as are the lamps.

    Interesting tips but you ignored the most important part of the process, the wiring. I had to change a pair of ballasts for a four bulb setup like yours. I bought a single four-bulb ballast so the wiring was a lot different, and I had to improvise as I was only working with the new ballast and the old wires. I managed to make it work on the first try and it was a hell of a learning experience, I was really proud.
    Thanks especially for the grounding tip, I sanded the ballast housing like you did and I'm sure I would have had problems if I hadn't.

    • @luckyvet

      Mario You changed a balast via improvisation and were proud of yourself. Jesus Christ if my life was so simple. Godspeed man.

    Is there any kind of residual power in the ballast even if the power is off?

    You should cut the wires short and make the splices neater instead of having the wires all bunched up. Just a neater job. Other than that. Great job.

  • @amit27491
    @amit27491 8 лет назад

    It says the ballast must be grounded via the metal frame.
    What if it isn't grounded ?
    What are the problems that might arise due to it ?

    most dummies and electricians keep saying on youtub,... 'you dummy make sure the power is off' ... that's so tyrannical. That's up to the person doing the work. Don't drink and drive. Wash your hands before you eat. C'mon a-holes... rate the other part, not that 1 single issue. I been in AA for 10 years... I know tons of people that drink. I have nothing but good things to say about them even though personally I hate drinking and don't ever do it!!

    yikes...do not follow the advice that it is sufficient to just turn off the switch..if the light is not working you may be confused as to which way is on...also do not ever assume that the fixture was correctly installed to begin with.ALWAYS turn off the circuit at the fuse or breaker box and test the incoming black and white wires to the ballast with a non contact circuit tester before proceeding to disconnect any connectors....a non contact tester can be bought for a couple bucks.SAFETY FIRST!
